It will also be seen that when the contacts 137 are closed, an auxiliary relay 138 is energized to close contacts 140 and thus energize the normally open solenoid 120 to cut off the air to the cylinders. The auxiliary relay 138 is provided because there is likely to be a slight delay in the operation of the air circuit which would be objectionable when jogging the machine. Thus, the solenoid valve is held energized when it is desired to jog the machine.
  • the control circuit 110 further includes the normally closed microswitch 102 arranged to be opened by rocking of the lingers 62 upwardly when a defective carton blank or a blank which adheres to the applying elements is detected. This invention relates to a packaging machine and to control means therefor.
The invention has for an object to provide a novel and improved packaging machine having provision for applying adhesive to carton blanks and which is characterized by control means arranged to automatically remove a carton blank from operative engagement with the adhesive applying elements when the machine is stopped to the end tnat the carton blank will not become stuck to the applying elements during prolonged stoppage of the machine.
The invention has for a further object to provide a novel and improved packaging machine of the character specified wherein provision is made for stopping the machine in the event that a carton blank is inadvertently caused to adhere to the adhesive applying elements during normal operation of the machine or in the event that a deformed carton black is detected at the adhesive applying station.
With these general objects in view and such others as may hereinafter apper, the invention consists in the packaging machine and in the -control means therefor as hereinafter described and particularly defined in the claims at the end of this specification.

In general, the present invention contemplates novel and improved control means for a packaging machine of the type illustrated and described in the commonly assigned copending application to John G. Vergobbi, Ser. No. 359,312, filed Apr. 13, 1964, for Apparatus for Producing a Lined Carton, to which reference may be had. Such machine is known in the trade as a double package maker, and in operation, a flat prescored carton blank it withdrawn from a supply thereof and transferred to a continuously moving conveyor which transports the carton blank into operative relation to an adhesive applying station. Thereafter, provision is made for combining a lining sheet with the carton blank prior to a carton forming operation. In another embodiment of such machines a lining sheet is first Wrapped about a forming block to form a lining bag and thereafter the carton blank is wrapped about the lining bag to form a lined carton.
The adhesive applying mechanism illustrated in said copending application includes rotary adhesive applying elements for applying adhesive to selected portions of a carton blank during the continuous movement of the carton blank along the conveyor. One of the difficulties encountered in the operation of such adhesive applying mechanism was that when the machine was stopped for any reason, a cart-on blank remaining in engagement with the adhesive applying element for a short time would rbe caused to adhere to the elements by setting of the adhesive. As a result thereof, when the machine was again started the carton blank would follow around with the rotary elements and cause a jam. The machine then had to be stopped to remove the carton blank and to clean the adhesive applying elements.
In accordance with the present invention, provision is made for automatically moving a carton backing roll away from pressing engagement with the carton blank and for simultaneously moving the carton blank away from the applying elements at the adhesive applying station when the machine comes to rest whereby to avoid adherence of the blank to the applying elements and thus preclude jamming of the carton upon subsequent starting of the machine. Procision is further made for automatically stopping the machine if during the normal operation of the machine a carton blank is inadvertently caused to follow around with the applying elements, or in the event that a defective carton blank is detected at the adhesive applying station, such as one having a curled up end or flap portion which might tend to follow around with the rotary adhesive applying elements.
Referring now to the drawings, the present invention is shown as embodied in a packaging machine, only a sufiicient portion of the machine being herein shown so as to enable the invention to be understood. The construction and mode of operation of the machine, except as hereinafter pointed out, may comprise that disclosed in the copending application to lohn G. Vergobbi Ser. No. 359,312, now Patent No. 3,322,943, issued May 30, 1967, to which reference may be made. It is believed suicient to state that in the operation of such packaging machine flat prescored carton blanks are transferred from a supply thereof onto a continuously moving conveyor and are advanced into operative relation to an adhesive applying station which includes rotary adhesive applying elements for applying adhesive to selected portions of successive carton blanks. Provision is then made for combining a lining sheet with the carton blank. The carton blanks with their attached lining sheets are then advanced into operative relation to successive intermittently moving forming blocks about which the composite carton blanks and lining sheets are folded to form a rectangular carton. The completed lined carton is then stripped from its forming block and transferred -to a conveyor to be delivered into a succeeding machine, such as a filling or weighing machine in the packaging line.
