SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 322,277, dated July 14-, 1885.

To ctZZ whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, PETER GENDRON, of Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improve- 5 ments in Wheelbarrows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in the construction-of wheelbarrows; and the invention consists in the peculiar construction and combination of parts, as more fully hereinafter described.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of myimproved barrow as a railway-construction barrow. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same as an ordinary gardeubarrow.

In the accompanying drawings, which form 20 a part of this specification, A A represent the two side rails, converging toward the wheel B, for which the converging ends form the necessary bearings, while the diverging ends form the handles 0.

E are the legs, which are formed of loops of half-round iron, the free ends of which are secured to the under edges of the side rails.

F is the bottom board, which performs also the additional function of a tie-bar to connect 0 the side rails together. This board is provided with staples G, for the purpose hereinafter mentioned. The wheel is a wire wheel -rolling upon a rigid aXle, the ends of which are secured to the side rails.

H is a metallic dirt-boX of the usual form employed in making what are known as railway-construction barrows. This box is made of three pieces of metallic sheets, a, b, and 0, the former making the curved bottom and the two latter forming the front and rear ends, the interior edges of which underlap the front and rear edges of the bottom to which the ends are secured by riveting. To the ends of this box are rigidly secured the braces H, which are made of metal, and the free ends of these braces 4 are detachably secured by screws or other known means to the side rails. By removing these means the metal ,b0X may be removed, and an end board provided with studs upon its lower edge may be adjusted to the staples 5 on the rear edge of the bottom board, when an ordinary gardenbarrow will be the result, the side rails forming, in this case, the sides of the box.

I am aware of the Patent NO. 244,288, and 5 make no claim to the construction shown therein as forming part of my invention.

\Vhat I claim as my invention is 1. In a wheelbarrow, and in combination with the side rails thereof, a bottom, F, rig-f6 idly secured to the under sides or edges of the side rails and provided with the means described for securing an end board thereto, substantially as specified.

2. In combinatiomthe side rails, A A,wheel 6 B, legs E, bottom board, F, metallic dirt-box H, composed of the three pieces a b c, and braces H, the parts being constructed, combined, and operating substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
