Description

(No Model.)
0. A. SATHE.
SLED KNEE.
No. 327,826. Patented get. 6, 1885 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE OLE A. SATHE, OF JACKSON, MINNESOTA.
SLED-KNEE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 327,826, dated October 6, 1885.
Application filed June 27, 1885.
T0 aZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, OLE A. SATHE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jackson, in the county of Jackson and State of Minna sota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sled-Knees; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in sled-knees; and it consistsin the construction, combination, and arrangement of the several parts, hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the knee, showing a portion of the runner slightly broken away to reveal the central stud. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the knee, showing the cross-beam in side view and the runner in cross-section. Fig. 3 is a section on line X X, Fig. 1,. Fig. 4 is a section on the line Y Y, Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a detail of the top of the knee. Fig. 6 is a detail of the cap plate, and Fig. 7 is a section 011 the line Z Z, Fig. 2.
a is the knee, which has an elongated foot, a, provided with side flanges a adapted to embrace the sides of the runner It, as shown. At the middle of the foot a stud, of, is provided, which enters the body of the runner. The knee is fastened to the runner by suitable bolts.
The knee is provided with a rounded head or tenon, b, formed so as to provide the shoulders b on opposite sides thereof. At the end of the tenon cylindrical extensions 1) b are formed, around which are put the fastening staples.
A cap-plate, c, is interposed between the Serial No. 169,981. (No model.)
rounded head of the knee and the beam B. It has on the top its side flanges c c, which embrace the beam. On its under face it is provided with the rounded mortise 0 which is closed at its ends by cross portions 0 0 which prevent the plate from slipping endwise. The plate fits down over the sides and ends of the tenon, as shown. The plate is secured to the beam by a screw, 0, or any other suitable means, and it is provided at its ends with holes 0 0 through which the arms of the staples or stirrups d are passed. The ends I) b are held by the stirrups.
The plate a is secured in place on the cross beam; then the tenon b is placed in the mortise 0 then the shanks of the stirrups are inserted, as shown, and secured in place. The knee is bolted to the runner, and the several parts are then in proper position.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with the runner and the cross-beam, of the knee having on its lower end longitudinal flanges to embrace the sides of the runner, and a central stud to enter the body of said runner, and having on its upper end a tenon rounded on its upper side, and cylindrical extensions at the opposite ends, a cap-plate having in its under side a single halfrounded mortise closed at its ends, and fitting down over the sides and ends of the tenon, and having its upper side flanged to embrace the cross-beam, and the staples or stirrups embracing the cylindrical extensions of the tenon, and passing through corresponding apertures in said plate near each end of the mortise, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
OLE A. SATHE.