As herein illustrated, the prescored carton blanks 10 are continuously advanced in predetermined spaced relaof the chains are supported by tracks 20, and the chains' B are continuously driven during the operation of the machine.
The continuously advancing carton blank is provided with adhesive at selectedareas thereof, as shown, by adhesive applying mechanism which includes rotary segmental applying elements 22 mounted for rotation with a shaft 24. The shaft 24 is continuously driven in timed relation to the movement of the conveyer chains 14, and the at carton blanks are spaced on the conveyer 12 so that the applying elements 22 will register with the lo selected areas of the carton blank to be provided with adhesive during the continuous movement thereof. The rotary segmental adhesive applying elements 22 are provided with a coating of adhesive by a glue transfer roll 26 which cooperates with a spreader roll 28. As diagrammatically indicated, liquid `adhesive is supplied from a nozzle 30 which drops the adhesive between the transfer roll 26 and spreader roll 28. The nozzle 30 may be connected by a pipe 31 to a pump, not shown, connectedv to a supply tank 35, and surplus adhesive may be collected and returned to the supply tank by a pan 37 and a funnel 391 leading to the supply tank 35 to be recirculated.
The rotary segmental applying elements 22 are arranged in the path of an oncoming carton blank 10 to apply adhesive to the upper face of the blank, and in order to provide suicient pressure againstthe underside of the blank during the applying operation, a cam operated backing roll 32 is provided to cooperate with the rotary applying segments 22. The backing roll 32 is mounted on a shaft 34 carried by arms 36 fast on a shaft 38 journaled in suitable bearings in the machine frame. The backing roll 32 is rocked upwardly into pressing engagement with the underside of the carton blank 10 during the adhesive applying operation by a spring 40 connected to a depending arm 42 also fast on the shaft 38. The movement of the arm 42 is limited by an adjustable stop 44 for cooperation with the end of the arm as shown. The backing roll shaft 34 is also provided with a cam roll 46 of the same diameter as the backing roll and which cooperates with a cam 48 fast on the shaft 24. In operation, the
backing roll 32 is held down out of operative engagement` with the applying segments 22 by the cam 48 until such time as a carton blank 10 is advanced into operative posi tion to receive the adhesive. The carton blank is advanced on the conveyer 12 in timed relation to the rotation of the segmental applying elements 22, and when the carton blank arrives in operative relation thereto, the backing roll 32 is rocked upwardly by the spring 40 to press the blank against the segmental elements to effect application of the adhesive.
In accordance with the present invention, provision is made for automatically rocking the backing roll 32 downwardly away from the carton blank 1t) when the machine comes to rest and for simultaneously pressing the carton blank downwardly away from the adhesive applying segments whereby to prevent adherence of the carton blank to the segments in the event that the machine is stopped a suicient length of time to eiect setting of the adhesive. In the illustrated embodiment of the invention this is accomplished pneumatically independently of the cam 48 by air cylinders provided with plungers arranged to be extended when the machine cornes to rest. As herein shown, an elongated arm 50 provided atlits upper end with a stud 51 is fast on the shaft 38 and is arranged to cooperate with the plunger 52 of an air cylinder 54 adjustably supported in the upper face of an angle plate 56 attached to a frame bracket 58 secured to and upstanding from a side frame 60 of the machine. In operation, when the machine comes to rest, the air cylinder 54 is actuated in a manner to be described to admit compressed air which extends the plunger 52 to engage the head 0f the stud 51 carried by the arm 50. The arm 50 is thus rocked in a clockwise direction to rock the backing roll 32 downwardly out of engagement with the underside of the carton blank independently of the cam 48 and against the tension of the spring 46. It will be observed that the spring 40 is arranged to urge the arm 50 in a counterclockwise direction.
The mechanism for pressing the carton blank 10 down- 5 wardly away from the adhesive applying segments 22 to prevent adherence of the carton blank thereto when the machine is stopped includes a plurality of forwardly extended carton blank depressing lingers 62 fast on a pivot shaft 64 supported in the upper ends of spaced bracketsv 66. The pivot shaft 64 is detachably supported in slotted t openings 63 formed in the brackets 66 and is retained in the slots by retaining clips 7() which extend across the open ends of the slots and are held in assembled relation by thumb screws 72 carried by the brackets 66.v In practice, loosening of the thumb screws 72 permits rotation of the clips 76 out of the path of the slots 68 to allow the pivot shaft 64 to be removed.
