Definitions
- This invention relates to a device for mooring boats and similar vessels.
- a device which comprises a jetty or foot-bridge which is attached to pilings and which is oatingly supported by transverse members or floats between which the vessels may be moored.
- the floats may be perpendicularly disposed with respect to the jetty or they may be positioned obliquely with respect to the jetty.
- the iloats may extend out from either side of the jetty or both sides of the jetty.
- the oats may be variably spaced from one another and in this manner the mooring device can be adapted to the quantity and width of vessels to be moored.
- the floats may also extend further out one side of the jetty than the other side. In this manner vessels of varying length may be accommodated.
- the floats themselves are of approximately semi-circular shape being at and rigid on the top and circular on the bottom. Thus, in the event that the Water freezes the oats will be forced upwardly by virtue of such configuration.
- FIG. 1 shows a view in perspective of the mooring device.
- FIG. 2 shows a plan yview of the device with the floats disposed perpendicular to the jetty.
- FIG. 3 shows a plan View of the mooring device with the floats disposed obliquely to the jetty.
- FIG. 4 shows a cross-section of the oat taken along line 44 of FIG. l.
- Jetty 1 is shown supported by floats 2 which in turn float on the surface of the water.
- Jetty 1 is provided With shackle 3 which engages pile 4 and ties the jetty thereto. The shackle 3 loosely engages pile 4 so that the jetty may rise or fall with the water level.
- Boats 5 may be moored along floats 2 and to jetty 1.
- Jetty 1 is comprised of planks v6 ⁇ 'which rest on channel members or U-beams 7 to form a walking surface.
- U-beams 7 are provided with holes 8 situated at reguluar intervals.
- Shackles 9 which may be attached to the U-beams 7 through holes 8 by any conventional means secure floats 2 to the jetty 1. Holes 8 may also be used as points of attachment in mooring vessels to the jetty.
- the lloats 2 are spaced at varying distances from one another, e.g., a and b in FIG. 2.
- the eXtensions of the lloat to one side or the other of the jetty may also vary, e.g., p and q. In this manner the device may be simply and eiciently adapted to the .breadth and length of the vessel to be moored.
- the floats are disposed obliquely to the jetty so that the vessels 5 may be moored obliquely to the jetty.
- This arrangement may provide particular advantages in certain harbors where local conditions make it desirable to moor vessels at an oblique angle.
- FIG. 4 there is shown a cross-section of a float 2.
- the float 2 is made of a plastic core such as polystyrene foam 11 and a wooden top plate 12.
- the iloat is encased in a polyester sheathing 13 upon which a fixing plate 14 may be attached.
- Plate 14 is in turn provided with a moor-v ing shackle 15.
- a device for mooring boats comprising (a) a jetty comprising (1) a pair of channel members having a plurality of spaced holes; and
- each of said iloats comprising (l) a polystyrene core;
- means for anchoring the jetty including (l) a pile; and l (2) shackle means attached to a channel member and loosely engaging the pile so as to permit the jetty to rise and fall with the level of the water.
- a device for mooring boats comprising (a) a plurality of elongated floats;
- said connecting means comprising:
- said connecting means being adjustable to permit attachment of each doat to the jetty at any of a 4 5/1962 Freeland 114-05 X 2/ 19612 McCall 114-05 7/19615 Chapman 114--015 X FOREIGN PATENTS 9/1962 Canada.
