Definitions
- Yarn packages are normally wound on bobbins, tubes, etc., by rotating a spindle on which the bobbin or tube is mounted and by traversing the yarn axially of the spindle in such a way as to build a package of the desired shape and size.
- Winding may be performed with or without concomitant twisting. Winding with twisting is conveniently carried out on to a bobbin or tube, to form a tapered-end type of package, on a ring spindle apparatus; Winding without twisting is conveniently carried out on to a tube, to form a cheese type of package, on a side-winding apparatus.
- Disposal may be on to a waste tube below the bobbin or tube, or into a suction tube and waste collection device.
- any defective slow-down yarn shall be readily separable from the main body of the yarn in the package, as it is not yalways possible to indulge in any yarn stripping activities.
- the main object of this invention is lto provide a yarn package of which the final lengths of yarn are wound clear of the main body of yarn in the package, so as to be readily separated therefrom.
- a yarn package comprises a body of yarn wound in a shaped build on a bobbin or tube, a transfer tail wound at one end of said bobbin or tube clear of the said body of yarn in the shaped build, and a waste receiving device, such as a sleeve or spool removably fitted at the opposite end of said bobbin or tube and clear of said body of yarn, on which waste receiving device are wound the final lengths of yarn comprised in the yarn package.
- such a yarn package can be produced by a winding process which is simple in execution, in that at the completion of winding the main body of yarn in the shaped build the traverse is simply shifted outwardly from said body towards the end of the bobbin or tube to the location of the sleeve or spool, yand the winding apparatus slowed down and brought to a stop whilst the yarn is wound thereon.
- yarn would first be wound over the transfer tail (and over the lower taper of a taperedend package) which is technically undesirable in connection with the subsequent utilization of the package; and in the second instance, the slow-down yarn would first have to be stripped from the main body before utilization of the yarn from the package could be commenced.
- the running end of yarn is kept clear of the transfer tail, and it is at the end of the package from which withdrawal commences.
- a yarn package according to the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing which is an elevation view of the completed package.
- a body of yarn in a shaped build 1 is carried on a cylindrical tube 3, the initial lengths of yarn comprising a transfer tail of spaced helical coils 5, the lowermost one of which is secured by a spot of gum 7.
- a waste receiving device in the form of a removeable sleeve 9 is a detachable lit on tube 3 at the opposite end thereof from that on which the transfer tail 5 is wound. The final lengths of yarn 11 are Wound on said sleeve.
- the waste-receiving device takes the form of a sleeve, such can be made of plastics material, rubber, cardboard or metal; and it will be so shaped as to be a detachable fit to the end of the bobbin or tube.
- the device may be attachable to the end of the bobbin or tube, or to the tip of the spindle; and, when to be used with a ring spindle Wind-up, it should be of a shape and size to keep it clear of the balloon
- the running end of yarn once the waste-receiving device has been removed from the bobbin or tube and the end cut close thereto, is preferably secured in any convenient way to that end of the bobbin or tube, until required for use.
- Yarn pack-ages according to the invention may be, for instance, of the draw-twist variety in which the yarn is drawn and then twisted and wound into a double taper build shape; or they may be of the cheese type, in which the yarn is wound, without twisting, into a cylindrical package with square ends.
- yarn material is immaterial to the invention; but the invention has been found to be most useful for continuous filament-ary yarn of monoflarnents of synthetic polymeric material, as for instance, polyamide, polyester and polypropylene material, and especially for such continuous filamentary yarn when in a bulked or latently-bulked condition following from a crimping proc4 ess havin-g -been carried out thereon, or when in heatrelaxed state.
- synthetic polymeric material as for instance, polyamide, polyester and polypropylene material
- a yarn package comprising a body of yarn wound in a shaped build on a bobbin or tube, a transfer tail wound 4at one end of said bobbin or tube clear of lche said -body of yarn in the shaped build, and wherein the nal lengths of yarn comprised in the yarn package are wound on a waste receiving device removeably tted at the opposite end of said bobbin or turbe lto the end on which the transfer tail is wound.
