GARMENT SHAPING BUST FORM Filed NOV.- 16, 1966 INVENTOR.
IRVING DAVID TISS BY 4M L/W ATTORNEY United States Patent 3,346,149 GARMENT SHAPING BUST FORM Irving David Tiss, Springfield, NJ. (970 Springfield Ave., Irvington, NJ. 07111) Filed Nov. 16, 1966, Ser. No. 594,762 4 Claims. (Cl. 223-66) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention deals with a garment shaping bust form comprising a pair of bust members formed from flat circular discs into cone-like bust configurations and adjustable relative to each other along a mounting strip.
Various bust forms have been proposed for displaying Womens garments attractively or for keeping the garments in shape before use.
Such known bust forms have the disadvantage that they require difficult assembly or custom made construction to fill the requirements for difierence in garment bust variations.
The present invention deals with a garment shaping bust form comprising a pair of fiat substantially circular discs, each resiliently deformable along its axis into a cone-like configuration, each disc having a radial first slot therein extending from its periphery to its axis, one edge of the first slot having a tongue member extending therefrom in the direction of the other edge of the first slot, a key means on the tongue member, a second slot adjacent to the said one edge of the slot, the key means of the tongue member being lockably engageable with the second slot, a pair of substantially diametrically opposed arcuate slots each adjacent the peripheral edge of the disc, and a strip means insertable through the pair of diametrically opposed slots in each of the discs, the discs being slidably adjustable relative to each other along the said strip means, whereby by a simple interlocking motion the discs automatically assume a cone-like form and by simple manipulation are adjustably slidable along the strip relative to each other.
The drawings:
FIGURE 1 illustrates a top view of one of the bust discs according to the invention,
FIGURE 2 illustrates an elevational front view of a pair of assembled bust members mounted on a mounting strip, and
FIGURE 3 illustrates a perspective view of FIGURE 2 showing the cone-like configuration of the bust members.
Summary of the invention Regarding the figures, a circular disc composed, for example, of cardboard, or a resin material, or cellulosic material, capable of being resiliently deformable along its axis into a cone-like configuration is provided with a radial first slot 12 having edges 14 and 16 spaced from each other. The slot extends from the periphery 18 of the disc to the center or axis 20 of the disc. One edge 16 of the slot is provided with a tongue 22 extending therefrom in the direction of the other slot edge 14. The tongue 22 is provided with key means 24, for example, a plurality of projections, extending therefrom along one side thereof intermediate its terminal 26 and the edge 16. Preferably, but not necessarily, the terminal 28 of the slot 12 at the axis 20 is enlarged at the disc axis 20 to facilitate movement of edges 14 and 16 toward each other. A second slot 30 is formed through disc 10 substantially adjacent the slot edge 14, or spaced therefrom in the general direction of the extending tongue 22. Upon movement of slot edges 14 and 16 toward each other, the tongue 26 extending outwardly at edge 16 toward edge 14 moves towards slot 30 and enters slot 30 whereby the key means 24 engages an end 32 of slot 30 in abutment relationship and whereby the key means 24 becomes lockably engaged with the slot 30. In such lockable engagement of the key mean-s 24 of tongue 26 the disc automatically assumes a conical configuration substantially in the form of a female bust. Since the disc 10 is composed of a material resiliently deformable along its axis, the tendency of the cone-like assembled configuration to return to the disc form effectually locks the tongue to retain the cone-like shape by the retaining action of the key means 24.
The disc 10 is further provided with a pair of arcuate slots 34 and 36 diametrically opposed relative to each other and each adjacent a peripheral edge 18 of the disc 10. Each arcuate slot is arcuately shaped to parallel or to curve along the periphery of the disc 10.
In addition to the disc 10, as illustrated by FIGURES 2 and 3, a second similar or identical disc 10 is provided to provide a pair simulating the shape of the female bust as illustrated by FIGURES 2 and 3. Both discs, in their assembled cone-like form, are mounted on a strip 38 with the strip 38 passing through the pair of arcuate slots 34 and 36, of each disc 10 and 10'. The pair of arcuate slots 34 and 36 are dimensional to be frictionally or otherwise slidable along the strip 38 so that the pair of discs 10 and 10 in their cone-like form are adjustably slidable along strip 38 to any degree in conformity with the size of the garment to which the bust form of the invention is applied.
I claim:
1. A garment shaping bust form comprising a pair of substantially circular discs each resiliently deformable along its axis into a cone-like configuration, each disc having a radial first slot therein extending from its periphery to its axis, one edge of the first slot having a tongue member extending therefrom in the direction of the other edge of the first slot, a key means on the tongue member, a second slot spaced from the said other edge in the direction of the extending tongue, the key means of the tongue member being lockably engageable with the second slot, a pair of substantially diametrically opposed slots each adjacent the peripheral edge of the disc, and a strip means insertable through the pair of diametrically opposed slots in each disc, the discs being slidably adjustable relative to each other along the said strip means.
2. A garment shaping bust form according to claim 1, wherein the key means comprises a plurality of projections extending from the tongue member intermediate the end of the tongue member and the said one edge.
3. A garment shaping bust form according to claim 1, wherein the first slot is provided with an enlargement thereof at the disc axis.
4. A garment shaping bust form according to claim 1, wherein the pair of diametrically opposed slots are arcuate slots conforming with the periphery of the disc.
