REMEDY FOR RHEUMATISM.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 329,697, dated November 3, 1885.
Application filed August ll, 1885. Serial No. 174,142. (Specimens) To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN ROWAN BARR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Union Star, in the county of Breckenridge and State of Kentucky, have inventeda new and useful Improvement in Medical Comp0unds,of which the following is a description.
My invention is in the nature of a medical compound for the treatment of rheumatism and rheumatic pains; and it consists of the following ingredients, in or about the proportions named: apple-brandy, (copper-distilled preferred,) one gallon; star-ro0t or star-grass, (Aletris farinosa,) eight ounces; gum-guaiacum, one ounce; nitrate potash, two ounces; prickly-ash berries, (Xanthomylum Americamma) one-half ounce.
All of the above ingredients are to be placed in a jug, demijohn, or other vessel and allowed to stand for seven days, after which the 20 liquid may be decanted and used. The dose is from one to two table-spoonfuls three times a day.
This preparation has been used with great success in the treatment of rheumatism. 25
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is- The herein-described medical composition for the treatment of rheumatism, consisting of apple-brandy, star-root, (Aletm'a) gumguaiao cum, nitrate potash, and prickly-ash berries, in or about the proportions specified.
