(CI. 89-41) The present invention relates to a device for computing the displacement of the line of aim for fire arms, and particularly for fire arms with level trajectory, intented for shooting at movable targets.
One embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the diagrammatical figure shown in the accompanying drawing.
In the drawing, 1 designates a control wheel for the ranging instrument of the fire arm (not shown). According to the invention, the control Wheel 1 is further connected to an electric pulse generator 5 by means of a rod 2, a gear 3, and a second rod 4. The output 6 of the pulse generator 5 is connected to an indicator for the pulses, comprising an electric lamp 7 for the lightinggof an index plate 8 comprised in the aiming ininstrument of the fire arm. The pulse generator 5 is designed as a non-symmetrical multivibrator or a blocking oscillator. A pulse generator of this kind generates a train of pulses in which the time interval between two adjacent pulses is dependent of the adjustment of the control means of the pulse generator, which control means generally comprises a variable resistor. According to the invention, said control means is so constructed,
that when the ranging instrument is properly adjusted,
the time interval between two adjacent pulses in the pulse train, i.e., the time interval between two successive flashes of the lamp 7, is automatically equal to the shooting time to the target (i.e., the time from the firing rnoment to the moment when the projectile hits the target).
The device according to the invention is used in the following way:
The operator keeps the fire arm steady while he ob- "ice has to turn the fire arm, so that the target is visible at an angle v (in the figure one and a half scale divisions) to the right of the central, vertical index line of the index plate, if the target is moving to the left, whereupon the weapon is fired. If the target is moving at substantially constant speed, it should now be hit by the projectile.
The invention is not limited to the described and illustrated embodiment thereof. It can be modified in several Ways without departing from the scope of the appended claims. Thus, the lamp 7 may, for instance, be replaced by an electromagnetic pulse indicator such as an electromagnetically actuated pointer, located close to the index plate, or by a telephone receiver, by which the pulses are audibly reproduced.
I claim:
1. Range control means for a level trajectory fire weapon comprising an index plate with a reticule pattern through which the target is visible for observing the movement of a target while the weapon is stationary, a pulse generator for generating a continuous train of pulses, frequency control means for adjusting the frequency of reoccurrence of the pulses of said train of pulses, said frequency control means being connected to said range control means so that the time interval between two consequent pulses in said train of pulses is equal to the time of flight for a projectile from the weapon to the target, and indicator means for indicating each pulse in said train of pulses and for enabling the operator to observe the position of the target on said index plate at the occurrence of each pulse in said train of pulses.
2. Range control means as claimed in claim 1, wherein said indicator means comprises an electric lamp for momentarily illuminating said index plate for each pulse in said train of pulses.
3. Range control means as claimed in claim 1, wherein said indicator means comprises an electromagnetically opearted pointer located adjacent said index plate.
4. Range control means as claimed in claim 1, wherein said pulse generator comprises a telephone receiver to be carried by the operator of said fire weapon and arranged to audibly indicate the occurrence of each pulse in said pulse train.

Claims (1)

1. RANGE CONTROL MEANS FOR A LEVEL TRAJECTORY FIRE WEAPON COMPRISING AN INDEX PLATE WITH A RETICULE PATTERN THROUGH WHICH THE TARGET IS VISIBLE FOR OBSERVING THE MOVEMENT OF A TARGET WHILE THE WEAPON IS STATIONARY, A PULSE GENERATOR FOR GENERATING A CONTINUOUS TRAIN OF PULSES, FREQUENCY CONTROL MEANS FOR ADJUSTING THE FREQUENCY OF REOCCURRENCE OF THE PULSES OF SAID TRAIN OF PULSES, SAID FREQUENCY CONTROL MEANS BEING CONNECTED TO SAID RANGE CONTROL MEANS SO THAT THE TIME INTERVAL BETWEEN TWO CONSEQUENT PULSES IN SAID TRAIN OF PULSES IS EQUAL TO THE TIME OF FLIGHT FOR A PROJECTILE FROM THE WEAPON TO THE TARGET, AND INDICATOR MEANS FOR INDICATING EACH PULSE IN SAID TRAIN OF PULSES AND FOR ENABLING THE OPERATOR TO OBSERVE THE POSITION OF THE TARGET ON SAID INDEX PLATE AT THE OCCURRENCE OF EACH PULSE IN SAID TRAIN OF PULSES.
