Description

oct. 4, V1966 B. D. MORGAN 3,276,449
ADHESIVE BRASSIERE Filed Sept. 10, 1964 ATTYS.
United States Patent O Ghio Filed Sept. 10, 1964, Ser. No. 395,484 3 Claims. (Cl. 12S-505) The present invention relates to adhesive type bras, and particularly to a self-adhesive brassiere, bikini type of a bathing suit top, or the like.
The general object of the present invention is to provide a novel and improved self-adhesive bra `that is characterized by support of the breasts by an elongate generally dumbbell-shaped plastic strip that is adapted to be looped around and supported by the wearers neck and have the lower ends of the dumbbell-shaped strip engage the breasts for support action.
Another object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved article which can be used as a bikini type bathing suit top, or equivalent article, and wherein the article comprises an elongate plastic strip having end portions for engaging the wearers breasts for support action and having a layer of pressure sensitive adhesive at each end of the plastic strip for attachment to the wearers breasts on the lower surface thereof.
A further object of the Ainvention is to provide an inexpensive self-adhesive type of a brassiere, or bathing suit top, which can be worn once and discarded, or which can be reused, as desired.
The foregoing and other objects and advantages of the invention will be made more apparent as the specification proceeds.
With reference to the accompanying drawings,
FIG. 1 is an elevation view of a lady wearing the selfadhesive brassiere of the invention;
FIG. 2 is a fragmentary plan of the self-adhesive brassiere of the invention; and
FIG. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical section, taken on line 3-3 of FIG. 2.
When referring to corresponding members shown in the drawings and referred to in the specification, corresponding numerals are used to facilitate comparison therebetween.
Generally speaking, the present invention, as to one embodiment thereof, relates to a self-adhesive bikini-type bathing suit top, brassiere or the like, comprising an elongate, generally dumbbell-shaped strip of thin, flexible plastic film having enlarged ends for covering a wearers breasts and having a narrow neck engaging section connecting such ends, and strips of flexible material carrying a layer of pressure-sensitive adhesive on both faces thereof attached to the plastic film at each of the axially outer edges of `the enlarged ends of the strip whereby the plastic film strip can be looped around the wearers neck and the ends of the strip can extend down to and cover and engage the lower portions of the wearers breasts to be attached thereto by the remaining layers of pressure sensitive adhesive on the plastic film.
Particular attention now is directed to the accompanying drawings wherein the novel and improved article of the invention, or self-adhesive bikini top is indicated as a whole by the numeral 1 and it is shown operatively positioned on the wearer. This new bikini-type bathing suit top, or brassiere, comprises an elongate, generally dumbbell-shaped plastic -strip 2 that has enlarged ends 3 and 4 which are adapted to cover and engage the breasts of the wearer. This plastic film strip 2 has a relatively narrow center section extending between the enlarged ends 3 and 4 which center section is adapted to be looped around the back of the wearers neck whereby the enlarged ends 3 and 4 Will extend down to the lower surface of the wearers 3,276,449 Patented Oct. 4, 1966 breasts and can be engaged therewith to support and cover the breasts, as hereinafter outlined in more detail.
So as t-o permit the support of the wearers breasts by the strap 2, strips or layers of pressure sensitive adhesive are provided on the lower portions of these ends 3 and 4. Thus, preferably a flexible paper strip or tape 5 is provided and a layer of a conventional pressure sensitive adhesive 6 and 7 is provided on each face of this flexible paper tape 5. The layers 6 and 7 can be of any suitable thickness such `as about l mil. The adhesive layer 6 is shown as attaching the paper tape 5 to the enlarged end 3 of the plastic film or strip 2. Usually this adhesive layer is attached to the axially outer end or edge portion of the plastic film strip 2 so that when the film strip 2 is looped around the wearers neck, the layers of adhesive will be below the wearers breasts and Will be extending more or less across the wearers body. These paper tapes 5 may be of any suitable length and may extend arcuately to follow the lower surface of the breast.
It will be realized that this plastic film strip 2 can be made from any suitable material, such as a substantially transparent polyvinyl chloride plastic material or similar substance. The plastic lm can be of any suitable thickness, such as about l or 2 mils, and normally the plastic film would be transparent, or substantially so. Naturally the film strip 2 is made of such length as to extend around the wearers neck and just down to the lower portions of the wearers breasts. lf desired, in some instances, the enlarged ends 3 and 4 can have slight pleats or folds formed therein to aid in forming more or less pockets at the ends of the article 1.
If desired, when the self-adhesive bathing suit top, or similar article 1 of the invention is made, it. may be desirable to provide a removable cover layer 8 over the adhesive layer 7. Thus, any suitable type of a release sheet or strip can be removably attached to the adhesive layer 7. If desired, a paper strip having a conventional polymerized silicone release layer thereon can be attached to the exposed surface of each of the paper tape strips 5 that are attached to opposite ends of the new article of the invention on the inner face or surface thereof. The outer layers of the adhesive, layers 7, as shown in the drawings, then will be available for attachment to the skin of the wearer for attaching the self-adhesive brassiere of the invention to the wearer.
After the brassiere of the invention has been worn once, it either can be discarded, or it can be folded over upon itself without direct contact between the adhesive layers 7 so that the brassiere can be worn again. Thus, if the adhesive layer 7 is not tightly pressed against the plastic iilm strip 2, it normally can be conveniently separated therefrom. These pressure sensitive layers of adhesive are made of conventional materials and can be applied to the plastic strip in any desired manner. In some instances, it may be desired to just affix the layer 6 of pressure sensitive adhesive directly to the plastic film enlarged ends 3 and 4 and then, if desired, the release layer 8, or equivalent, could be directly attached to this adhesive layer 6 and the use of the paper tape 5 could be avoided.
It will be realized that the brassiere of the invention can be worn underneath a bathing suit, if desired, and that the wearers breasts will be supported nicely by the brassiere o'f the invention by the loop of the brassiere extending over the wearers neck. Also, if the article of the invention is made from an opaque material, the article can be used as a self-adhesive bikini-type bathing suit top wherein the wearers breasts are covered and supported by this bathing suit top which will remain in good engagement with the wearer even though the wearer dives into the water or takes other action, because of the improved support action provided by the vertically upwardly extending portions of the elongate center section of the plastic strip 2. Thus it is believed that a novel and improved article has been provided by the invention and that the objects thereof have been achieved.
While one complete embodiment of `the invention has been disclosed herein, it will be appreciated that modification of this particular embodiment of the invention may be resorted to without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
