Description

(No Model.)
W. KEMERY. PORTABLE FENCE.
Patented July 14, 1885.
WITNESSES I.
INVEiVTOR I ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFEicE.
W'ILLIAM KEMERY, OF MASSILLON, OHIO.
PORTABLE FENCE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent ,No. 321,978, dated. July 14:, 1885.
(No model.)
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, WILLIAM KEMERY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Massillon, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, haveinvented certainnew and useful Improve ments in Portable Fences, and I do hereby declare that the following is-a full, clear, and exact-description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures ofreference marked thereon, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation showing a fence on level ground. Fig. 2 is a side view of the locking and supporting devices, showing transverse view of fence. Fig. 3 is a side view of the locking and supporting devices and transverse view of the fence, showing the fence on a hillside. Fig. 4 is a side elevation showing the fence placed on uneven ground. Fig. 5 is a side view of thelocking and supporting devices for detachable panels, showing the parts in proper position to lock the panels. Fig. 6 is'a side view of the locking and supporting devices, showing the locking-lever locked to the side of the brace. Fig. 7 is a side view of the locking and supporting devices, showing the locking-lever locked to the under edge of the brace. Fig. 8 is a side view of locking and supporting devices for perma nent panels, showing the panels removed.
The present invention has relation to portable fences, which are designed to be easily constructed and adjusted, and which at the same time will be cheap and well adapted for the purpose designed; and the invention consists in the different parts and combination of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding partsin all thefigures ofthe drawings.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents a panel of the fence, which is composed of the horizontal bars or boards a, the perpendicular bars or boards a, and the wires b, and
may be made of any desired length, said bars or boards a and a being securely held togeiher by suitable clamping-bolts, B, one bolt being used in aplace, so that the panel A can be easily changed so as to have the bars or boards a assume a perpendicular position when the-fence is placed on an incline, as seen sill O, asseen in the drawings.
hase or sill O is provided with the shoulder c, and is for the purpose of holding the panels Ain proper position, together with the wire D. The wire D is securely attached to the base or The opposite end of the wire D is attached to the brace E, as shown in Figs. 1, 2, 3, 4, and 8, when per manent panels are used, and to the lockinglever F, as shown in Figs. 5, 6, and 7, when detachable panels are used. The object of providing detachable panels is to provide a convenient passage-way through the fence proper.
attached to the base or sill C, as shown in the drawings, by means of the clamping-bolt d. The brace E is provided with slot G, which is for the purpose of properly adjusting the fence on a steep hillside, the holes H being used when the hillside is less steep. The top or upper end of the brace E is rounded, as shown in the drawings, so that said brace can be easily forced down, and at the same time the wire D will securely bind the panels A together. When detachable panels are placed in the fence for the purpose of forming a passage-way, the brace E is formed as shown in Figs. 5, 6, and 7, and the locking-lever F attached to said brace, as shown in said figures.
In case it is desired to place detachable panels in the fence on a hillside, they are properly adjusted perpendicularly by means of the notches or recesses 72, the lockinglever F being adjusted by means of holes h. Saidlocking-leverF is held in the desired position by means of the pin I. Said pin I may be placed in the position shown in Fig. 6, or as shown in Fig. 7.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desired to secure by Letters of Patent, is-
1. In aportable fence, the combination, with the base or sill 0, provided with the shoulder c, of the wire D, attached at one end to the said base or sill G, the movable brace E, to
The brace E is substantially of the form shown in Figs. 1, 2, 3, 4, and 8, and is which the other end of the wire is attached, and menus for securing said brace to the sill, substantiollyns and for the purpose specified.
2. In a portable 1'enee,tl1e combination of the brace E, rounded at its top or upper end, the sill G, the wire D, attached to saidbrace E and to the sill G, and means for securing the brace, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have 10 hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
