UNITED STATES PATENT EFICE.
MONT SPAULDING, OF ORLEANS, MICHIGAN.
FARM-WAGON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 325,455, dated September 1, 1885.
Application filed J une 2, 1885.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MONT SPAULDING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Orleans, in the county of Ionia and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Farm-WVagons; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a side view of the wagon, the body being lowered; Fig. 2,a similar view, the body being raised. Fig. 3 is a plan view; Fig. 4, ascction on line at m, Fig. 3; Fig. 5, a detail.
This invention relates to wagons, more particularly those drawn on three wheels; and theinvention consists in the construction hereinafter set forth.
In the annexed drawings, the letter Aindieates a wagoirbod y made of any suitable shape and construction. At the front this body has a circular opening, a. Sprung over this opening is an arch, b, lengthwise of the wagon-body and over the diameter of said opening a, such arch being secured by bolts 1). J ournaled in the apex of this arch is a fork, B, in the legs 6 b" of which are series of coincident holes b Placedin the opening aisa circle, 0, having the rim 0 and parallel cross-bars c c. This circle snugly fits the opening a, and the fork B comes between these bars 0' 0, to which it is secured at the bottom. In this position the fork straddles the wheel D, the journal (Z of which passes through the coinciding holes of the legs I) b. Fastened to the circle 0 are the tongue'hounds d d.
(No model.)
To the rear of the wagon is secured the rectangular frame, consisting of the cross-bars e e and the end bars, ee'. Secured at each side of the wagon and to these end bars are the posts f f and g g, forming two pairs. These posts have the coincident holes h, in which are held the journals f g of the hind wheels, F and G, these wheels being thus held in the spaces between the body and the end bars, 6 e, such bars forming fenders for the wheels.
This construction forms a light structure particularly adapted for farm use. The body can be raised or lowered and placed at different heights.
Having described my invention, what I claim is 1. The body A, having the opening a, the arch I), having the coincident holes b 6 the fork B, the circle 0, and the wheel 1), all combined as set forth.
2. The body A, the rectangular frame con sisting of the cross-bars e e and the end bars, 6 e, and the posts f f g having the coincident holes h h, in combination with the wheels F and G, as set forth.
3. The wagon-body A, having the opening a, the arch b, the fork B, having the coincident holes I) b, and the wheel D, in combination with the bars 6 e e e and the posts ff 9 9, having the holes 72, coincident, as set forth, and the wheels F and G, all constructed and arranged as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature inpresence of two witnesses.
MONT SPAULDING.
