(Cl. 248-359) The present invention relates to a container for essences, perfumes and cosmetics such as face lotion and milky lotion or the like, and more particularly to such a container which is adapted to be supported in a stabilized condition and can be used as a beautiful ornament even after the content of the container is exhausted.

Generally, cosmetics, in particular such as perfumes, are considerably expensive, so that they are usually sold as contained in a very small container in comparison with foods or the like goods. These small containers are easily tipped over on a supporting table or a dresser upon the accidental touching thereof of finger or clothes of the user, which will usually result in the damage of the container. Further, in the prior art, artistic considerations have been paid to such cosmetic containers for the purpose of appealing to the aesthetic feeling of the user in correspondence with the expensiveness of the content therein. However, such container has usually been discarded after the consumption of the content and no effort has been attempted to utilize the artistic nature of the container for other purposes.

Accordingly, a main object of the present invention is to provide a stabilized support for such cosmetic containers, which are easy to tip over as above mentioned, thereby preventing accidental non-intended tipping and incidental damage of the container and to prevent the content therein from being lost. According to the feature of this invention, the flowing-out and thus the loss of expensive cosmetic contained in the container can be securely prevented in the event of the tipping over of the container even if the cap is removed or loosely fitted to the container.

Another object of this invention is to prevent the falling of the container from the supporting table or dresser and incidental damage thereof which results in the loss of the contents, even if tipping of the container should happen in any way.

Another important object of this invention is to utilize the container for an ornamental purpose regardless of the cosmetic being filled therein or being used up. Priorly, almost no consideration has been paid to the actual utilization of the container for the ornamental purpose. According to the present invention, the container is contemplated as being utilized as an effective ornament thus to evaluate aesthetic aspect of the expensive container.

A still further object of this invention is to provide a container which can be assembled instantly in a manner desired by the user or the purchaser. The container of this kind is somewhat expensive and designs have been made on the container, as above mentioned. However, such designs are generally of a permanent nature and it is impossible to change such design in accordance with the users taste. According to the present invention, containers of several different designs can be displayed for sale in the store to provide for the purchaser the container of the design which meets the taste of the purchaser by assembling the container in a rapid and simple manner.

A further object of this invention is to provide a container for cosmetics which has an ornamental value and brings about an expensive feeling in the purchaser.

Now referring to the drawings, reference numeral 1 indicates the main body of the container of this invention, the container being threadedly fitted with a cover cap 12 at the top thereof as in the conventional manner. The main body 1 of the container has a fitting bottom 2 which is preferably in a true circular form. However, it should be appreciated that the bottom 2 is not necessarily restricted to the circular form, but elliptic, square, polygonal forms or combinations thereof can be employed, if desiredv The present invention provides a dish-

11 or 21 which has a top formed with a concaved portion 9 in the form corresponding to said bottom 2 of the container main body 1. The dish-like concaved bottom face ltl opposite to the concaved portion 9 is applied with a suitable ornamental pattern 17 as shown in FIG. 3. The external side surface of the dish-like body 11 is also provided with drawing patterns 17 such as shown in FIG. 5. The diameter of the dish-like body is larger than that of the container main body so that the latter can be slidably "ice fitted within the concaved portion 9.

The container main body 1 and dish-like 11 or 21 are connected with each other by a ring member 3 according to the present invention, which ring member 3 is made of synthetic resin or rubber material and has a certain degree of resiliency and flexibility. The ring member 3 is provided at the intermediate portion thereof with a horizontal flange 6 which projects outwardly and inwardly and serves as reinforcing member for the ring member 3.

The inner portion of the flange 6 serves, in combination with an integrally formed vertical annular portion 5, for receiving the bottom 2 of the main body 1 of the container. Integrally formed with the flange 6 is a vertically depending ring 7 which is fitted within the dish-like body 11. As above mentioned, the bottom portion 2 of the container main body 1 is fitted within the ring member 3 in tight contact with the inner surface 4 of the annular portion 5 and the upper surface of the inwardly projecting portion of the flange 6, as shown in FIG. 2, while the depending annular portion 7 is fitted within the concaved portion 9 of the dish-like body 11. The connection in this manner can be reliably secured due to the resiliency of the angular member 3, which also allows for an easy disconnection, if necessary. As above mentioned, container main body 1, the bottom 2 of which is fitted within the ring member 3, has a tendency to expand the ring member outwardly, while the dish-like portion 11 fitting the depending ring 7 within the concaved portion 9 will act to compress the ring member 3 inwardly in a manner to restrict the expanding action of the container main body 1. 11 or 21 can be suitably connected with each other by means of the ring member 3 in a balanced condition under the expanding and the compressing actions as above mentioned.