The lower ends of the spaced brackets 66 are adjustably clamped fast on a stationary supporting shaft 74 carried 2,0 by the frame bracket 5S. The blank depressing iingers-62 are extended above a carton blank 10 at the adhesive applying station and are curved, as shown, so that the intermediate portions of the fingers are generally concentric with the curvature of the rotary path of the adhesive applying elements 22. The fingers 62 are connected together to move as a unit by a transversely extended rod 76 as shown. Rearwardly extended portions 78 of the ngers 62 are likewise connected together at their outer ends by a tubular rod 8l).
Also fast on the pivot shaft 64 is a rearwardly extended control arm 82 which is provided with an opening 84 for receiving an extended end of the tubular rod 80 carried by the rearwardly extended portions 78 ofthe lingers 62 to move therewith. The weight of the fingers 62 tend to rock them downwardly toward the carton blank, and in order to normally hold the ngers in a position above the carton blank, a spring pressed plunger 86 is arranged to `cooperate with the head 88 of a stud carried by the upper face of the control arm 82 to resiliently restrain the downward movement of the fingers. The plunger 86 is supported by an angle bracket 90 mounted on the depending leg 92 of the angle plate 56 and is provided with a hand knob 94 as shown. A second air cylinder 95 having a plunger 96 is supported by an angle bracket 97 adjustably secured to the depending leg 92. The plunger 96 is arranged to engage the head 98 of a stud carried by the underside of the control arm S2.
The fingers `62 extend over areas of the carton blank 10 which are out of the path of the adhesive applying elements, and in operation, when the machine comes to rest,
the air cylinder 95 is actuated in a manner to be described to admit compressed air which extends kthe plunger 96 to engage the head 98 of the stud on the underside of the control arm 82 and rock the arm upwardly against the pressure of the spring pressed plunger S6. The blank depressing ngers 62 `are thus rocked downwardly against the carton blank 10 to hold it away from engagement with the rotary adhesive applying elements 22. It will be observed that the carton supporting table 18 and the chain supporting tracks 20 are discontinued for a short distance at the adhesive applying station to allow ample clearance for lowering the carton blank below the point of contact with the adhesive applying elements.
In accordance with another feature of the present invention, provision is made for detecting a defective carton blank at the adhesive applying station or for detecting a carton blank which may -be inadvertently adhered to and carried around with the applying elements at the adhesive applying station during normal operation of the machine. As herein shown, it will be observed that the free ends 160 of the carton blank depressing fingers 62 in their normal position, as shown in FIG. 1, extend a short distance beyond the circumference of the rotary path of the applying elements 22 and at a point above the normal line of movement of the carton blanks 16 being advanced by the chains 14. In operation, when the leading end of a carton blank inadvertently adheres to the applying elements so as to follow around therewith, as shown in FIG. 4, the blank will engage the free ends 100 of the lingers 62 and rock them upwardly in a counterclockwise direction. Likewise, a defective carton blank having a curled up leading end or a carton in which the leading end closing aps are bent up to an extent such as to engage the free ends 100 of the fingers, the latter will also be rocked upwardly in a counterclockwise direction. When this occurs the rearwardly directed control arm 82, which is movable with the lingers 62, will be rocked downwardly, and the outer end of the arm 82 will engage and open a normally closed microswitch 192. The microswitch is supported by an angle bracket 104 also attached to the depending leg 92 of the angle plate 56. The microswitch forms a part of the control circuit to discontinue operation of the driving motor of the machine so that the defective or adhering carton blank may be removed before again starting the machine.
Referring now to FIG. showing the wiring diagram embodying the present control means, the numeral 106 represents the motor circuit having a drive motor S, and the numeral 110 represents the control circuit provided with a motor starter solenoid 112 which when energized by pressing a start button 114 Will close the motor contacts 116 in the motor circuit to start the machine, the motor starter solenoid remaining energized by the holding contacts 113.
