PICKLE DISPLAY BARREL ASSEMBLY Filed Feb. '7, 1964 whim 1; (a a awk 4| 5021; 1i PMWAES PROPARTY OF LA 00 3 DEPOSIT $10 INVENTOR. George Lodinsky United States Patent 3,237,334 PICKLE DISPLAY BARREL ASSEMBLY George Ladinsky, 1466 Canfield Ave., Apt. 3, Los Angeles, Calif. Filed Feb. 7, 1964, Ser. No. 343,322 4 Claims. (Cl. 40307) This invention relates to display apparatus and, more particularly, to a display unit for advertising, dispensing, and selling pickles in stores, supermarkets, and the like.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an attractive, highly suggestive promotional pickle display barrel unit, for increasing pickle sales in various outlets, such as markets, stores, supermarkets, and the like, which is appealing, neat, attractive, and eaisly handled.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a pickle display barrel assembly which includes a pickle barrel, a closure for the top thereof, an upstanding display sign, and an interlocked paper bag dispenser receptacle, all of which are readily assembled, neat, sanitary, and attractive in use.
Still an additional object of the present invention is to provide a pickle display barrel assembly of the aforementioned type which can be manufactured at a relatively low cost, for widespread distribution and use in all types of available outlets.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein:
FIGURE 1 is a front elevational view, with parts broken away, of a pickle display barrel assembly made in accordance with the present invention;
'FIGURE 2 is an enlarged fragmentary side elevational view of the display unit shown in FIGURE 1;
FIGURE 3 is a front plan vertically exploded view of the assembly shown in FIGURES l and 2; and
FIGURE 4 is a top plan view of a panel closure assembly forming a part of the present invention.
Referring now to the drawing, a pickle barrel display assembly made in accordance with the present invention is shown to include an erect barrel 12 having an open top, upon which a panel is mounted.
The panel, which is of slightly larger diameter than the top of the barrel 12, includes a substantially semicircular stationary portion 14 havnig hinges 16, upon which another substantially semi-circular closure portion 18 is hingedly mounted, for providing access to the interior of the barrel 12 in a convenient manner. The stationary portion 14 of the panel includes a set of four parallel slots 20 for slidably receiving a corresponding number of depending legs 22 of a rectangular frame 26, having a lower bar 24 and an indicia display panel 28 mounted upon the forwardly facing side thereof.
The display panel 28 may be painted, decorated, or in any other desired way, illustrated to promote the sale of the pickles. Such may include a description of the product, name, price, etc.
A paper bag receptacle 28, for dispensing small paper bags for packaging the pickles, includes a rearwardly directed flange 30 with an upstanding terminal web 32 which defines a substantially channel shaped portion 33 receiving the lower bar 24 of the rectangular frame 26. The flange 30 is received in the space between the two pairs of depending legs 22, whereby the dispenser receptacle 28 is virtually locked in position upon the top of the stationary portion 14 of the closure panel, between the top surface thereof and the lower bar 24 of the frame 3,237,334 Patented Mar. 1, 1966 ice The stationary portion 14 of the closure panel is also provided with an aperture 34, through which flexible tubing 36 is threaded and secured by means of a knot or fastener 38. A pair of tongs 40 are secured to the opposite end of the tubing 36, for use by customers in removing pickles from the barrel for insertion into a paper bag taken from the receptacle 28.
It will now be recognized that a complete and effective display unit has been provided for promoting the sale of pickles in a highly novel and attractive manner. The name of the pickle company or distributor may be permanently placed upon the front of the barrel, such as by stenciling, burning, or the like. Such identification 41 not only promotes the brand name of the product, but ensures return of the equipment to the owner.
The closure panel 14 may be secured to the top of the barrel 12, such as by spring clips, fasteners, or the like, so as to be readily removable for replacing the barrel portion 12, cleaning, and the like.
For sanitation and appearance purposes, the barrel can be constructed of the usual oak staves, but stainless steel is used for all metallic parts, including the bands, tongs, mountings, and the like. The pickles can be in brine, wrapped or bagged.
While this invention has been described with particular reference to the construction shown in the drawing, it is to be understood that such is not to be construed as imparting limitations upon the invention, which is best defined by the claims appended hereto.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A pickle display barrel assembly comprising, in combination, an erect barrel having an open top, a panel mounted upon said top of said barrel, said panel having closure means providing access to the interior of said barrel, a display sign upstanding from and carried by said panel, and a paper bag dispenser secured upon said panel by said display sign.
2. A pickle display barrel assembly as set forth in claim 1, wherein said panel comprises a substantially circular disc having one stationary portion for flat face engagement with said top of said barrel, and said closure means comprises another portion of said disc hingedly carried by said one stationary portion for pivotal movement between a normally closed and an open position.
3. A pickle display barrel assembly as set forth in claim 2, wherein said display sign comprises a substantially rectangular frame having indicia means mounted thereupon, and a set of legs depending from said frame, said stationary portion of said disc having apertures for receiving said legs to secure said display sign in an erect position.
4. A pickle display barrel assembly as set forth in claim 3, wherein said paper bag dispenser comprises an upwardly opening receptacle having a rearwardly directed flange with an upwardly extending terminal web defining a channel shaped portion for receiving a lower portion of said rectangular frame therewithin to lock said dispenser upon said stationary portion of said panel.
