Description

Sept. 28, 1965 M. FARKAs 3,208,454
PANTY GIRDLE WITH REMOVA-BLE CROTCH-PIECE Filed oct. 1e, 1965 INVENTOR. F/ 8 /W/V/VY FEKS' gdb/M United States Patent O 3,268,454 PANTY GIRDIJIE WITH REEMOVABLE CHOICE-PIECE Manny Farkas, 1314 46th St., Brooidyn, NY. Filed Oct. 16, 1963, Ser. No. 316,715 6 Claims. (Cl. 12S-S27) This invention relates generally to girdles and more particularly to panty girdles having a removable and adjustable crotch-piece.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a panty girdle having a crotch-opening and an adjustable covering member for such opening which will be readily attachable and detachable with a minimum of fastenings.
It is a further object of the invention to provide an adjustable crotch-covering member for a girdle which can provide adjustable downward tension transmitted and distributed to the abdominal and seat portions of the girdle.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a panty girdle with a bottom opening and a crotch-piece covering therefor which will make it unnecessary for the wearer to remove the panty girdle at all for water-closet purposes or for exchanging sanitary napkins.
It is another object of the invention to provide a girdle with a removable crotch member having readily releasable fastening means whereby the crotch member can be retained fastened to the rear portion of the girdle while being detached from the leg portions and the abdominal portion of the girdle.
Another object of the invention is to provide a removable and adjustable crotch-piece for a panty girdle which is adapted to carry a sanitary napkin for menstruation absorption.
Another object of the invention is to provide for a panty girdle a replaceable separable crotch-piece of elastic material which, when selectively adjusted to the particular wearer, ts snugly in the crotch and requires the unsnapping of only three hooks, namely at the abdomen and on the inside of each thigh, to expose the girdle crotch opening.
Another object of the invention is to provide a crotchpiece for a girdle which is sufficiently adjustable so that the wearer can make it as snug or as loose as desired for her own comfort.
Another object of the invention is to provide a girdle with a large enough opening at the crotch to obviate the necessity for removing the panty girdle for watercloset use or for exchanging or applying sanitary napkins, and to provide a removable crotch-piece for covering such opening in the girdle.
Another object of the invention is to provide a crescent-shaped fastening pad on the seat wall portion of a panty girdle which will distribute tension forces from an elastic crotch-piece throughout a large area of the girdle seat.
Another object of the invention is to provide a plurality of vertically arranged fastenings on the abdominal wall portion of a panty girdle, which in combination with fastenings placed on the inside of the thigh portions of the girdle, will distribute tension forces over a wide area throughout the girdle fabric, and will avoid local pulling and discomfort at the crotch.
It is another object of the invention to provide a panty girdle with a maximum crotch opening for easy access and greater sanitation to prevent soiling.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a girdle of simple construction, which is inexpensive to manufacture, which has a minimum number of parts easy to attach and ecient in use.
To these ends and in accordance with the invention, a
panty girdle is provided with a crotch opening formed by the omission of the uppermost portions of the inside of the thighs, and the lowermost portions of the abdominal and seat portions of the girdle. A crescent-shaped pad containing 3 to 5 eyelets and downwardly curved is sewn or otherwise attached to the outside wall of the seat portion, and a rectangular pad containing 3 to 5 eyelets vertically arranged is attached, such as by sewing, to the outer abdominal wall portion of the girdle. An airplane-shaped crotch-covering piece, removable and independent from the panty girdle itself, is provided to overlap the edges of the crotch opening. The extended forward part of the airplane-shaped crotch-piece has at its end a single hook which engages one of the vertically arranged eyelets on the abdomen portion. One hook at the extremities of each of the wing tips of the crotch-piece is adapted to be hooked into an eyelet at the inside of each thigh portion of the girdle, and 3 to 5 hooks at the flared-out tail portion of the airplaneshaped crotch-piece engage the eyelets in the crescentshaped pad on the seat portion of the girdle. Protected eyelets may also be provided on the inside of the crotchpiece for engaging a hook or safety pin attached to a sanitary napkin.