The control circuit 110 also includes a solenoid air valve 120 having an inlet pipe 122 connected to a regulated source of compressed air and an outlet pipe 124 connected to the air cylinders 54, 95. The solenoid air valve 120 is normally open and is closed when energized. Thus, during normal operation, the solenoid air valve is energized by a control relay 126 which closes contacts 128 upon starting of the drive motor. Conversely, when t-he stop button 130 is pressed, or if a safety switch 102 is opened to deenergize the motor starter solenoid 112 and thus open the contacts 118, the control relay 126 is deenergized. This will open` the contacts 128 to deenergize the normally open solenoid valve 120 and release the air to the cylinders 54, 95. As a result, the backing roll 32 lwill be rocked away from the carton blank 10 at the adhesive applying station and, simultaneously therewith, the depressing lingers 62 will be rocked down to move the carton blank away from engagement with the adhesive applying elements as described.
Switch 136 comprises a manually operated selector switch which may be set in any of three positions. The run7 position shown closes the circuit through the upper contacts and is used for normal running. If the switch 136 is turned to the safe or intermediate position, the motor control circuit is open and the machine cannot be started. When it is desired to jog the machine, the switch 136 is turned to close the lowermost contacts 137 of the switch.,
The jog button 134 may then be pressed to close the circuit to the motor starter solenoid 112 and, simultaneously therewith, the lower contacts 13S will be opened to prevent the holding contacts 118 from being closed at this time. It will also be seen that when the contacts 137 are closed, an auxiliary relay 138 is energized to close contacts 140 and thus energize the normally open solenoid 120 to cut off the air to the cylinders. The auxiliary relay 138 is provided because there is likely to be a slight delay in the operation of the air circuit which would be objectionable when jogging the machine. Thus, the solenoid valve is held energized when it is desired to jog the machine.
The control circuit 110 further includes the normally closed microswitch 102 arranged to be opened by rocking of the lingers 62 upwardly when a defective carton blank or a blank which adheres to the applying elements is detected. Opening of the switch 102 will deenergize the motor solenoid 112 to stop the motor and bring the machine to rest. FIG; 4 illustrates a carton blank in engagement with the ends of the fingers 78 immediately prior to effecting opening of the microswitch 102, and immediately thereafter the switch will be opened to deenergize the motor solenoid 112 to stop the motor and to effect rocking of the backing roll away from the carton blank and to depress the carton blank away from the applying elements as described.
It Will be understood that the switch 102 designated on the drawing as SAFETIES is typical of any of the safeties shown and described in the copending application Ser.
No. 359,312, above referred to, so that when operation of the machine is discontinued for any reason by opening of the circuit to the motor solenoid 112, the air cylinders 54 and 9S will be actuated to remove the carton blank out of contact with the applying elements.
From the above description, it will be seen that the present packaging machine is provided with novel control means arranged to automatically move a carton blank out of operative engagement with the adhesive applying mechanism when the machine is stopped to prevent adherence of the blank to the adhesive applying elements during prolonged stoppage of the machine. It will also be seen that provision is made for stopping the machine when a defective carton blank is detected at the adhesive applying station.
While the preferred embodiment of the invention has been herein illustrated and described, it will be understood that the invention may be embodied in other forms within the scope of the following claims.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
1. In a packaging machine of the character described, in combination, adhesive applying mechanism including rotary adhesive applying elements, means for advancing a carton blank into operative relation to said applying mechanism, normally inoperative means associated with said rotary elements for moving the carton blank out of operative relation to said rotary elements, and means responsive to stopping of the machine for actuating said normally inoperative means to move the carton blank out of operative relation to the applying mechanism whereby to prevent adherence of the blank to the same during prolonged stoppage of the machine.

In a packaging machine of the character described, in combination, adhesive applying mechanism including rotary adhesive applying elements, means for continuously advancing iiat prescored carton blanks into operative relation to said adhesive applying elements to receive adhesive on selected portions of the blanks, a plurality of pivotally mounted lingers normally disposed above and out of engagement with a carton blank at the applying mechanism, and drive means including an electrical circuit having control means for maintaining said lingers in their inoperative position, said control meansbeing responsive to stopping of the machine for rocking said fingers against ly advancing carton blanks into operative relation to said adhesive applying elements, a backing roll arranged .to press the continuously moving blank into engagement w1th said applying elements, and drive means having provision for controlling said backing roll including means responsive to stopping of the machine for moving said backing roll out of pressing engagement with a carton blank at the adhesive applying station.
