Description

Nov. 9, 1965 K. GALLINA FLYER FRAME CONSTRUCTION Filed Dec. 2, 1963 INVENTOR. KURT GHLL/NH Wm, M W
United States Patent 3,216,185 FLYER FRAME CONSTRUCTION Kurt Gallina, Fellbach (Wurttemberg), Germany, assignor to C. Eugen Maier Metallverareitung G.m.b.H. Fellbach (Wurttemberg), Germany Filed Dec. 2, 1963, Ser. No. 327,433 6 Claims. '(Cl. 57-117) This invention relates in general to spinning machines, and in particular to a new and useful flyer frame construction.
The present invention relates in particular to a flyer frame which is mounted for rotation upon a spindle for the purpose of winding a slubbing or roving upon a wooden tube in closely wound successive layers. The flyer includes the usual presser which consists of a presser rod and a presser finger which extends from the lower end of the presser rod. The presser rod is rotatable with the flyer arm and is subjected to a centrifugal force. The yarn or the slubbing or roving is supplied through the hollow fiyer arm. With apparatus of this nature, after some period of operation a slot or groove is formed in the open lower end of the flyer arm and this formation is particularly rapid when the slubbing or roving is relatively hard. Due to the formation of this slot, the entire flyer becomes inoperative after some time.
In accordance with the invention, there is provided a special guide ring of wear-resistant material which is arranged at the lower end of the hollow flyer arm. Preferably this guide ring for the slubbing or roving is rigidly connected with the presser rod. In accordance with a preferred arrangement, the guide ring is constructed in the form of a rotatable bearing into which the hollow flyer arm engages from above. With a construction of this nature, if the guide ring becomes worn to an impermissible extent, then only the guide ring or the presser has to be replaced and not the entire flyer. The embodiment of the invention in which the guide ring forms a pivot bearing has an advantage over the prior art constructions, since the prior art constructions require special pivot bearings below the presser rod, which bearings are not required with the inventive construction.
Accordingly, it is an object of this invention to provide an improved construction for a flyer frame.
A further object of the invention is to provide a presser of a flyer frame having a guide ring formed at the lower end which provides a separate wear-resistant element for the feeding of a slubbing or roving therethrough.
A further object of the invention is to provide a presser for a flyer frame of a textile machine which carries a guide ring forming a rotatable bearing for a hollow rotatable flyer which is mounted thereover and which further forms a wear-resistant element for the passage of a slubbing or roving therethrough.
A further object of the invention is to provide a flyer and presser construction which is simple in design, rugged in construction and economical to manufacture.
The various features of novelty which characterize the invention are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this specification. For a better understanding of the invention, its operating advantages and specific objects attained by its use, reference should be had to the accompanying drawings and descriptive matter in which there are illustrated and described preferred embodiments of the invention.
In the drawings:
FIG. 1 is a partial elevational and partial sectional view of a flyer frame with a presser rod constructed in accordance with the invention;
FIG. 2 is a view similar to FIG. 1 of another embodiment of the invention;
FIG. 3 is a section taken on the line 3-3 of FIG. 1;
3,216,185 Patented Nov. 9, 1965 FIG. 4 is a section taken on the line 44 of FIG. 1; and
FIG. 5 is a section taken on the line 55 of FIG. 2.
Referring to the drawings in particular, the invention embodied therein in FIGS. 1, 3 and 4 comprises a flyer frame with a presser rod 1 of known construction which is mounted for rotation along with a hollow flyer arm 2. The flyer arm 2 has a longitudinally extending slot 2'. Generally, an upper and a lower bearing ring emanate from the presser rod 1, and these rings embrace the hollow flyer arm. The arrangement is such that the presser rod 1 is held in a substantially vertical position. Only the lower one of the bearing rings, namely bearing ring 3, is indicated in FIG. 1 of the drawings. The bearing ring 3 has also a longitudinal slot 3' arranged in alignment with the slot 2'.
In this embodiment, in accordance with the invention, a guide ring 4 is connected with the presser rod 1 such as by welding, as indicated at 10 in FIG. 4. The guide ring 4 is situated below the hollow flyer arm 2 and is preferably arranged concentrically in respect thereto. The slubbing or roving, indicated 5 in FIG. 1 in dash lines, extends outwardly through the hollow flyer arm 2 and is twisted around the lower end of the presser rod, as indicated. The slubbing 5 is guided below the hollow flyer arm 2 through the guide ring 4. For this purpose the inner diameter of the guide ring is preferably smaller than the inner diameter of the flyer arm 2.
In accordance with the embodiments of FIGS. 2 and 5, a guide ring 6 is provided in the form of a rotary pivot or bearing. The guide ring 6 is secured to a presser rod 1 as by welding 10 as in the other embodiment. In this embodiment, however, a flyer arm 2" is rotatably mounted in the ring 6 above a ledge portion 6' formed therein. The guide ring 6 has an interior diameter which is smaller than the interior diameter of the flyer arm 2" and hence the slubbing or roving 5 engages against the interior of the ring rather than the interior wall of the flyer arm 2". The guide ring 6 also has a lateral opening or slot 6" which aligns with slot 2" of the flyer arm )2". The slots 2', 3' and 4 of the FIGS. 1, 3 and 4 embodiment and the slots 2" and 6" of the FIGS. 2 and 5 embodiment are provided for the purpose of introducing the slubbing in a known manner.
While specific embodiments of the invention have been shown and described in detail to illustrate the application of the inventive principles, it will be understood that the invention may be embodied otherwise without departing from such principles.
What is claimed is:
1. A presser for flyer frames and similar textile machines having a rotatable hollow flyer arm comprising a presser adapted to be rotatably mounted at said flyer arm, and a guide ring of wear-resistant material connected to said presser and arranged below said hollow flyer arm in alignment therewith.
2. A presser according to claim 1, wherein said guide ring has an internal diameter less than the internal diameter of said flyer arm.
3. A presser according to claim 1, wherein said guide ring is formed as a rotatable bearing for mounting said presser to said flyer arm.
4. A presser according to claim 1, wherein said guide ring is a separate ring which is welded to said presser rod below said flyer arm.
5. A presser according to claim 1, wherein said guide ring forms a rotatable bearing for mounting said presser to said flyer, said guide ring having an interior ledge forming a lower abutment for said flyer arm.
6. A device for winding textile materials such as slubbings, rovings and the like, comprising a flyer frame having a rotatable flyer arm, a presser adapted to be rota tably mounted at said flyer arm, and a guide ring for guiding the slubbing from the fiyer armconnected to said presser and located on said presser to be arranged below said hollow flyer arm in alignment therewith.
