FIG. 6 1g F 1 T l 1 1 L- 4 L J 5 Sept. 19, 1967 E. R. JOHANSSON COLLAPSIBLE HOUSE 2 Sheets-Sheet Filed July 26, 1965 United States Patent 1 Claim. Eel. 52-70 This invention relates to a collapsible house. The object of the invention is to provide such a :house which is composed of few pairwise identical sections or parts which are easy to manufacture and to mount and in the collapsed condition of the house form a compact structure that can be readily transported.
I attain this object by the arrangement of parts described hereinbelow with reference to the annexed drawings in which- FIG. 1 illustrates one half of the house in collapsed condition, FIGS. 2 and 3 illustrate different steps during the erection of the house, FIG. 4 is an end view of the finally erected house, FIG. 5 is a perspective view of the house with one half thereof in erected position and the other half in partly collapsed position, and FIG. 6 illustrates a suitable construction of the joint between parts articulated to each other.
Referring to the drawings, FIG. 1 illustrates the two halves of the collapsible house according to the invention in collapsed condition with the various parts or sections placed side by side. For the sake of convenience only one of the two identical halves will be described hereinbelow. As viewed from the left to the right in FIG. 1 this half comprises the half 2 of a floor which half at its upper edge 1 is hinged or articulated to an identical floor part 2' in the other half of the collapsed house, and two halves 4 of end walls which at their edges 3 abutting the floor are articulated to the half of the floor at a distance from the end of the floor corresponding to the thickness of the end wall. Located in the same plane as the end wall 4 is a fixed side wall part 6 the height of which corresponds to the thickness of the end wall 4. Articulated to the upper inner edge 7 of the part 6 is an intermediate side wall part 8 which in the collapsed position of the house abuts the end wall parts 4. At its upper longitudinal edge 9 the side wall part 8 is articulated to a longitudinal edge of a third side wall part 10 such that the side wall parts 8 and 10 are disposed side by side in the collapsed position shown in FIG. 1. Finally the half 12 of a roof is articulated to the longitudinal edge 11 of the side wall part 10.
In the position shown in FIG. 2 the two halves 2 and 2 of the floor are turned away from each other and located in a common plane with the hinge 1 therebetween located at the lower end of the joint between the halves 3,341,987 Patented Sept. 19, 1967 2 and 2'. The other parts piled on the halves 2 and 2 of the floor still assume their relative positions shown in FIG. 1.
In FIG. 3 the side wall part 8 has been erected about the hinge 7 between the parts 6 and 8 which means that part of the side wall is in erected position. Further, the half 12 of the roof has been turned about the hinge 11 relative to the uppermost side wall part 10. Thereafter the only step that remains is to rise the halves 4 of the end walls, the uppermost side wall part 10 and the half 12 of the roof in the order named whereupon the parts assume the positions shown in FIG. 4 in which the house is finally erected. Preferably the other half of the house is erected simultaneously with the half described.
FIG. 6 illustrates how the region around the joints may be devised to provide effective seals between the parts.
A house constructed in accordance with the invention is preferably made of sandwich plates so as to be of low weight and easy to mount.
What I claim is:
A collapsible house comprising a floor, two side walls, two end walls and a roof and being divided along the ridge of the roof into two identical halves articulated to each other at a line extending longitudinally midway of the floor, each of said halves including one half of the floor, two end wall parts arranged to be turned downward to the floor and articulated each to one end of said half of the floor, a first side wall part firmly connected to said half of the floor, the height of said wall part being substantially equal to the thickness of the end wall parts, a second side wall part located on said first side wall part and articulated thereto, a third side Wall part located on said second side wall part and articulated thereto, and a half of the roof articulated to said third side wall part, said halves and parts being constructed and arranged to be turned against each other and placed side by side in the collapsed position of the house such that the two halves of the floor are confronting each other centrally of the collapsed house and that each of the halves of the floor is followed in lateral direction by said two end wall parts, said second side wall part, said third side wall part and one half of the roof, all in the order named.
