MOP WRINGER AND WATER CONTROL MEANS FOR DUAL COMPARTMENT FAILS Filed June 29, 1964 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 IN VENTOR.
A7- DRIVE) United States Patent M 3,284,835 MOP WRINGER AND WATER CONTROL MEANS FOR DUAL COMPARTMENT PAILS Peter E. Daubenspeck, 151 Ontario Road, Pontiac, Mich. Filed June 29, 1964, Ser. No. 378,759 4 Claims. (Cl. 15-260) 'This invention relates to mop wringer and water control means for dual compartment pails having a transverse partition, and has for its object to provide V-wedge type mop wringer and water control means mounted on said partition formed to direct dirt and dirty water squeezed from a mop to one pail compartment keeping fresh or detergentized water in the other pail compartment substantially free from dirt picked up by the mop.
A further object of the invention is to provide, in combination with the foregoing, the employment of a V- wedge type mop wringer which is utilized to squeeze dirt and dirty water from a wedge complementary shaped or other suitable mop, the said V-wedge type mop wringer including simple and effective means for readily releasing the mop from the wringer element after the mop has been manually pressed therein for cleansing and is being lifted therefrom.
Other objects of the invention will become apparent by reference to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 is a top plan view of a dual compartment scrub pail having mounted on the central compartmenting partition thereof a V-wedge type mop wringer and water control means of the invention.
FIG. 2 is an end elevational view of a wedge type mop preferably employed with the invention.
FIG. 3 is an enlarged side elevational view of the mopping head of the wedge type mop shown in FIG. 2.
FIG. 4 is a longitudinal elevational view of the V- wedge type mop wringer and water control means as shown in FIG. 1 but removed from the dual compartment scrub pail.
FIG. 5 is an end elevational view taken on the line 5-5 of FIG. 4.
FIG. 6 is an enlarged cross sectional view taken on the line 66 of FIG. 1 showing a wedge type rnop pressed downwardly in the V-wedge type mop wringer element, the dot and dash lines indicating how the wringer element tilts for ready release of the mop upon lifting the mop after having pressed it downwardly in the wringer element for wringing (squeezing) dirty water and dirt therefrom.
Referring now to the drawings wherein like reference characters refer to like and corresponding parts throughout the several views, an illustrative embodiment of a mop wringer and water control means 10 for dual compartment pails is disclosed in connection with a conventional plastic dual compartment pail 11 having a bail 12, central longitudinal partition 13 forming a compartment A for detergentized water and a compartment B for dirty water and dirt squeezed from a mop 14 suitable for wet mopping floors and the like. The mop 14 is shown in FIGS. 2, 3 and 6 to be one of the style and type disclosed and claimed in Patent No. 2,852,797 issued on September 23, 1958, to Peter E. Daubenspeck, the applicant herein.
Of course, compartment pails and mops of other types may be employed with the instant invention by making the details of the mop wringer and water control means disclosed herein suitable for such use. It is also obvious that other types of mops than the mop 14 illustrated herein may be used with the particular mop wringer 10 and dual compartment pail 11 shown in the drawings,
3,284,835 Patented Nov. 15, 1966 2 although the mop 14 having a handle 15 connected by suitable means 16 to a wedge shaped mopping head 17 and covered on its diagonal sides and lower edge with absorbent sponge rubber or the like 18 is preferred.
The mop wringer and water control means 10 of the invention comprises a V-wedge type mop wringer element 20 having a pair of angularly related sides 21 and a bottom 22 formed into a V-t-rough with the sides 21 suitably perforated at 23'to let dirty water and dirt pass therethrough when a mop containing Water and dirt is manually pressed vertically into the said V-wedge type mop wringer element-20. The said perforations 23 preferably are formed to present a smooth interior surface of the said mop wringer element 20.
The mop wringer element 20 is preferably secured at the upper edges of the angularly related sides 21 thereof on a pair of supporting rods 24 which extend freely through laterally spaced apertures 25 and 26 in a pair of longitudinally spaced end plates-27. The said rods 24 are capped by suitable cap nuts 240. The end plates 27 are each bifurcated at their lower ends at 28 to telescope over the central longitudinal partition 13 in the dual compartment pail 11, and are formed with flanges 280, 281
and 281 to firmly seat on and engage the said central partition 13 of the dual compartment pail 1.
Between the end plates 27 of the V-Wedge type mop wringer and water control means 10 is a fixed longitudinally disposed offset spacer-baffle member 30 which both rigidly spaces the end plates 27 and acts as a bafiie directing dirty water and dirt squeezed from the mop 14 passing through the perforations 23 in the angularly related sides 21 ofthe wringer element 20 into compartment B of the dual compartment pail 11 keep ing clear water or detergentized water in compartment A of said pail substantially clean. The said longitudinally disposed offset space'r-bafile 30 preferably extends at 30cm substantially parallel spaced relationship to one angular side 21 of the V-wedge type wringer element 20 and at 301 in spaced relationship to the bottom 22 thereof from whence it extends in depending relationship forming an apron 302 extending downwardly into compartment B of the said dual compartment pail 11 substantially below the lower edge of the other angular side 21 of the said wringer element 20 as best shown in FIG. 6. It will be noted that the length of the wringer element 20 is somewhat shorter than the distance between the end plates 27 so that the said wringer element may tilt as hereinafter described.
The aperture 25 at the near side of the end plates 27 of the mop wringer and water control means 20 as viewed in FIG. 4 is preferably elongated vertically so that the entire V-type mop wringer element 20 may tilt as viewed in FIG. 6 when a mop 14 is being lifted therefrom after wringing (squeezing) the mop head 16 therein by downward manual pressure on the mop handle 15. This tilting of the wringer element 20 when withdrawing the head of a mop 14 therefrom assures a gentle release of the mop 14 from the mop wringer and water control means 10, and this feature functions excellently for its purpose whether the mop head 16 of the mop 14 is wedge shaped or of another conventional shape.
Although but a single embodiment of the invention has been disclosed and described herein, it is obvious that various changes and modifications in the size, shape, arrangement and details of the mop wringer and water control means of the invention to accommodate its use with various styles and sizes of dual compartment mop pails and floor mops, all without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims.
