Filed June 21, 1965, Ser. No. 465,434 4 Claims. (Cl. 10891) The invention relates generally to tables and specifically to tables having several decks.
It is an object of this invention to provide tables that have a plurality of surfaces to hold articles.
It is another object of this invention to provide tables that are stackable, the one above the other. Yet another object of this invention is to provide a table spaced sufficiently above the surface upon which it rests, to permit the hood of a motor vehicle to pass under it. These objects and advantages as well as other objects and advantages may be attained by the device shown by way of illustration in the drawings in which FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of the multi-deck table, with a loading ramp attached;
FIGURE 2 is a perspective view of the dual-purpose hook;
FIGURE 3 is a perspective view of the separate top portion of the legs;
FIGURE 4 is a perspective view of the unitary top portion of one of the pair of legs;
FIGURE 5 is a vertical elevational, partial view of the legs of two tables connected together by the hook shown in FIGURE 2; and
FIGURE 6 is a partial vertical elevational view of the engaged portion of the legs and tables, and also the engaged portion of the ramp and tables.
Where storage space is at a premium, as, for example, in a garage, a multi-deck table will be useful, particularly if it is so dimensioned to permit a portion of the front end of an automobile to go beneath it. Such a table is hereafter described. It is made of commonly available parts, so that its cost may below.
First and second table tops 11, 11 are provided. They are generally flat sheets with dependent flanges 12, 12 on each longitudinal side-edge. The bottom 13 of the flange 12 is bent over horizontally and there is a vertical bent over portion or lip 14 to define a channel to receive the end of a leg 15.
The legs 15 are preferably arranged in pairs, made of aluminum tubing and interconnected by integral, gene1ral- 1y horizontal bars 16. The upper end of each leg is preferably made in two parts. A pair of legs 15, 15
joined by the integral horizontal bar 16 (the first part) is 50 generally U-shaped. The upper ends are provided with an extension 17 having a cross-sectional area somewhat less than that of the legs 16. The extension has a plurality of holes 18 for selective, adjustable engagement wih the second part 19.
The second part 19 is an inverted L shaped, tubular member with a down-turned end 20. A hole 21 at one end permits selective engagement with the holes 18, 18, so that the table 11 may be adjustable in height. A hole 22 in the other end, enables fastening in the channel of the table-top 12. Bolts, pins, and the like may be used. The second part 19 is dimensioned so that it fits snugly in the channel of the table top 12.
The legs of the first table 11 are each provided with dual purpose hooks 23 which are pivotably attached to the legs 15, with the curved seat 24 facing upwardly, and the hole 25 as the pivot point. The same screw or bolt 36 that attaches the leg 15 to the second part 19 may be used to attach the hook 23. Since the legs 15 may be dis posed in an outward and downward direction from the table top 11, the pivotable hook 23 permits adaptation of the horizontal bar 16 of a superposed second table 12.
3,289,614 Patented Dec. 6, 1966 A ramp 26 may be used to move articles onto and off of the tables 11, 12. The hook 23 may be used to attach the ramp 26 to the table-tops 11, 12. The hook 23 has a flange 27 that is attached to the bottom of the ramp 26 5 by a bolt or screw passed through the hole 28. A similar hook 23 (reversed in form) is attached to the other end of the ramp 26. The hook 23 has a flat portion 29, terminating in a piercing spike 30 which may be caused to penetrate the table top 11, 12 for secure seating attachment. The ramp 26 may be extended to either the first or second table-tops 11, 11.
The foregoing description is merely intended to illustrate an embodiment of the invention. The component parts have been shown and described. They each may have substitutes which may perform a substantially similar function; such substitutes may be known as proper substitutes for the said components and may have actually been known or invented before the present invention; these substitutes are contemplated as being within the scope of the appended claims, although they are not specificially catalogued herein.
What is claimed:
1. A multi-deck table comprising:
(a) a lower table top;
(b) legs attached to the lower table-top and extending in an outward and downward direction;
(c) at least a portion of each leg extending beyond the end of the said lower tableatop;
(d) an upper table-top;
(e) legs attached to the upper table-top and extending in a downward direction;
(f) horizontal bars integral with pairs of legs of the upper table-top;
(g) hooks pivotably attached to the legs of the lower table-top and supporting the horizontal bars;
(h) each hook comprising :a flat member;
(1) an arcuate seat on one edge of the flat member;
(j) a flange generally perpendicular to the plane of the flat member formed on the flat member beneath the arcuate seat;
(k) a top on the flat member extending in a direction opposite the arcuate seat, and,
(l) a piercing member depending from the said top.
2. A multi-deck table comprising the device according 45 to claim 1 in which,
(a) the top on the said flat member has :an opening in proximity to its intersection with the piercing member,
(b) the flange has an opening, and,
(c) a pivot pin extends through the leg of the lower table-top and the opening in the top of the flat member pivotally engaging the hook to the said leg, and
(d) a ramp member is connected to one of said table tops by additional hook members secured to said ramp by fastening means extending through the opening in the flanges on the fiat members and attached to the ramp with said piercing members engaging one of said table tops.
3. A hook for interengaging multi-deck tables and com- 60 panion ramps comp-rising,
(a) a flat member,
(b) an arcuate seat on one edge of the flat member,
(c) a flange generally perpendicular to the plane of the fiat member formed on the flat member beneath the arcuate seat,
((1) a top on the fiat member extending in a direction opposite the arcuate seat, and,
(e) a piercing member depending from the said top.
4. A hook for interengaging multi-deck tables and com- 70 panion ramps comprising,
( a) the structure in accordance with claim 3 in which,
(b) the flange is inclined at an angle to the top and is formed from the flat member by folding a portion thereof at right angles to the plane thereof.

Claims (1)
1. A MULTI-DECK TABLE COMPRISING: (A) A LOWER TABLE TOP; (B) LEGS ATTACHED TO THE LOWER TABLE-TOP AND EXTENDING IN AN OUTWARD AND DOWNWARD DIRECTION; (C) AT LEAST A PORTION OF EACH LEG EXTENDING BEYOND THE END OF THE SAID LOWER TABLE-TOP; (D) AN UPPER TABLE-TOP; (E) LEGS ATTACHED TO THE UPPER TABLE-TOP AND EXTENDING IN A DOWNWARD DIRECTION; (F) HORIZONTAL BARS INTEGRAL WITH PAIRS OF LEGS OF THE UPPER TABLE-TOP; (G) HOOKS PIVOTABLY ATTACHED TO THE LEGS OF THE LOWER TABLE-TOP AND SUPPORTILNG THE HORIZONTAL BARS; (H) EACH HOOK COMPRISING A FLAT MEMBER; (I) AN ARCUATE SEAT ON ONE EDGE OF THE FLAT MEMBER; (J) A FLANGE GENERALLY PERPENDICULAR TO THE PLANE OF THE FLAT MEMBER FORMED ON THE FLAT MEMBER BENEATH THE ARCUATE SEAT; (K) A TOP ON THE FLAT MEMBER EXTENDING IN A DIRECTION OPPOSITE THE ARCUATE SEAT, AND, (L) A PIERCING MEMBER DEPENDING FROM THE SAID TOP.
