Description

July 12, 1966 A. DUNAJEW 3,260,006
CARD CLIP Filed Dec. 15, 1963 2 Sheets-Sheet l INVENTOR.
ANATOLY buNAsew AT TOENE-(S United States Patent 3,260,066 CARD CLIP Anatoly Dunajew, Haleden, N.J., assignor to Dunmar Products, Inc., a corporation of New Jersey Filed Dec. 13, 1963, Ser. No. 330,276 2 Claims. ((Ji. 40 -124) This invention relates to a clip for index or other information cards, or the like, and it is a general object of the invention to provide a clip of highly simplified form. Another object is to provide a clip which is possessed of versatility, and endowed with efliciency.
More particularly, it is an object to provide a card clip capable of formation in a simple stamping operation, from a single blank.
It is also among the objects to provide a card clip which is easy of manufacture, low in cost, and rugged and durable in use.
These and other objects, which will be apparent, are attained by the present invention, a preferred form of which is described in the following specification, as illustrated in the drawing, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of an index mount employing clips constructed according to the invention;
FIGURE 2 is a central, vertical, sectional view taken on the line 22 of FIGURE 1;
FIGURE 3 is a sectional view of a detail through one clip and card, taken on the plane of the line 3-3 of FIG- URE 2;
FIGURE 4 is a view similar to FIGURE 3, but taken on the line 4-4 of FIGURE 2;
FIGURE 5 is a bracketed view, in perspective, of a clip and a card, shown in exploded form;
FIGURE 6 is a top plan view of the clip of FIGURE 5;
FIGURE 7 is a perspective view of a modified index amount, employing the novel clips, and
FIGURE 8 is a front, elevational view of the mount of FIGURE 7, as seen from the lower left of that figure.
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference there is shown, in FIGURE 1, a rotating, index card mount, of wood or other suitable material, comprising a base 10, a pair of side walls 12, trapezoidal as shown, and a central drum 14, having trunnions 16, journalled in bores in side walls 12, and secured by external, cylindrical nuts 18. Drum 14 has a central, raised collar 20, surrounded by a close-fitting, metal band 22, which juts beyond the collar at each side edge thereof. The card clips are mounted on and ride this band, as a rail.
The construction of the clip will be apparent from several of the views, but particularly FIGURE 5, wherein the unit, of spring steel, bronze or other suitable material, is seen as comprising a planiform, main body 24, of generally rectangular construction, but having chamfered, outer corners 26, and an inner, stem-like, central projection 28, also rectangular. At the two ends of body 24 are legs 30, which are arranged at right angles to the body and are bent into a sinuous form, of one and onehalf convolutions or cycles, so as to provide inwardly directed concavities 32, which serve to resiliently grip "ice which the inner card edge dwells, to stabilize it against tilting.
It will be seen that the cards are held steady, against removal, and against skewing, by the clip, and that the latter is freely movable along band 22, which constitutes a freedom of adjusting movement, in addition to rotation of the drum and its band.
The clip can be made in any size, to fit any card, business, index, or other, without sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
FIGURES 7 and 8 illustrate an alternative use, wherein the mount comprises a fiat, base plate 38, with a T-form central rib, 40, which corresponds to the collar and band in the FIGURE 2 form, and which receives the clip in the same manner as do those items. This form is, of course, useful in certain cases, as inside the drawers of the card index of a library, for instance.
It will be seen that not only are the cards easily mounted on or removed from the clips, but also that the latter are as easily mounted on or removed from the T holder.
While a certain, preferred embodiment has been shown and described, various modifications will be apparent, in the light of this disclosure, and the invention should not, therefore, be deemed as limited, except insofar as shall appear from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A holder for card-type clip finder systems, comprising a mount of T-form cross-section including a crossarm having opposed ends, a card clip having spring legs projecting laterally away from a side thereof and adapted to snap over the ends of the cross-arms, a central tab extending between and in the same direction as said legs for engagement with said cross-arm intermediate said ends thereof, and card-holding means carried on said clip, said card-holding means comprising a central S-form spring tabs struck from said clip, and an outer tab struck from said clip at opposed ends thereof, said S and outer tabs being adapted to support the bottom edge of said card.
2. A holder for card-type finder systems, comprising a mount of T-form cross-section including a cross-arm having opposed ends, a card-clip having a planiform main body including an opposed pair of ends, said main body portion having a central tab projecting laterally therefrom intermediate said ends, said card-clip including a spring leg at each end, respectively, of said main body portion, said legs projecting laterally from said main body portion in the same direction as said tab with said tab being disposed therebetween, said legs being flat, sinuous and of greater length than said tab, said legs being adapted to snap over the ends of the cross-arm of said T with said tab engaging said cross-arm intermediate the ends thereof, means on said main body portion for holding a card, said last-named means comprising a central S-form spring tab struck from said main body portion centrally of said ends thereof, and an outer tab struck from said main body portion, said S-form spring tab and said outer tabs being adapted to engage and support the bottom edge of a card.
