I. H. KIZER.
TREE PROP.
No. 324,777. Patented Aug. 18, 1885.
UNrrnn a ne 1 IHN ENCE ISAAC HUESION KIZER, OF RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF TO RUSSELL PORTER VAITE, OF SAME PLACE.
TREE-PROP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 324,777, dated August 18, 1885.
Application filed May 18, 1c85.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC H. KIZER, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Riverside, in the county of San Bernardino and State of 5 California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Tree-Prop5 and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art 1o to which it appertains to make and use the same. p
The object of my invention is to speedily form asupport or prop for overload ed branches of fruit-trees; and it consists of the construction and combination of parts hereinafter set forth.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a view in perspective of a tree having my support or prop placed in position under one limb thereof. Fig. 2 is a view of the blank from which the fastening is formed,
and Fig. 3 a perspective View of the fastening or clamp for the arm of the support.
The main upright or support C is of wood of any desired width, thickness, and length. A is the fastening or clamp for holding the 3o arm B, and is'made of stout sheet metal cut into T-shaped blanks, with the lower end, c, sharpened or V-shaped, and the wings c rectangular and provided with holes b, as shown in Fig. 2.
The arm 'B is of wood-say from six to twelve inches in length, as requiredm-of the same width and thickness as the main support, and is beveled at one end to it against said support when in position.
In use, after ascertaining the height of the (No model.)
limb or the position for attaching the fastening or clamp to the main support, the sharp 01 Vshaped end of said fastening is bent at an angle, so that it can be driven into the face of one side of the support, the Wings are bent to suit the thickness of the same, and are attached to said support by nails driven through the holes b. This will form a fastening or clamp into which the arm 4B is fitted snugly, and, on account of its beveled end coming 5o against the main support, will be firmly braced therein. The support is then raised and placed in position under the limb as desired.
This is an inexpensive device, and one that can be readily used by any one, branches of trees or waste timber being utilized in connection with the fastening or clamp to make a ready support for overloaded branches or limbs of trees. t
Having thus described my invention, what 6o I claim, and desire to secure b y Letters Patent,
1. A fastening or clamp fortree-props, consisting of a vertical portion, V-shaped at its lower end, bent so as to be driven into a sup 65 port, and rectangular perforated wings bent to embrace the support, substantially as described.
2. The combination of the main support O, provided with the bent fastening orl clamp A, 7o having perforated wings a, with the arm B, substantially as described, for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ISAAC HUESTON KIZERL Witnesses:
E. CONWAY, JOHN EnwARDs.
