CENTRIFUGAL BOLTING-MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 329,097, dated October 27,1885.
Application filed May 22, 1885. Serial No. 166,370. (No model.) Patented in Belgium April 30, 1885, No. 63,709, andin England April zio, 1ss5,N0. 5,345.
.T0 a/ZZ whom it may concern.-
Beitknown thatl, EMILSTREITZ, of Freien- Walde, in the Kingdom of Prussia and Empire .of Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Centrifugal Bolting- Machines, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved vertical centrifugal bolting-machine in which the air-pressure is uniformly distributed within the machine, and thereby a very effective action of the same obtained.
The invention consists of a bolting-reel formed of a wire frame or cage, having a bolting-cloth placed loosely thereon, and radial beaters attached to a hollow cylindrical shaft having open ends, air-openings, and a horizontal partition or diaphragm. The boltingreel is inclosed by a frame having interior screens and exterior doors,'the spaces between said screens and doors communicating by top and bottom channels with the hollow shaft for keeping up the circulation of the air.
The invention consists, further, of certain details of construction and combinations of parts, as will more fully appear hereinafter, and finally be pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents a vertical central section of my improved bolting-machine, Fig. 2, a horizontal section of the same on line x x, Fig. l; Fig. 3,
- a detail side view of the wire frame or cage of the bolting-reel; and Fig. 4 a horizontal section of the bolting-reel, drawn on alarger scale.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
a inV the drawings representsa vertical tu,- bular shaft that is provided with spider-frames c c at t-he ends, to the hubs ofl which are attached the end shafts, b b', that turn in step and neck bearings of the frame of the boltingmachine. The tubular shaft a is provided with a number of holes or slots, u', and is preferably made of two parts that are sepa rated at the center by a horizontal diaphragm or partition-plate, w, to which the shaftfsections are riveted by suitable angle-irons, as shown in Fig. 1. The horizontal partition .r
serves to deflect the air that is drawn in through the spider-frames at the upper and lower ends of the shaft a and force it through the holes of the shaft in a direction as nearly at right angles to the bolting-cloth as possible, so that the circulation of the air takes place in two separate currents, an upper and a lower one, as indicated by arrows in Fig. l. The tubular shaft a is provided with radial beaters ff, which are connected by horizontal top and bottom shelves or disks, t t, for holding them A rigidly in position. Theupper shelf, t, serves also as a distributing-plate for the meal supplied through the conveying-tube e. The outer edges of the beaters f are arranged with projecting strips o, of suitable elastic material, that pass along the inner surface of the bolting-reel. The rotating beaters are inclosed by the boltinglreel, which consists of a wire frame or cage around which the boltingcloth is loosely applied. The cage is formed of circular top and bottom frames, r r, vertical stays rr, and vertical parallel wires s. supported by the frames r r, as shown in Fig. 3. The bolting-reel, formed by the wire cage s and the'boltingcloth g, is again inclosed by a frame, p, the panels of which are provided with downwardly-inclined sheet-metal deflectors n and screens d. The panels of the frame p are supported by upright corner-posts, and are again inclosed by exterior detachable doors p between which and the screens vertical chaunels Z are formed, which communicate at their lower ends by communicating-tubes o with a square bottom chamber, i', that surrounds the lower part of the revolving shaft a, and at the upper part with a chamber, 2,which chambers communicate with the open ends of the tu'- bular center shaft. a. The flour that is passed through the bolting-cloth is conveyed oif through the channel h, while the coarser particles separated from the meal are passed through the channel i', to which they are moved by the scraper m, attached to the bottom shelf or disk, t.
The bolting-machine is operated in the following manner: The meal passes through the inlet-pipe e to the upper distributing shelf or disk, t, and from the same into the spaces between the rotating beaters f, which throw the meal by the action of centrifugal force against the bolting-cloth and conduct the same in a ICC spiral line along the same until the finer particles are separated from the coarser ones and conducted off, respectively, through the channels h and i. The vertical beaters f act inthe nature of a suction-fan by drawing in the air through the spider-frames at the ends of the tubular center shaft and forcing it through the openings of the shaft-sections in two separate currents through the bolting-cloth. As the ends of the tubular shaft communicate with the top and bottom chambers of the bolting-machine, and the latter with the vertical channels' between the screens and exterior doors the beaters draw the air that has been forced through the bolting-cloth, screens, and channels back into the shaft, so that a continuous circulation of air is obtained and undue pressure in any part of the machine prevented, so that a very regular and effective screening takes place. Y
In baiting-machines heretofore in use the air is gradually compressed to such an extent that the air is emitted through every chink and untight part of the frame to the outside, so as to carry screened particles of iiour along and cause the so-called dusting77 of the machine. By my arrangementy dusting is entirely prevented, as an even pressure and circulation of the air is kept up in the machine. Another importantvpoint is, that the machine draws in but little fresh air through the supply-opening, so that consequently but little ymoisture is passed into the machine, and thereby the sweating of the same prevented. The sheet-metal deiiectors prevent the choking of the screens, as they distribute the fiour more uniformly over the screens. The most important point of novelty, however, consists in the use of a bolting-reel with a loose boltingcloth, which is passed around a cage of wire rods, by which the contact of the beaters with the bolting-cloth is prevented. By the loose mounting of the bolting-cloth the latter is. continually kept in motion by the aircurrent and thereby freed of the adhering iiour particles.
l Ihe bolting-cloth can be applied to the supporting-frame in any suitable manner, either in large sections, as shown in Fig. 2, or in smaller panels, so as to be of polygonal shape.
In either case the cloth is glued to the' top and bottom frames.
The interior of the machine is readily accessible by the removable doors, so that any part of the reel can be readily repaired without difficulty.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. rIhe combination of a perforated and tubular center shaft having radial beaters, a bolting-reel having a loose exterior boltingcloth, and inclosingframe having interior screens, exterior doors, and top and bottom chambers which communicate with the channels between the screens and doors and with the tubular center shaft, substantially as set forth.
2. rIhe combination of a tubular and perforated center shaft having open ends and a horizontal partition, radial beaters attached to the shaft,a bolting-reel formed of a wire cage and a loose exterior bolting cloth, an inclosing-frame having exterior doors and interior screens, inclined deflectors inside ofthe screens, and top and bottom chambers that communicate with the vertical channels between the'screens and doors and with the tubular center shaft, substantially as set forth.
3. In a centrifugal boltingmachine, the combination of a center shaft having radial beaters with a bolting-reel formed of a wire cage and loose exterior bolting-cloth, substantially as set forth.
4. In a centrifugal bolting-machine, the combination of a tubular and perforated airdis tributing shaft having open ends and a horizontal partition, radial beaters attached t0 said shaft, connecting shelves or disks, and a bolting-reel formed of a wire cage and aloose exterior bolting-cloth, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EMIL STREITZ.
