Description
1965 H. D. LOCKHART 3,203,420
URINARY APPLIANCE Filed May 7, 1962 United States Patent 3,203,420 URINARY APPLIANCE Hervey D. Lockhart, Box 211, 21 Quigley Park, Ashville, N.Y. Filed May 7, 1962, Ser. No. 192,742 4 Claims. (Cl. 128-295) This invention is an appliance for males with partial or total urinary incontinence. The object is to provide a simple appliance which is easily removable without disrobing, which will afford the utmost security from leakage and resulting embarassment and provide all possible comfort to the wearer, and which may be easily cleaned and maintained in a sanitary condition.
In the drawing, FIG. 1 is a fragmentary front perspective of the appliance with the urine collecting parts removed, and FIG. 2 is an exploded view.
The appliance is supported by a belt 1 having at the front a supporting member 2 preferably hinged to the belt at 3 and having clips 4 at opposite sides receiving spring arms 5 which are preferably spaced apart in the unstressed condition a distance greater than the separation of the clips so the resilience of the arms tends to hold the arms in the sockets. Enlargements 5a prevent lengthwise withdrawal of the arms from the sockets. The clips 4 and arms 5 provide a convenient detachable connection to the belt. The hinge construction 3 allows the lower ends of the arms 5 to move inward and outward. The belt and clasp arrangement for the arms 5 provides automatically for the position change from sitting to standing.
The lower ends of the arms 5 are fixed to a metal or plastic ring unit having an externally grooved ring 6 at the front and an integral, larger diameter, externally grooved ring 7 at the back. The ring 7 is eccentric to and has its center above the center of the ring 6, an important feature for improving the comfort.
In the use of the appliance, the first step is to put on the belt 1 with the clasp 2 at the middle front. The next step is to insert the penis through the rings 7 and 6 and then insert the spring arms in the clips 4. Third, insert the penis through the short open ended latex tube 8 starting at the end with the integral O-ring 9 and pulling it through so the front end 10 is well back of the head. By grasping the tab 11, the O-ring 9 is easily snapped in place in the external groove of ring 6. Fourth, put the penis and tubular sheath 8 through the integral O-ring 12 at the upper end of the bag sheath 13 and by grasping the tab 14 snap the O-ring into the external groove in ring 7. Fifth, attach a leg bag or other suitable urinal to the fitting 15 at the lower end of bag 13.
The tabs 11 and 14 on the O- rings 9 and 12 permit installation and removal without strain on the light weight material of the sheath 8 and bag 13. The eccentric back ring 7 provides space for the tab 11.
The outer end of the latex sheath 8 has a resilient grip on the penis which provides both a liquid and gas tight seal.
What is claimed as new is:
