PORTABLE HYDRAULIC LIFTING DEVICE Filed Feb. 14, 1964 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 INVENTORY mm, R 50 BY 5/// F2 5 United States Patent 3,232,464 PDRTABLE HYDRAULIC LIFTING DEVICE Keith R. Bogh and Billy R. Bogh, both of Rte. 5, Le Mars, Iowa Filed Feb. 14, 1964, Ser. No. 344,915 1 Claim. (Cl. 214-512) Our invention relates to a portable lifting device.
An object of our invention is to provide a flat lifting and carrying device upon which any device or implement can be driven, and which thereby will be raised by bydraulic or mechanical means, or a combination of both, and which device includes wheels journalled thereon so that the said implement, etc. can be transported.
A further object of our invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple to operate and also includes certain locking features.
With these and other objects in view, our invention consists in the construction, arrangement, and combination of the various parts of our device, whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in our claim, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a plan view of the device,
FIGURE 2 is a side elevation of FIGURE 1,
FIGURE 3 is a rear view of FIGURE 1,
FIGURE 4 is an enlarged sectional view taken generally along the lines 44 of FIGURE 1,
FIGURE 5 is a side elevation showing the locking arrangement,
FIGURE 6 is a sectional detail,
FIGURE 7 is a portion of a modification, and
FIGURE 8 is a schematic hydraulic circuit.
In describing our invention we have used the character 10 to designate side members which are attached to the forwardly converging members 11, the character 12 indicating an extended tongue member, the characters 13 and 14 indicating further transverse members, and attached across the members 10 are the further transverse supports 15 upon which supports are secured the planks 16.
Attached to the members 10 are the straps 17 which are attached (see FIGURE 6) to the angularly positioned lengthened plates 18. The character 19 indicates a suitable hand operated hydraulic jack which is operated by means of the lever 20, the jack having the base portion 21 which will travel downwardly in the direction of the arrow 22 to raise the forward end of the unit, and the further end 23 of the unit is usually attached to the hydraulic draw-bar of a tractor which can be raised or lowered as desired to thereby raise the front end of the unit.
The character 24 indicates posts attached to the members 10 and pivoted at 25 to these posts are the members 26, and journalied at the ends of the members 26 are the wheels 27, and the members 26 continue into the further portions 28 which continue into the further integral transverse portion 29, and pivoted at 3% to the member 29 is a piston rod 31 which is attached to a suitable piston received in the hydraulic cylinder 33 which is pivoted at 34 to the rear of the member 14. The character 35 indicates bracing members.
Connected to the cylinder 33 is a suitable hose connection 36 which passes to the hydraulic system of the tractor and which is arranged to force the piston rod 31 outwardly when required.
When it is desired to operate the unit, first the implement is driven over the sloping surfaces 18 onto the platform and the hydraulic system is actuated, and the piston rod 31 will be forced outwardly which will correspond- 3,232,464 Patented Feb. 1, 1966 ingly force the various members 26, 28 and 29 to the dotted position of FIGURE 4, whereby the wheels 27 will bear against the ground due to the pivoting action at 25, which will completely raise the rear end of the unit, and ready for being transported. The front end is raised as explained and in certain cases where required, if the hydraulic draw bar is not available the front end can be raised by means of the hand operated jack member 19.
The hydraulic pressure maintained in the circuit will keep the unit in raised position, although we have further provided the locking arrangement shown in FIGURE 5 wherein the curved bars 37 are pivoted at 38 to the portions 28, a transverse rod 39 being attached to the members 37, the character 40 indicating a pair of stop pins which will lock the members 37 so that the unit will be held in the raised position even though a hose, etc. may break.
FIGURES 7 and 8 illustrate a further modification wherein the front end 23 is attached to a hydraulic jack 41 operated by a suitable hose connection at 42, the character 43 indicating the base of the jack operated by the piston rod 44 and the piston 45, and in this type of unit the front end can be raised by hydraulic means connection to the hydraulic pipe line 36 through the T-connection 46, the valve 47 permitting independent operation of the jack 41. The character 48 indicates further hitching portions.
It will now be noted that we have provided the advantages mentioned in the objects of our invention with further advantages being apparent.
Some changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of the parts of our invention without departing from the real spirit and purpose of our invention, and it is our intention to cover by our claim any modified forms of structure or use of mechanical equivalents which may be reasonably included within their scope.
We claim as our invention:
A portable hydraulic lifting device comprising a flat horizontally positioned platform, a hydraulic lifting unit mounted at the rear of said platform, said hydraulic lifting unit including support posts attached to said platform, arms pivotally attached to said support posts, said arms including portions positioned co-planar with said arms and substantially at right angles thereto, wheels journalled at the outer ends of said arms, a transverse bar attached to the ends of said portions, a hydraulic cylinder pivotally attached to the rear of said platform, a piston rod operated by said cylinder, said piston rod being pivotally attached substantially medially of said transverse bar, whereby movement of said piston rod outwardly will raise said arms and lower said wheels to ground engaging position, to thereby raise said platform, sloping side members attached to said platform over which devices to be transported can be driven on to said platform, a hand operated hydraulic jack mounted at the forward end of said platform.
