Description
May 10, 1966 H. BEHR ETAL SCAFFOLD 2 Sheets-Sheet 1 Filed June 30, 1964 Invenfors: M
May 10, 1966 H. BEHR ETAL SCAFFOLD 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Filed June 30, 1964 Inventors United States Patent Office 3,250,345 Patented May 10, 1966 4 Claims. 61. 182-113) The present invention relates to an operating platform, particularly for walling of converters and similar metal lurgical vessels and ovens, the operating area of which can be varied corresponding with the changing diameter of the converter or other vessel.
, The present invention serves the purpose of creating an operating platform of such type, in which the variation of the working area can take place particularly rapidly and simply and which is designed stabile and safe against accidents.
It is one object of the present invention to provide an operating platform, particularly for walling of converters and similar metallurgical vessels and ovens, wherein the platform can be enlarged 'by means of brackets and flags covering the brackets, whereby the latter are equipped with hooks for retaining the hooks of the brackets on bolts provided on the connecting part of the platform and the previous bracket member, respectively.
With this and other objects in view, which will become apparent in the following detailed description, the present invention will be clearly understood in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIGURE 1 is an elevation, partly in section, of an immovable operating platform having a plurality of bracket members;
FIG. 2 is a front perspective view of a bracket member including a cover sheet;
FIG. 3 is a section along the lines 33 of FIG. 1, the cover sheets being inserted, at an enlarged scale;
FIG. 4 is a fragmentary perspective view of an operating platform, shown at an enlarged scale;
FIG. 5 is a section similar to that shown in FIG. 3, in dicating the means for locking together the cover sheets;
FIG. 6 is a top plan view of the arrangement disclosed in FIG. 5; and
FIG. 7 is a section along the lines 7-7 of FIG. 5.
Referring now to the-drawings, and in particular to FIG. 1, a platform 1 for the walling of a converter is disclosed, which paltform 1 is supposed to be supported by a stage (not shown) and which platform 1 must be insertable through the bottom opening of the converter. Since the diameter of the converter is larger above its bottom opening, it is required to enlarge the platform 1 upon insertion thereof into the converter. For this purpose, bracket members 2- are suspended with their hooks 3 from a bolt 4 provided on the platform 1, such that the bracket members 2 support themselves with their lower part on the platform 1. Additional brackets 5 and 6 follow the brackets 2. Each of the brackets 2, 5 and 6 has a bolt 8 for suspending the hook 3 of a next adjacent bracket.
Referring now again to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 2 and 3, the design of the brackets 2, 5 and 6 is more clearly disclosed. Each of the brackets comprises two Walls 9 and 10 having a free space 11 therebetween.
The hook 3 is secured between the walls 9 and 10. The bolt 4 is secured close to the end of the bracket 2 disposed opposite the hook 3. The walls 9 and 10 are connected at their lower edges by means of angle members 12. Cover sheets 13 are inserted into the free space 11 between the hook 3 and the bolt 8 with their bent-over head ends 13', so that the cover sheets 13 and the brackets 2, 5 and 6 are secured against lateral displacement. The trapezoidshaped covering sheets 13 have, as can be ascertained from FIG. 4, different lengths, and in particular, the outer sheet is longer than the adjacent inner sheet. The distance of the bores 15, provided at the outer edge of the platform 1, adapted for the securing of a foot ledge, changes with the length of the covering sheets 13. In order to adjust the length of the foot ledge to the length of the covering sheets 13 and to the distance of the bores 15, the foot ledge comprises tubes 16, 17, 18 and 19, of which the tubes 16 and 17, as well as the tubes 18 and 1S! telescope relative to each other. The pipes 16 and 17 are connected with the pipes 18 and 19 by connecting members 20. Pipe branches 21, to be inserted into the bores 15, are welded to the pipes 18 and 19.
The covering sheets 13 are suitably locked together at their front faces, so that each enlarging ring forms a unit, from which no part can be released, without operation of a look. This locking can be brought about in a manner disclosed in FIGS. 5-7. Locking -bolts'22 are slidably and rotatably mounted in supports 23 below the covering sheets 13. In order to bring about the locking, the locking bolt 22 is inserted through bores of the walls 9 and 10 and of the bent-over head ends 13' of the covering sheets 13. By rotation of the locking bolt 22, which is equipped with a cam extension 24, a non-intended return movement of the locking bolt 22 is prevented. Openings 25 are provided in the covering sheets 13, which make possible the displacement and rotation of the cam extensions 24.
The stage carrying the platform 1 can be equipped for rolling-thereof. The platform 1 itself is suitably of a polygonal shape, and it is to be understood that such shape includes also a circular shape.
While we have disclosed several embodiments of the present invention, it is to be understood that these embodiments are given by example only and not in a limiting sense, the scope of the present invention being determined by the objects and the claims.
We claim:
1. A device, particularly for the walling of converters and similar metallurgical vessels and ovens, comprising a platform adapted to be supported by a stage,
extension members increasing the working area of said platform and comprising brackets and cover plates for the latter suspendable radially from said platform,
each of said brackets having a hook,
said platform and said brackets, respectively, having connecting members complementary tosaid hooks for suspending said brackets from said platform and from said brackets, respectively, the latter already extending from said platform,
said brackets comprising two substantially parallel walls defining a free space therebetween,
said hooks of said brackets being disposed between said two walls, and
said connecting members comprising bolts supporting the complementary of hooks and disposed between two walls.
2. The device, as set forth in claim 1, wherein said cover plates have bent-over head parts disposed in said free space between said walls and extending be tween said hook and said bolt. 7
3. The device, as set forth in claim 1, which includes telescoping foot ledges secured to the outside of the outermost of said cover platee.
4. The device, as set forth in claim 1, wherein said platform is of polygonal shape, and said brackets extending ouwardly from said platform, and which includes means for locking together each pair of adjacent cover plates.
