RODNEY S. CATHCART, OF PALESTINE,
PATENT EETCE TEXAS, ASSIGNOR TO THE AMERICAN COTTON OIL COMPANY, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
OIL-EXPREsslNG Box.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 320,847, dated June 23, 1885.
Application filed March 23, 18%5. (No model.)
To all whom, t may concern,.-
Be it known that I, RODNEY S. OATHGART, of Palestine, Texas, have made a new and useful Improvement in Oil-Expressing Boxes for Expressing the Oil from Cotton-Seed and other Seeds, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the improvement is to provide means for obviating the use of mats in oil-expressing boxes.
It consists, mainly, in the mode of constructing the follower. Heretofore in constructing oilexpressing boxes it has been customary to provide for a certain amount of play between the follower and the box, and to prevent the folds of the bag which contains the material from which the oil is expressed from being caught between the follower and the sides of the box guardstrips have been attached to the follower at its upper side edges, which serve to close the joints between the follower and the sides of the box.
In the present construction the follower is adapted to lfit the box, so as to obviate the need of any joint-closing device, and the face of the follower at its side edges is raised to better confine the bag in place, and at its center or central portion is channeled and provided with a false bottom to provide for the escape of the oil.
The annexed drawings, making part of this specification, illustrate the improved box.
Figure l is a plan of the box. Fig. 2 is a bottom view. Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section on the line 3 3 of Fig. l, and Fig. 4 is a vertical transverse section on the line 4 4 of Fig. l. The view shows two boxes.
The same letters of reference denote the same parts.
Otherwisethan as modified by the improvement the box A is constructed in the usual :ma-nner.
B represents the follower of the box, and C the chamber or box proper in which the follower works. The follower, in width, is made to work as snugly as is practicable within the chamber C, its sides Z) b coming close to the customary lining-strips c c, which con- 5o stitute the sides of the chamber. The elevation of the side edges is shown at b b. The oil-channels b2 extend longitudinally in the follower-face, and they are covered by the perforated plate b, which, when used, constitutes, with the raised edges b b', the support for the bag. The roof of the chamber C is preferably similarly constructed, it being inclined or curved downward at its side corners, c c', and end corner, c2, channeled 6o longitudinally at c3, and provided with the perforated plate c4, which serves to inclose the channels c3, and with the depressed corners c c2 to constitute the ceiling of the chamber C.
There may be one or more rounded ribs, D, extending along the ceiling of the chamber C, to facilitate the removal of the compressed bag and its contents from the chamber. There may be the customary oil-channels a a behind 7o the lining-strips c c.
I claim- 1. An oil-expressing box, whose follower is fitted to the chamber C, and whose edges are raised at b b', substantially as and for the 75 purpose described. l
2. An oil expressing box follower, whose face is channeled and provided with a perforated plate, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth. 8O
3. An oil-expressing -box follower, whose face is channeled at b2 and provided with the perforated plate band having the raised edges b b', in combination with the chamber C, substantially as described. 8 5
4. An oil-expressing box, the ceiling of whose chamber C is channeled and provided with a perforated plate, as and for the purpose described.
5. An oil-expressing box, the ceiling of 9o whose chamber C is provided with a rib or ribs D, as and for the purpose described.
6. An oil-expressing box, the ceiling of whose chamber C is channeled, in combination with the channeled follower B, substantially as described.
7. An oilexpressing box, the ceiling of l and provided with the perforated plate and Whose chamber C is channeled, as and for the having the raised edges, substantially as depurpose described. scribed.
S. A11 oil-expressing box, the ceiling of RODNEY S. CATHOART. whose chamber C is channeled and provided Vibnesses: with the perforated plate, in combination C. D. MOODY,
with the follower B, Whose face is channeled THOS. P. SULLIVAN.
