L. 0. WRIGHT.
STEAM WASHER.
No. 319,656. Padtented' June 9, 1885.
WITNESSES ATTORNEY N PETERS, Pmmunw n nen Washington, 0.0
PATENT @rrrcn.
LYMAN G. IVRIGHT, SHANESVILLE, OHIO.
STEAM-WASH ER.
[SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 319,656, dated June 9, 1885.
Application filed Januany 24, 1885.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LYMAN G. WRIGHT, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Shanesville, in the county of Tuscarawas and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in SteamWVashers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact. description of the same, reference being bad to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through its middle.
The present invention has relation to the general improvement of steam washing-machines; and it consistsin the different parts and combination of parts, hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each of the figures in the drawings.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the wash-chamber, which is substantially of the form shown in the drawings, and is held at the required height by suitable legs, which are rigidly attached to said chamber A in the ordinary manner.
The chamber A is provided with the pipes or tubes B and C, said pipes or tubes being attached to said chamber A substantially as shown in the drawings. The opposite ends of the pipes or tubes are attached in the ordinary manner to the water-jacket D, as shown in the drawings.
Within the water-jacket D is located the fire-box E, the bottom or lower end of which is provided with the grate a. The top or upper end of said firebox is provided with a movable hood, I), said hood being substantially of the form shown in the drawings, the top or upper portion of which is provided with the chimney or smoke-stack F. The hood I) is also provided with the door for the introduction of fuel.
No model.)
The top or upper end of the water-jacket D is provided with a cold-water receptacle, G, which is substantially of the form shown, and should extend upward about to the top of the fire-box E, and is for the purpose of holding cold water, to prevent the solder from being melted while in use.
In use a sufficient quantity of water is placed in the chamber A to fill or nearly fill the waterjacket D, and the clothes designed to be washed placed in said chamber A, together with a suflicient quantity of soap or like material, when the cover H is placed in the position shown in the drawings.
It will be seen that as the water in the jacket D becomes heated steam will pass into the chamber A through the pipe or tube B, and the steam will be forced downward by means ot'the pipe I, thus causing a portion of the steam to enter and pass through the pipe or tube 0, thereby causing the water and steam to form a circuit, thus agitating the water and clothes in the chamber A. WVhen the entire wash is finished, the water is drawn off through the pipe J.
An ordinary ashpan may be placed under the grate, if desired.
Having now described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a steam-washer, the combination of chamber A, having a removable cover, water-chain ber D, pipes B and 0, leading from chamber D into the side of chamber A, one above the other, and pipe I, leading from pipe B downwardly toward pipe 0 on the inside of chamber A, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
L. G. WRIGHT.
