Description
(No Model.)
R. R. EMERSON.
GHURN MoToR.
No. 334,522. Patented Jan. 19, 1886.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT REECE EMERSON, OF PILOT OAK, KENTUCKY.
CHURN-MOTOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 334,522, dated January 19, 1886.
Application led September 25, 1885. Serial No. 178,202.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ROBERT R. EMERSON, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Pilot Oak, in the county of Graves and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ohurn Motors and Dashers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which forms a part of this specification.
This invention has relation to improvements in churn-motors; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of part-s, as will be hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
The figure of the accompanying drawing represents a perspective view embodying my invention.
Referring to the drawing, the letter A represents the frame of my improved churnmotor, which may be mounted upon wheels, if desired, whereby it can be readily removed from one place to another. At one end of the frame I have arranged the spindle B, provided with a worm-groove, b. Said spindle is mounted in bearings b b2, the latter being removable by means of hooks c c, secured to uprights s s' of the frame. These hooks engage eyes cZd on the bearing b2, for the purpose of disengaging said spindle in case of breakage, or for cleaning the same. VThe spindle is also made hollow at its lower portion, to receive and hold the stem of the dasher C by means of a thumb-nut, e. About or approximating the center of the top crossbars of the frame I journal two rollers, D D', one above the other, one of which, D', is adjustable, as shown, by means of one of the side rails having a removable piece for this purpose, whereby greater power is given to (No model.)
the dasher C aforesaid. At the rear end of the frame I locate a shaft, E, mounted in bearings in the top portion of the frame. This shaft is provided with a master-wheel, F, on one end, and a crank, G, on the other, and at the middle portion thereof I provide another 5o wheel, H, having a groove, h, on its periphery, to receive a belt, t', which passes from said wheel H, and is crossed between the rollers so as to engage the inner surfaces thereof, and from these rollers the said belt is passed to engage the worm b of the spindle, whereby by turning the crank G the machine is set in motion.
The dasher C is composed of a square por# tion, Z, having pins Z', Z2, Z3, and Z4, passing through it at suitable intervals apart, one above the other, and crossing each other in opposite directions. The pins Zl Z3, being on a line with each other, throw the milk upward, while the pins P Z4 force the milk downward, which gives it air and agitates the same thoroughly.
I wish it to be understood that I may use any well-known power to operate my machine.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
The combination of the frame having the shaft provided with wheels H F, the belt i, connected to the Wheel H, and rollers D D', as described, the roller Dl being adjustable by means of a removable piece in one of the side rails of said frame, whereby the connection of said belt with the worm of the spindle B produces a greater revolution of the dasher C, as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ROBERT REEOE EMERSON.