Other objects, features and many of the attendant advantages of this invention will be readily appreciated as the same becomes better understood by reference to the following detailed description when considered in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein:
FIG. 1 is a front elevation View of a girdle with an improved detachable crotch-piece according to the invention illustrated with the crotch-piece removed;
FIG. 2 is a rear elevation View of the girdle of FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is a bottom view taken along line 3 3 of FIG. 1;
FIG. 4 is an enlarged plan view of the improved crotchpiece shown in attened-out position with the inner side facing upward;
FIG. Sis a perspective view yof the improved crotchpiece of FIG. 4 and illustrating the relative position which it would occupy in the girdle according to FIG. 2, the rear portion of the crotch-piece being to the right and the abdominal portion being to the left of FIG. 5;
FIG. 6 is a cross section taken along line 6 6 of FIG. 1, except that the crotch-piece is shown in position on the girdle;
FIG. 7 is a cross section taken along line 7-7 of FIG. 1 and indicates the fastening eyelets on the abdominal portion of the girdle;
FIG. 8 is an enlarged cross section of a portion of FIG. 6 and shows the crotch-piece adapted to hold a sanitary napkin.
As best shown in FIG. 4, the crotch-piece 10 according to the invention may be referred to as being airplane-shaped.
The crotch-piece 10 is provided with two side wing portions 11, a flared-out tail portion 12 and an extended nose portion 13. At the extremity of the flared-out tail portion is a reinforcing strip 14 to which are attached a plurality, preferably 3 to 5, fastening means 15, such as hooks, which are engageable with eyelets or other engaging means 15a on the seat portion of the girdle. At the extremities of each of the wing portions 11 are provided a single hook or fastening means 16 for engaging the engaging means or eyelets 16a at the inside of each thigh portion of the girdle. Likewise, at the end of the extended nose portion 13 of the crotch-piece is provided a single fastening means or hook 17 adapted to engage one of the vertically aligned eyelets 17a on the abdominal portion of the girdle.
As shown in FIGS. 1, 2 and 3 and also in FIGS. 6 and 8, the girdle forms a crotch opening 18. This opening may even extend partially upward into the abdominal panel 19 and up into the seat panel 21 of the girdle, and also partially down to cut out the upper part of the inside of the thigh portion 22 of the girdle. This will assure a large enough opening and help prevent the portions of the girdle adjacent the crotch from becoming soiled.
A rectangular reinforcing strip 23 which holds the eyelets or loops 17a is sewed or otherwise fastened with its axis vertical, onto the abdominal panel section 19. The reinforcing strip 23 contains a plurality, at least 3 to 5, of engaging members 17a for receiving the single hook 17 at the end of the nose portion of the crotchpiece 10.
A downwardly curved arcuate reinforcing piece 24 which contains a plurality, preferably 3 to 5, eyelets or engaging means 15a, is sewed or otherwise fastened to the seat panel 21, preferably above the Zone where it would uncomfortably press against a chair while the wearer is in seated position.
According to a further feature of the invention, as shown in FIGS. 5 and 8, one of the same eyelets 17a and a serve for engaging hooks 26 attached by elastic 26a to respective front and back ends of a sanitary napkin 25, which would rest in the crotch-piece 10, as illustrated in FIG. 8 and as shown in phantom lines in FIG. 5. The lowerrnost of the front eyelets 17a and the center of the eyelets 15a would normally serve this purpose.
It will be noted that the plurality of hook members 15 on the tail portion 12 are located on radii of a circle whose center is at the intersection of the longitudinal center lines of wings 11 and of extended nose piece 17. The arcuate reinforcing piece 24 with its eyelets 15a is correspondingly arranged to engage the hooks or fasteners 15, and thus to distribute over a wide area of the seat panel 2l any tension forces existing along these individual radii passing through the respective hooks 15. This structure minimizes non-uniform pulling, tugging or binding which could otherwise cause discomfort to the wearer. The hooks 15 will preferably be located equidistantly from the center of the abovementioned imaginary circle, but these respective distances along said radii can vary depending upon the elasticity of the crotch-piece material and the relative tension along a respective radius. The radial distances are then predetermined accordingly.
One of the outstanding advantages of the crotch-piece 1() is that it can be removed in a matter of seconds merely by unhooking 3 hooks, namely the single fastening means 17 at the abdomen and the fastening means 16 at each thigh. Ordinarily, the rear portion 14 can be left attached to the seat of the girdle by hooks 15 engaging the eyelets 15a. However, if it is desired to remove the entire crotch-piece 10, the few hooks 15 can be instantly disengaged from the eyelets 15a.
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art, upon studying this disclosure, that devices and garments according to my invention can be modified in various respects and hence may be embodied in various garments other than as particularly illustrated and described herein, without departing from the essential features of my invention and within the scope of the claims annexed hereto.
