CONVEYER FOR FLOUR-BOLTS AND MIDDLINGS-PURIFIERS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 320,707, dated June 23, 1885.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, FRED. J. SoHUrr, of Marshall, in the county of Saline andState of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oonveyers for Flour- Bolts and liliddlings-Purifiers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to an improvement in conveyors for flour-bolts and middlingspuritiers, the object of the same being to provide means for preventing the dust or fragments intended for one conveyer from passing over into the other conveyer, and to further provide means whereby the flour may be readily sampled as it passes from the bolt-reels to the conveyer and the conveyer freed from clogging without danger of injury to the hand; and with these ends in view my invention consists in certain features of construction and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a view of the separator in perspective. Fig. 2 is a plan view with hoppers removed. Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section, and Fig. 4 a detached view of one of the slides.

A represents an oblong chest, provided w ith a central longitudinal partition, a, dividing the interior of the chest into two elongated chambers, in which the conveyers B are located.

The elongated hopper-spout G is located on the top of the chest A, centrally overthe partition a, and is divided into a series of spouts by'wedge-shaped transverse partitions c. The chest A is covered between the bases of the wedge-shaped partitions c by transverse slides D, each provided with a perforation, d, located about centrally therein. The slides D are somewhat longer than the width of the drawn in the opposite direction the said perforation will lie wholly over the other elongated chamber. As the partition a lies in, close proximity to the under sides of the slides and the partitions between the slides, the flour and the dust and fragments separating therefrom will be effectually stopped from passing over into the opposite chamber from that in which it is deposited.

Along the side of the elongated hopperspout O, and directly over the slides D, are hand-holes E, covered by caps e, which are pivoted to the chest above the holes, and may be readily swung to one side to admit the hand, as shown in Fig. 3, for the purpose of sampling the flour as it falls from the boltreels without any danger of the hand being caught in the machinery.

Oblique plates or guides F are located at the base of the hopper to guide the flour to a central position over the slides.

The sides of the chest A are provided with doors G, which may be opened and the hand admitted to relieve the convcyer when for any cause it has become clogged.

The device as thus constructed is a simple, convenient, and eminently practical one for the purposes set forth, and will admit of being introduced into a great majority of the mills in present use with but a small outlay of money, time, and labor.

In a conveyor for flour and iniddlings puri tiers, the combination, with an elongated hopper, a series of wedgeshaped partitions arranged transversely across said hopper, and hand-holes formed in one side of the hopper between the transverse partitions, of a chest located below the hopper and divided into two compartments by a longitudinal partition, and provided with clearingdoors, and the sliding cutoff gates located between the hopper and the chest, and provided with a single opening, all combined substantially as set forth.
