1 Claim. (Cl. 103-17) This patent application is a division of US. patent application, Serial No. 115,810, filed June 8, 1961, now Patent No. 3,101,670, dated August 27, 1963.
This invention relates to apparatus, actuated electrically by a fluid, whereby the speed of a motor can be controlled.
One object of my invention is to provide such apparatus having vacuum-creating means electrically connected to a vacuum-operated control member that is connected to throttle-control mechanism, and having restricting means in a vacuum-conduit line whereby the vacuum therein can be controlled to a fine degree.
Another object is to provide such apparatus having said restricting means, and a vacuum breaker, the restricting means being so set that it has at least a minimum opening that is sufficient to permit establishment of a vacuum that can overcome the effect of air entering said line through the vacuum breaker.
A further object is to provide parts that form said apparatus and to so operably arrange them that connecting my apparatus with an automobile truck power mechanism, or the like, is relatively simple and inexpensive.
The foregoing and other objects which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, may be accomplished by a construction, combination and operative arrangement of parts such as is disclosed by the drawing. The nature of the invention is such as to render it susceptible to various changes and modifications, and, therefore, I am not to be limited to the construction disclosed by the drawing nor to the particular parts described in the specification; but am entitled to all such changes therefrom as fall within the scope of my claim.
In the drawing a diagrammatic view shows my apparatus operably connected to fluid-actuated mechanism that is operable through an electrical circuit.
As illustrated I show my invention applied to a fluidactuated, electrical device 50 responsive to fluid flow, and that is operably connected to a fluid discharge conduit 51, that communicates with a pump P such as is disclosed in my Patent No. 3,065,316 issued November 20, 1962. Electrical current flows through a wire 52 connected to an electrical switch 54 from which a wire 56 extends to a battery, not shown, which supplies current to the usual internal combustion motor, especially that of an auto truck.
A wire 58 extends from said device 50 to a solenoid valve 60 having a ground Wire 61, and that can be opened by electrical current. This solenoid valve 60 is supported by a bracket 62, and it communicates through a conduit 64 with vacuum-creating means having the usual manifold 66 of a said motor. This conduit 64 has a vacuumrestricting valve 68 therein having the usual control mechanism 69 and having a lower opening '70 which is closed when the valve 68 is shut off. Said valve also has an upper opening 72. Said valve 68 is used to control the degree of vacuum and thus the speed of the pumping operation. Said lower opening 70, whatever its position of use, is farther from said control mechanism 69 than said opening 72.
Said conduit 64 communicates through said solenoid 60 with a conduit 76 having a flexible hose portion 76a.

In said conduit 76 is a vacuum breaker 89 which permits suflicient air to pass into said conduit 76 to break the vacuum when the pumping operation ceases. Said breaker 80 has a filter 82 and an open dust cover 84.
Said conduit 76 communicates with a vacuum-operated control member 86, mounted on a bracket 88. Op-erably attached to said control member 86 is throttle control mechanism 90 having an arm 92 attached to a bead chain 94. The latter is attached to a connector 96 that connects with a throttle rod 98 that extends to a carburetor 100 which governs the supply of fuel to an internal combustion motor.
When oil, for instance, flows from a supply tank to a place of use, such as a heating apparatus storage tank, said device 50 is actuated to thereby close an electrical circuit. The electrical current established opens said solenoid valve 66. The operating motor, through said manifold 66, creates a vacuum through said conduit 64, said solenoid valve 60 and said conduit 76 to thus actuate said vacuum-operated control member 86 that in turn actuates said throttle-control mechanism 90 to thereby automatically speed up the motor, hence the pumping operation.
Inasmuch as the number of gallons per minute that can be pumped into a storage tank varies, depending upon different conditions, I provide said vacuum-restricting valve 68 in said conduit 64 which can vary the degree of vacuum in the latter.
Since my apparatus is used by those unfamiliar with the details of its mode of operation, said restricting valve 68 is preferably so regulated as to always be open sufficiently so that the vacuum established in the passages in my apparatus will be sufficient to overcome the effect of said vacuum breaker. This makes certain that the throttle control mechanism will be actuated to some degree when my apparatus becomes operative.
What I claim is:
Fluid-actuated apparatus to control motor speed comprising a motor, fluid pumping means connected to said motor, fluid flow responsive electrical means operably connected to said pumping means and having an electrical switch adapted to be connected to a source of electricity and adapted to close a circuit upon actuation of said electrical means, a solenoid valve, an electric wire connecting said switch and solenoid valve whereby said valve is adapted to open when an electrical circuit through said wire is established, vacuum-creating means, governing means for said vacuum creating means, a first conduit communicating with said latter means and with said solenoid valve, a restricting valve connected to said first conduit that is adapted to regulate the degree of vacuum in the latter conduit, a vacuum-operated control member, a second conduit communicating with the latter and with said solenoid valve, a vacuum breaker communicating with said second conduit that is adapted to introduce air into the latter, and throttle-control mechanism operably connected to said vacuum-operated member whereby said mechanism is adapted to be actuated by said latter member.
