Description

March 14, 1967 R. v. sHlNNlcK CAKE DECORATOR Filed June l. 1966 ROGER l/. SH//VN/CK INVENTOR United States Patent O 3,308,705 CAKE DECORATOR Roger V. Shinnck, 8403 Glen Road, Baltimore, Md. 21234 Filed June l, 1966, Ser. No. 554,411 Claims. (Cl. 8495) This invention relates generally to music boxes, and more particularly it pertains to a musical rotary centerpiece and candle holder for a cake.
Nothing adds more to the festivity of a gathering than a musical centerpiece. For birthday parties and other occasions, there are now available small turntable music boxes on which .a cakerotates while the music plays.
It is an oblect of this invention to provide a more ilexible arrangement of music box centerpieces featuring changeable movable centerpieces and candle holders.
Another object of this invention is to provide a mechanized decoration for large or small cakes which is easily removed without disturbing or lifting the cake.
Other objects and attendant advantages of this invention Will become more readily apparent and understood from the following detailed specification and single sheet of accompanying drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a cake-decoration embodying features of this invention;
FIG. 2 is an enlarged detail view taken on :line 2 2 of FIG. 1; and
FIG. 3 is a plan view of the turntable.
Referring now to the details of the invention, reference numeral indicates generally a cake decorator. This cake decorator 10 consists of a casing 14, which is secured to a central depending spike 16 and adapted for impalement on a cake 12.
The casing 14 houses a music box mechanism 18 having a winding and drive stern 20 which extends vertically and centrally upwardly. A at turntable 22 is secured by a socket 24 to the drive stem 20 for rotation with respect to the casing 14 Ias best shown in FIG. 2. A magnet 26 is recessed in the top center of the turntable 22 so that a decoration structure 28 housing an iron plate 30 embedded in its bottom m-ay thus be removably mounted thereon.
A plurality of spaced holes 36 near the edge of turntable 2.2 serve to receive studs 34 on the ends of narrow arms 32, each of which carries a candle cup 38 and candle 40 at its outer end. These arms may be pivotally swung ICE Patented Mar. 14, 1967 as shown by the dotted line and curved arrow so as to adapt to a large or small cake 12.
When the start-stop key 42 of the -music box mechanism is -operated the music plays and the turntable 22 rotates carrying the decoration structure 28 and candles 40 around with it in a very impressive and entertaining manner.
When thecake is ready to be cut it is quite simple to remove the entire decoration 10 by withdrawing its completely; decoration, candles, music box, and spike in one operation, all without disturbing or lifting the cake.
Any number of -candles can be mounted as the occasion dictates 4and the decoration structure 28 exchanged for any `other which is suitable.
Obviously many modications and variations of the present invention are possible in light lof the above teachings. It is, therefore, to be understood that within the scope of the appended claims the invention may be practiced otherwise than as specifically described.
What is claimed is:
1. A cake decorator, comprising, a casing, a music box mechanism positioned in said casing, said mechanism having a wind-ing and drive stem extending vertically and centrally upwardly, means including a flat turntable spaced parallel to the upper surface of said casing secured to said winding and drive stem and arranged for rotation with respect to said casing, magnetic means recessed in the top center of said turntable, and a decoration structure having a magnetic material embedded in its bottom removably mounted on said turntable.
2. A cake decorator as recited in claim 1, wherein a plurality of spaced holes are provided in the edge periphery of said turntable, and means positioned in each vh-ole for mounting a candle. v
3. A cake decorator as recited in claim 2, wherein each means for holding a candle consists of a pivotally mounted arm.
4. A cake decorator as recited in claim 1, and means for interlocking said turntable with said respect to said casing.
