G. S. BEEBE.
TWO WHEELED VEHICLE. No. 323.257. T Patented July 28, 1885.
Wi/nesses: Znueni an' Mg f MM ffrne ys.
Uminn STATES ArnNr F F ICEO TWO-WHEELED VEHICLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 323,257, dated July 28, 1885.
Application filed November 12, 1884. (N0 model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES S. BEEBE, of Racine, in the county of Racine, and in the State of \Visconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Road-Carts; and I do hereby declare that the following isafull, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention is an improvement on a road cart for which Letters Patent No. 292,277 were granted to me January 22, 1884; and its object is to prevent jarring from the motion of the cart-body, as will be more fully described hereinafter.
The drawing represents an under side plan view of a cart-body fitted with my improved device.
A is the cart-body; B, the side bars; 0, the springs; D, the shafts, and D the axle. The side bars, 13, are connected about their center by a transverse rod, E, and at their rear end by a similar rod, F. These rods E F are each supported by swinging arms E F, straddling the side bars at points corresponding with their position in reference to the rods E F. The body A rests on these rods, being secured in place thereon by means of the staples g g, fastened in the under side of the body.
As described in the specification forming part of the Letters Patent above mentioned, rubber washers G may be interposed between the arms E F and the body of the cart to prevent jarring caused on uneven roads by the side motion of the said body; but I prefer to use in connection with these washers or without them the coil-springs H, and these are mounted on the rod E, as shown, with their outer ends abutting against the inner edges of the'staples g g, and their inner ends being held in position by the pins h h passing through the said rod.
Instead of the coil-springs H, I may use other forms of springs suitably fastened to the body of the cart and to the arms, so as to work in substantially the same manner. I may also vary the mode of mounting the same without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is
1. I11 a road-cart having its body supported on transverse rods depending from swinging arms of the side bars, coil-springs mounted on the supporting-rods between the staples connecting the same to the body of the cart and stop-pins of the rods, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a road-cart, in combination with the body A, side bars, B, having swinging arms E F, rods E F, staples g g, and pins h h, the rubber washers G G, and coilsprings H H, substantially as shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoingI have hereunto set my hand, at Racine, in the county of Racine and State of Visconsin, in the presence of two witnesses.
