Description

UNTTED STAES PATV `ali ONCE.
WM. T. NICHOLSON, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
EGG-BEATER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, VILLIAM T. NICHOL- soN, of the city and county ot Providence, in the State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful linproveinent in Egg- Beaters; and l do hereby declare that the following specification, taken in connection with the drawings, making a part ot the same, is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
Figures 1 and 2 are respectively front and side views of my improved egg beater. Fig. 3 is a view of the chair or scclet. for attaching the beater to the table or to any other object. Figs. 4- and 5 are detailed parts to be referred to hereafter.
A. A is a convenient handle in which the point B is an axle for the wheel C which is operated by the crank D. The Wheel C has its Jface beveled and provided with teeth which engaging with the teeth of the pinion E. cause the latter to be rotated in a plane perpendicular to the plane of revolution ot the former.
The pinion E is keyed to a rod F which has its support and bearings in the handle A at the points a and (Fig. 2.) The lower extremity ot the rod is provided with a pair of propeller blades G. G. which being attached to the rod are rotated with it.
To the under side of the pinion E is secured the disk H (Fig. 5,) its lower surface being furnished with an elliptic groove or channel l. Two arms K. K pivoted to the handle at c and (l extend to the bottoni of the propeller blade their lower extremities being in the form ont a spoon bills beak. A projecting ear e, c oneach arm is inserted in the elliptic groove l whereby as the propeller shaft F is rotated to which the disk is attached a reciprocating motion is given to each of the arms; the grooved disk being arranged on the shaft F with its longest diameter in the same plane as the propeller blades t'or the purpose ot accommodating the reciprocating motion ot the spoon bill arms to the rotary motion ot' the blades, without interference.
Ts is obvious that when the machine is in use for agitating fluids the circling cu rents occasioned by the blades ot the propeller will be broken at regular intervals by the action of the spoon bill arms K K in such a manner as to cause the agitation of every particle of the liquid within the range olf-the action of the machine.
For the purpose of attaching the machine to any object or to any part of the room I use a socketl or chair (Fig. 3) which by means cit the spurs f and a single wood screw inserted through the hole g may be permanently attiXed wherever desired. The sides z, 71, are slightly inclined toward each other and are also turned over tar enough to grasp the handle of the machine which is tted by a corresponding inclination ot its sides to be inserted in the groove of the chair. By raising the handle out ot the chair the machine can be removed at pleasure and used as a hand machine.
1What l claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The reciprocating beaters K K or their equivalents when combined with a revolving beater G G or its equivalentwsnbstantially as described for the purposes specied.
WVM. T. NCHOLSON. lllitnesses Jol-rn GARTLAND, JOSEPH XV. MOORE.