5. In a packaging machine of the character described, in combination, adhesive applying mechanism including rotary adhesive applying elements, means for continuously `advancing carton blanks into operative relation to said applying mechanism, a backing roll arranged to press the continuously moving blank into engagement with Said applying elements, drive means including an electrical circuit having provision for controlling said backing roll including means responsive to stopping of the machine for moving said roll out of pressing engagement with a carton blank, normally inoperative means for engaging a carton blank at the adhesive applying station, said control means being also responsive to stopping of the machine for moving the carton blank out of operative relation to said rotary adhesive applying elements.
6. In a packaging machine of the character described, in combination, adhesive applying mechanism including rotary adhesive applying elements, means for continuously advancing successive flat carton blanks in spaced relation into operative relation to said adhesive applying elements, a cam operated backing roll arranged to press the continuouslymoving blanks into engagement with said applying elements, a cam for operating said roll to hold the roll out of pressing engagement during the interval between spaced blanks at the adhesive applying mechanism, and drive means including an electrical circuit having provision for controlling said backing roll, said control means being responsive to stopping of the machine for moving said roll out of pressing engagement with a carton blank independently of said cam.
7. In a packaging machine of the character described, in combination, an adhesive applying station including rotary adhesive applying elements, means for continuously advancing flat carton blanks into operative relation to said adhesive applying elements, a backing roll arranged to press successive continuously moving blanks into engagement with said applying elements, a plurality of fingers normally disposed out of engagement with the carton blank at the applying station,-and drive means including an electrical circuit having provision for controlling said backing roll and said fingers, said control means being responsive to stopping of the machine for moving said roll away from pressing engagement with the carton blank and for simultaneously `moving said fingers against the blank toremove the blank from operative -engagement with said adhesive applying elements.
8. In a packaging machine of the character described, in combination, an adhesive applying kstation including rotary adhesive applying elements, means for advancing successive carton blanks into operative relationto said applying elements, a plurality of pivotally mounted fingers normally arranged above a carton blank at the adhesive applying station, the free ends of said iingers being eX- tended beyond the path of rotary movement of said elements to be engaged and rocked upwardly by an adhering or defective carton blank, and means for driving the machine including an electrical circuit having means for controlling the movement of said lingers, said` last named i means including a switch in said circuit responsive to said upward rocking of the fingers for stopping the machine.
9. In a packaging machine of the character described,
in combination, an adhesive applying station including rotary adhesive applying elements, means for advancing successive carton blanks into operative relation to said applying elements, a plurality of pivotally mounted fingers normally arranged above a carton blank at the adhesive applying station, the free ends of said fingers being extended beyond the path of rotary movement of said elements to be engaged and rocked upwardly by an adhering or defective carton blank, an electrical` circuit having a normally closed switch, means responsive to said upward rocking of the fingers to open the switch and stop the machine, and normally inoperative means rendered operative upon opening the circuit for rocking said fingers downwardly against the carton blank to move the latter out of operative relation to said applying elements.

In a packaging machine of the character described, in combination, adhesive applying mechanism including rotary adhesive elements, means for advancing a carton blank into operative relation to the applying mechanism, an electrical circuit including a drive motor for driving the machine, and normally inoperative means responsive to opening of the circuit to said motor for moving the carton blank out of operative relation to the applying mechanism whereby to prevent adherence of the blank to the same during prolonged stoppage of the machine.
11. In a packaging machine of the character described, in combination, adhesive applying mechanism including rotary adhesive applying elements, means for advancing a carton blank into operative relation to the applying mechanism to receive adhesive, means for pushing the blank out of adhesive receiving engagement with said applying elements, an electrical circuit including a drive motor for driving a machine, a control circuit for said motor, means responsive to opening of the control circuit to stop the lmotor and discontinue operation of the machine, and
ing mechanism whereby to prevent adherence of the carton blank to the same during prolonged stoppage of the machine.
12. A packaging machine as defined in claim 11 wherein the means for moving the carton blank out of operative relation to the applying mechanism is pneumatically operated.
13. In a packaging machine of the character described, in combination, adhesive applying mechanism including rotary adhesive applying` elements, means for advancing a carton blank into operative relation to said applying mechanism to receive adhesive, an electrical circuit including a drive motor for driving the machine, a control circuit for said motor, a plurality of pivotally mounted fingers extended above the carton blank at the adhesive applying mechanism, means responsive to opening of the control circuit for stopping the motor to discontinue operation of the machine, and normally inoperative means actuated by said control circuit and responsive to stopping the machine for rocking said fingers downwardly against the carton blank to move the latter out of operative relation to said applying mechanism.
