G. F. SIMONDS.
DEVIGE FOR INSERI'ING AND WITHDRAWING REMOVABLE SAW TEETH. No. 326,683. Patented Sept. 22, 1885.
Zfliinesses Inventor UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE F. SIMONDS, OF FITCHBURG, MASSACHUSETTS.
DEVICE FOR lNSERTlNG AND WITHDRAWING REMOVABLE SAW-TEETH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 326,683, dated September 22, 1885. Application filed April 22, 1885. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE F. SIMONDS, of Fitchburg, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved WVrench for Setting and Withdrawing Removable Saw-Teeth; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to. the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a view of the wrench applied preparatory to inserting the removable gullet. Fig. 2 is a view of the wrench as it appears when the tooth is set ready for cutting. Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view through saw-plate, tooth, and wrench on line was of Fig. 2.
My invention relates to tools for setting and withdrawing removable saw-teeth, and especially the character of tooth described and claimed by me in an application for improved saw-teeth, filed of even date herewith, and has for its object to provide a tool for removing and setting interchangeable portions of circular saws without necessitating holes or openings in such interchangeable portions.
My invention consists in a vise, combined with a lever, designed to be attached rigidly to the removable gullet or point, by which the same can be readily placed in position or removed from the saw.
In order that those skilled in the art may make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the exact manner in which I have carried it out.
In the said drawings, G is a portion of a saw-plate, showing the recess for one toothpoint and removable gullet, such as is described in my application for patent filed of even date herewith. The removable gullet F is clamped between jaws A and B of a vise composed of said jaws, moving freely on a screw, 0, provided with a longitudinal spline, d, resting in coincident grooves e e in jaws A B. A hand-nut, D, on the threaded end of 0 serves to set the jaws against the removable piece and hold it rigidly. The inner faces of jaws A B may be serrated to more securely hold to the gullet For other removable piece. One of the jaws of the vise-in this instance jaw A-is prolonged into a lever, E, to turn the vise and engaged gullet.
The operation is as follows: The gullet F is clamped in the vise, as shown in the figures,
movement of the lever, (see Fig. 1,) and as the movement progresses to the proper point the tooth is interlocked in the irregularities for the purpose, and the two pieces are forced into the recess and home, and the point is ready for cutting, and the wrench is detached.
The removal of the gullet is effected by exactly the reverse operation.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a tool for fixing and detaching the removable portions of saws, a vise or positive clamping device to seize the removable portion, in combination with a lever attached to the vise, to move it and the removable portion simultaneously, for the purpose set forth.
2. A tool for removing saw-teeth. consisting of the combination of lever E. jaws A B. provided with grooves e e, screw (1. provided with spline d, and hand-nut D. all constructed and arranged as set forth.
