Description

J. S. HAWLEY & H. W. HOOPS.
MARKING CHOCOLATE CREAM DROPS AND OTHER GONPEGTIONERY.
,216. Patented June 30, 1885.
WITNESSES N, PETERS Photo-Lithographer. Wnhingmm D C NITED STATES PATENT Erica.
JOHN S. HAWVLEY, OF BRICK CHURCH, NEW JERSEY, AND HERMAN W. HOOPS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
MARKING CHOCOLATE-CREAM DROPS AND OTHER CONFECTIONERY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 321,216, dated June 30, 1885.
Application filed January 19, 1835. (Model.)
T 0 all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN S. HAWLEY, of Brick Church, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, and HERMAN W. HooPs, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Marking Chocolate-Cream Drops and other Confectionery, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming-a part of this specification, in which Figure l is a plan view of aportion of a sheet of paper used in carrying our invention into practical effect. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of the same and of a chocolate-cream drop in place upon it. Fig. 3 is a bottom perspective view of a marked chocolate-cream drop.
The object of this invention is to provide a simple and convenient method of marking chocolate-cream drops and other confectionery with a trade-marker other desired inscription.
The invention consists in impressing the marks upon paper and laying the chocolatecream drops or other confectionery while yet warm and plastic upon the paper and over the marks to harden, whereby the said marks will be formed in relief or in intaglio upon the drops, as will be hereinafter fully described and then claimed.
\Ve will describe our invention as applied to chocolate-cream drops; but do not limit ourselves to that application, as it can be used with good effect for marking cream bonbons and other confectionery.
In carrying our invention into practical effeet, the trademark or other inscription is struck up or formed upon sheets of paper in relief upon one side and in intaglio upon the other side, and each sheet is laid upon a plate or pan with either side upward, The impressions are formed in the paper at such distances apart that a chocolate-cream drop can be placed on each impression. The sugar drop or kernel is then covered with the chocolate preparation in the ordinary manner, and is placed upon the paper directly over an impression and allowed to harden. When the chocolatecream drops have hardened during the process of cooling and are removed, they will have the trade-mark or other inscription in relief or in intaglio upon their bases, as indicated in Fig. 3. Plain paper, or waxed or otherwise prepared paper, can be used; but waxed paper is preferred, as it can be used a greater number of times without being renewed than plain paper.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The method of marking chocolate-cream drops and other confectionery, substantially as herein shown and described, which consists in impressing the mark upon paper and laying the drops while warm and plastic upon paperand over the impressed marks to cool and harden, whereby the marks will be formed in relief or in intaglio upon the drops, as set forth.