14. In a packaging machine of the character described, in combination, adhesive applying mechanism including rotary adhesive applying elements, means for continuous-v ly advancing successive carton blanks into operative relation to said applying mechanism, an electrical circuit including a drive motor, a control circuit for said motor, a backing roll arranged to press successive continuously moving blanks into engagement with the adhesive applying mechanism, means responsive to kopening of the control circuit for stopping the motor to discontinue operation of the machine, and normally inoperative means actuated by said control circuit and responsive to stopping the machine for moving said roll away from pressing engagement with the carton blank at the adhesive applying mechanism.
15. In a packaging machine of the character described, in combination, adhesive applying mechanism including rotary adhesive applying elements, means for continuously advancing successive carton blanks into operative relation to said applying mechanism, an electrical circuit including a drive motor for driving the machine, a control circuit for said motor, a backing roll arranged to press successive carton blanks into engagement with the adhesive applying mechanism, a plurality of pivotally mounted fingers extended above the carton blank at the adhesive applying mechanism, means responsive to opening of the control circuit for stopping the motor to discontinue operation of the machine, and normally means inoperative means actuated Iby said control circuit and responsive to stopping the machine for moving said roll away from pressing engagement with the carton blank and for simultaneously rocking said fingers downwardly against the carton blank at the applying mechanism to move the blank out of operative relation to said applying mechanism whereby to prevent adherence of the blank to the applying mechanism during prolonged stoppage of the machine.

A packaging machine as dened in claim. 15 wherein the means for operating said roll and said lingers includes a compressed air circuit having an air cylinder for cooperation with the roll and an air cylinder for cooperation with the fingers, said air circuit having a normally open solenoid valve connected in said control circuit and arranged to be energized to cut ol the air to said cylinders when the machine is running, said solenoid being deenergized when the control circuit is opened to permit opening of the valve and operation of said air cylinders when the machine is stopped.
17. In a packaging machine of the character described, in combination, an adhesive applying station including rotary adhesive applying elements, means for advancing successive carton blanks into operative relation to said applying elements, an electrical circuit including a drive motor for driving the machine, a control circuit for said motor, a plurality of pivotally mounted fingers extended above a carton blank at the adhesive applying station, the free ends of said fingers extended beyond the path of rotary movement of said elements to be engaged and rocked upwardly by an adhering or defective carton blank, a normally closed switch in said control circuit arranged to be opened by upward rocking of said fingers to stop the motor and discontinue operation of the machine, and means actuated by said control circuit and responsive to stopping the machine for rocking said fingers downwardly against the carton blank to move the latter out of operative relation to said applying elements.

A packaging machine as defined in claim 17 wherein the means for rocking said fingers downwardly includes a compressed air circuit having an air cylinder for cooperation with said fingers, said air circuit having a normally open solenoid valve connected in said control circuit and arranged to be energized to cut ol the air to said cylinder when the machine is mnning, said solenoid being deenergized when the control circuit is opened to permit opening of the valve and operation of said air cylinder when the machine is stopped.

Claims (1)

1. IN A PACKAGING MACHINE OF THE CHARACTER DESCRIBED, IN COMBINATION, ADHESIVE APPLYING MECHANISM INCLUDING ROTARY ADHESIVE APPLYING ELEMENTS, MEANS FOR ADVANCING A CARTON BLANK INTO OPERATIVE RELATION TO SAID APPLYING MECHANISM, NORMALLY INOPERATIVE MEANS ASSOCIATED WITH SAID ROTARY ELEMENTS FOR MOVING THE CARTON BLANK OUT OF OPERATIVE RELATION TO SAID ROTARY ELEMENTS, AND MEANS RESPONSIVE TO STOPPING OF THE MACHINE FOR ACTUATING SAID NORMALLY INOPERATIVE MEANS TO MOVE THE CARTON BLANK OUT OF OPERATIVE RELATION TO THE APPLYING MECHANISM WHEREBY TO PREVENT ADHERENCE OF THE BLANK TO THE SAME DURING PROLONGED STOPPAGE OF THE MACHINE.
