UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE GUSTAV KOSOHEL, OF DENVER, COLORADO.
WASHING-MACHINE.
$PZBCIEICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 332,662, dated December l5, 1885.
Application filed August 13, 1884. Serial No. 140,426. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE G. KosoHEL, of Denver, in the county of Arapahoe and State ofOolorado, have invented a new and Improved Washing-Machine, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved Washingmachine which is simple in construction, and effective in use, and can be operated easily and rapidly.
The invention consists in the combination, with the clothes-box and devices for washing the clothes in the box, of a sliding box held under the clothes box and provided with hinged side and end pieces and with legs.
The invention also consists in various parts and details, and combinations of the same, as will be fully set forth hereinafter, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similarletters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure l is a longitudinal sectional elevation of my improved washing-machine, the clothes-holder being folded under the tub or clothes-box. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same, the clothes-holder being drawn out.
The box A is provided with a hinged. cover, B, a few inches below the top edge, which cover can be locked in place by means of latches O. In the cover 13 a vertical shaft, D, is journaled, on the upper end of which is mounted a pinion, D, engaging with a wheel, E, on a vertical shaft, F, on the cover, on the upper end of which shaft an arm, G, is pivoted, provided with a pin, H, connecting it with the wheel E. A handle-rod, I, is pivoted to the free end of the arm G. On the lower end of the shaft D a disk, J, is rigidly mounted, from which a series of pins, K, project downward, the said disk J being located within a recessed board, L, on the under side of the cover, to prevent the clothes being entangled place.
and torn by the pins or the disk. A faucet, M, is provided fordrawing off the Water. Below the box A a flat open box, N, is held to slide on side rails, O, and is provided on its outer end with legs P. The said box is provided with hinged side and end pieces, Q, R, which can be locked together, when raised, by hooks and eyes. The upper ends of the shafts D and F are preferably held in a plate, S, above the cover B.
In operating the machine the wheel E is revolved alternatelyin opposite directions, and, by means of the pinion D, revolves the shaft D, the disk J, and the pins K on the same in opposite directions. The water is agitated and the clothes whirled about in the tub and cleansed in a very short time.
The wringer is fastened on the rear wall, T, of the box, and the box N is pulled out and its sides and ends are swung up and locked in The clothes then drop from the wringer into the box N.
As the arm Gis held on the top of the shaft F by a nut, the said arm can easily be removed when the machine is not in use.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In a washing-machine, the combination, with the hinged cover of the clot-hesreceptacle, of the disk or board carrying the pendent pins, the disk-shaft supported by a bracket or raised plate secured to the upper side of said cover, the second shaft also supported upon said bracket or plate and geared to the disk-shaft, and the arm held upon said second shaft and having apendcnt pin connecting with the gearwheel of said second shaft, the said arm having a pivoted handle, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
GEORGE GUSTAV KOSGHEL. Witnesses:
