Description

March 29, 1966 D. E. BLOK PANELED BUILDING STRUCTURE Filed June 12, 1963 FIG.2
INVENTOR Dirk Ev r- B/Ok BWIQMWM ATTORNEYS Uni ed t s w O 2 Claims. ((31. 52-478 The invention relates to a method for the manufacture of a wall, roof, ceiling or like construction or for a lining therefor, comprising stringers provided with projections and recesses and panels, lamellae or like elements having bent lonigtudinal rims and arranged in said recesses and to a wall, roof, ceiling or like construction or to a lining therefor.
In the case of walls, roofs, ceiling, awnings and similar constructions or linings therefor the panels, lamellae or like elements are, so far, clamped independently of each other into the recesses or onto the projections of the stringers. As a consequence thereof these known constructions present the disadvantage that there are gaps between the rims of the successive lamellae.
The invention aims at avoiding this disadvantage by arranging the panels, lamellae or like elements in such manner that the rims thereof are in engagement with each other and are in contact with each other. This is accomplished with the method according to the invention in that around the bent rim of a panel, lamella or like element arranged in one of the recesses of the stringers one bent rim of a following panel, lamella or like element is hooked, and that into the other bent rim of said panel, lamella or like element one of the rims of a following panel, lamella or like element is hooked whereupon the rims which are in engagement with each other are simultaneously pressed into their position around the corresponding projection and in the corresponding recess. The panels, lamellae or like elements located on the projections are thereby not clamped onto said projections but the bent rims of said panels, lamellae or like elements are clampingly held by the bent rims of the adjacent panels, lamellae or like elements clamped into the recesses. By this clamping action a scaling is obtained between the bent rims of the panels, lamellae or like elements.
The invention further relates to a stringer for such a wall or roof, such a ceiling or a like construction or for a lining therefor, said stringer being characterized in that the recesses therein each serve for clamping a panel, lamella or like element, the projections being so dimensioned that on said projections no identical panels or like elements can be clamped. Whilst in the case of the known stringers the upper ends of the projections are so shaped that they fit into the recesses, according to the present invention the upper ends are smaller.
The invention will be explained below with reference to the accompanying drawings showing by way of example an embodiment of part of a wall or like construction according to the invention.
FIG. 1 shows this embodiment in perspective.
FIG. 2 shows a longitudinal section thereof.
The construction shown in the drawings comprises a U-shaped stringer 1 provided with recesses 2 and projections 3. In the recesses 2 panels 4 with bent rims are clampingly secured so that they are firmly held in place.
The projections 3 have a smaller surface than the crosssection of a panel 4 On account of the fact that the corners thereof have been somewhat cut away. As a consequence thereof these projections 3 cannot hold any panels 4 in their position and the latter are lying loosely on said projections if no panels 4 have been placed in the recesses 2.
As is apparent from the drawings the bent rims 5 of the panels 4 arranged on the projections 3 engage with the bent rims 6 of the panels 4 clamped in the recesses 2 so that the panels arranged on the projections 3 are firmly held in place.
If a panel would be located in each of two successive recesses it would not be possible to arrange a panel on the projection 3 between said two recesses. In order to be able also to arrange panels on the projections 3 one bent rim of the panel to be arranged on a projection 3 is hooked, as shown in FIG. 2, around the bent rim of the panel clamped in the recess adjacent to said projection. Thereupon the other bent rim of the panel to be mounted on said projection is hooked around one of the bent rims of the panel which has to be clamped in the other recess adjacent to said projection. The other rim of the lastmentioned panel 4 is brought into the last-mentioned recess. Thereafter both panels are pressed into place.
It is obvious that the invention is not restricted to the embodiment described above and shown in the drawings but that it may be modified in many ways without departing from the scope of the invention. The stringers 1, of which only one is shown in the drawings, may have instead of a U-shaped or substantially U-shaped cross-section also another cross-section, and the projections may comprise recesses 7. The shape of the bent rims of the panels may also be a different one etc.
I claim:
1. A paneled building structure such as a wall, roof, ceiling and a lining therefor, comprising a plurality of identical channel-shaped metal panels having bent longitudinal rims and metal stringers provided with alternate projections and recesses, said panels being arranged on said projections and in said recesses alternately opening in opposite directions, said recesses having curved portions having substantially the same shape as the bent longitudinal rims of said panels, each of said recesses clampingly holding a panel, the bent longitudinal rims of the panels arranged on the projections grippingly engaging the bent longitudinal rims of the panels arranged in the recesses, the projections having a height suificient to support the panels arranged thereon and to clamp the edges of the bent longitudinal rims of the panels arranged thereon against the inner side of the bent longitudinal rims of the panels clampingly arranged in the recesses.
2. A paneled building structure such as a wall, roof, ceiling and a lining therefor, comprising a pluarlity of identical channel-shaped metal panels having bent longitudinal rims and at least two metal stringers provided with alternate projections and recesses, said panels being arranged on said projections and in said recesses alternately facing in opposite directions, said recesses having curved portions of substantially the same shape as the bent longitudinal rims of the panels, each of said recesses clampingly holding a panel, the projections of the stringers having a smaller width than the recesses, the bent longitudinal rims of the panels arranged on the projections gripping into the bent longitudinal rims of the panels arranged 3 4 in the recesses, the projections having a sufiicient height 2,830,334 4/1958 Schroyer '2057.5 to support the panels arranged thereon to clamp the edges 3,015,135 1/ 1962 Dean et al. 20-575 of the bent lonigtudinal rims of the panels arranged on the projections against the inner side of the bent longitudinal FOREIGN PATENTS rims of the panels clampingly arranged in the recesses. 5 594,202 3/1960 Canada 2 2 References Cited by the Examiner 8 8/1956 France UNITED STATES PATENTS CHARLES E.
