To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE G. SGHROE- DER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Detachable Horseshoes, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to farriery, and has for its object the provision of a supplementary detachable horseshoe supplied with calks and clamping devices adapted to be adjusted to an ordinary shoe, and to be readily removed therefrom.

1n carrying out. my invention I provide a supplementary horseshoe of novel and peculiar construction, having means for firm adjustment to the ordinary hoof shoe, as illustrated in the drawings, and as hereinafter described, and specifically pointed out in the claims.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, in which like letters of reference point out similar parts on each figure, Figure 1 represents in perspective a shod hoof of a horse having a supplementary shoe attached thereto embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a cross-section on the line as m. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the inner or upper side of my supplementary shoe. Fig. 4 is a detached view of one of the clamps and of one of the calks.

In the drawings, A represents an ordinary horseshoe, in which the side of the inner curve preferably inclines from the bottom, as shown at a but this is not essential in applying my invention. The shoe A is attached in the usual manner.

Extending from the inner curve of the shoe B are project-ions b apertured, said apertures being screw-tapped to receive the shank of a screw-threaded elampin g device, as hereinafter described. The shoe B is also provided with apertures N, for reception of the stems c of the detachable calks G, which can be readily removed, when desired, by a punch.

D represents cam-headed clamps, having screw-threaded shanks d, as shown. Their heads 01 are countersunk for being turned by a screw-driver. The shanks d, in practice, are inserted within the apertures of the projections b It will be readily understood that when the shoe Bis adjusted upon the ordinary shoe, A,

supplementary shoe in position; and it is obvious that by unscrewing said clamps said supplementary shoe can be readily removed.

It will be observed from the drawings that the heads of the cams taper slightly toward their ends, and by this construction they are enabled; when screwed up a desired length, to be inserted between the upper surface of the shoe A and the yielding surface of the frog of the hoof, and thus secure loekin g devices equally as firm as if said cam-heads only impinged against the beveled edge of the shoe A, as hereinbefore described, either adaptation being entirely within the scope of my invention.

Having now fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-- 1. In a supplementary horseshoe having. removable ealks G, the inward projections provided with screw-threaded apertures, in combination with clamps having screwthreaded shanks to take into the apertures of said projections, said clamps being provided with cams at one end and being countersunk at the opposite end, as and for the purpose intended, substantially as described.

2. The combination of an ordinary horseshoe, A, with a supplementary detachable shoe having toe and heel flanges to prevent lateral displacement, and provided with inward projections supplied with cam-headed clamps having screw-threaded shanks inserted within screw-threaded apertures of said inward projections, as and for the purpose intended, substantially as described.

3. In a supplementary horseshoe, the clamping devices I), cam-shaped at one end and hav- PIS ing a screw-threaded shank countersunk at its opposite end, as and for the purpose intended, substantially as described.