In FIGS. 1 and 3, dish-like body is shown as having a true circular form which fully meet the afore-mentioned objects of this invention. However, it will be more preferable to employ an elliptical or polygonal dish-like body '21 as shown in FIG. 6 in order to prevent the rolling of the container when it is tipped over. For example, the elliptical dish-like body 21 such as shown in FIG. 6 will be restricted in the falling direction to the shorter axis of the ellipse, and the rolling of the container after its being tipped over will also be limited within the range between the long axes of the ellipse.

As will be apparent from the foregoing, as the bottom of the container main body 1 is connected with the

11 or 21 which has oversized periphery 19, the container can be placed on the table or the dresser in a stabilized condition as shown in FIG. 2, and thus the accidental touch of finger or the clothes of the user will not tip over the container.

Further, on the assumption that the container is tipped over in any way, the container will then take the position as shown in FIG. in which the Oversize periphery 19 of the dish-

11 or 21 and the shoulder portion of the container main body 1 or a corner of the cap will contact the upper surface of the table or the dresser. In such position, the container will rotate about the center point at which the extention of the axis of the container intersects the upper surface of the table, and thus the container is prevented from rotating on the table surface.

In the fallen position of FIG. 5, the bottom surface 10 of the dish-like body 11 Will be in an inclined plane and the ornamental pattern 17 drawn on the bottom surface 10 is exposed for the view. However, especially in the case the dish-like body is in a true circular form, the container tends to roll. For the purpose of preventing such rolling of the container, the present invention also provides a holding structure which comprises a pair of side frames 14 each having feet 16. The side frames 14 are connected with each other by horizontal connecting bars 20, as shown in FIG. 4. The container assembly of this invention can be supported on this structure with the dish-like body 11 disposed inclinedly as shown in FIG. 3. In the supported condition of the container assembly, it will be noted that the container main body 1 may be connected with the dish-like body 11 or may be removed away therefrom. In the former case, the container main body 1 will be inserted in the space 18 between the

It will be easily understood that, according to the present invention, several kinds of the dish-

like bodies

11 or 21 each having difierent ornamental patterns 17 can be displayed for sale in the store together with a cosmetic containing container so that purchaser may choose the container assembly in accordance with ones taste. Further, the container main body 1, the dish-like body 11, the ring member 3 and, if necessary, the holding structure such as shown in FIG. 4 can be sold as one set packaged in a suitable box. In either case, the assembling can be easily carried out on the part of the purchaser by means of the connecting ring 3.

In brief, according to the present invention, the cosmetic container can be placed in the stabilized condition, prevented from accidental tipping or rolling and from dam- 6 age upon its falling from the table, and thus the loss of cosmetic contained therein; and further the container may serve as an ornament for a long time after or even before the cosmetic is used up.

Without further analysis, the foregoing will so fully reveal the gist of the present invention that others can, by applying current knowledge, readily adapt it for various applications without omitting features that, from the standpoint of prior art, fairly constitute essential characteristics of the generic or specific aspects of this invention and, therefore, such adaptations should and are intended to be comprehended within the meaning and range of equivalence of the following claims.

What is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:

1. A cosmetic container comprising a container having an open end and an opposite closed end, a cap detachably mounted on said container open end, a flexible member having a center opening and a lateral flange extending internally and externally of said center opening of said member, said member having an internal wall extending to the internal portion of said flange capable of mating with said closed end of said container, a dish-like base member of greater width than said container and having an annular top recess and a second ring depending from said first member flange and detachably mating with said base top recess up to said flange.

2. A cosmetic container as claimed in claim 1 wherein said base has ornamental indicia on the exterior thereof.

3. A cosmetic container as claimed in claim 1 wherein said base has a circular exterior configuration.

4. A cosmetic container as claimed in claim 1 wherein said base has an elliptical exterior configuration.

5. A cosmetic container comprising a dish-like base having an ornamented bottom and recessed top, a resilient ring detachably mounted on and in said base recessed top, a container having a bottom detachably mounted in said ring and an open end, a cap detachably mounted on said container open end closing the same, a support consisting of a pair of side frame members each having feet and a recessed edge, and spaced apart connecting members extending between and connecting said side frame members. said dish-like base having its bottom detachably mounted on said side frame member recessed edges displaying the ornamentation on said bottom and said base, ring and container extending between said side frame members and said connecting members.
