Description

P 3, 1966 G. FELTGEN 3,272,479
TOOL
Filed July 51, 1964 FIG-2 HHHHHHIHI! I FIG-3 United States Patent 3,272,479 TOOL Gerard Feltgen, 6908 Fairfax Road, Bethesda, Md. Filed July 31, 1964, Ser. No. 386,795 8 Claims. (Cl. 259--73) The invention relates to a device of which a suggested practical purpose is to provide a painter with a hand-tool with which he can easily and thoroughly mix paint in cans of the one gallon size.
The tool is composed of three items which are made of steel or other suitable material, they are then fabricated into one whole unit.
FIG. 1 is a front view showing the pivot 1, the cradle 2, and the handle 3.
FIG. 2 is a side view of the tool.
FIG. 3 is the bottom view.
FIG. 4 is another side view with a container in its cradle showing motion as applied manually.
A container, holding liquids or solids in a mixable form, like paint, chemicals, powders, granules, etc., is held in the rigid cradle 2 at a position between the pivot point 1 and the opposite end of the tool-the handle 3.
In operation, the closed container with the material that is to be mixed is placed in the cradle. The pivot tip is set on any suitable surface and manual force is applied at the handle end of the tool. This leverlike manual force makes it possible to shake the contents of the cont ainer to a variable degree, at the will of the operator, in any direction radially or circumferentially in a position away from the pivot point.
What I claim is:
1. A device for facilitating the manual agitation of liquid containers such as paint cans and the like comprising a cradle for holding the container in a generally horizontal position, a support rigidly connected to and projecting from the bottom of the cradle, said support having means at its lower end adapting it to accommodate substantial universal pivotal movement of said support and cradle about the lower end of said support, and an actuator arm fixed to and projecting upwardly from said cradle whereby said actuator arm may be manipulated to impart rapid oscillatory pivotal motion to said entire device and any container resting in said cradle about an axis through the lower end of said support to thereby agitate the contents of such a container.
2. The device defined in claim 1 wherein said actuator arm and said support are substantially coaxially aligned axially elongated members.
3. The device defined in claim 2 wherein said cradle has an upwardly facing concave segmental cylindrical surface the axis of which is at least substantially normal to the axis of said arm and support.
4. The device defined in claim 3 wherein said cradle has stop means at one end adapted to be engaged by one end of a container to be agitated and to thereby establish the position of such container axially of said cradle, said stop means being positioned from the axis of said arm and support a distance substantially equal to one-half of the standard height of a container having an outside radius approximately equal to the radius of curvature of said cradle so that the center of such a container will be located substantially on the axis of said support and arm.
5. The device defined in claim 1 wherein said arm comprises a rigid metal bar formed with a loop at its lower end embracing said cradle.
6. The device defined in claim 5 wherein said support comprises a downwardly projecting rigid pin fixed at its upper end to said loop.
7. The device defined in claim 1 wherein said adapting means comprises a rounded bottom end surface of said support.
8. The device defined in claim 7 wherein said rounded end surface of said support is a segmental substantially spherical surface whereby universal pivotal motion may be imparted to said device.

Claims (1)
