SAPBGlLlNG APPARATUS.
SPECIFICaTI-Qh forming part of Letters Patent No. 318,815, dated Iray 2G, 3.825.
Application filed March 5, 1885.
To all when@ t may concern,.-
Be it known that I, Jnssn M. Simoni, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Benton, county of Mahoning and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sap-Boiling Apparatus; and I do hereby declare the following to be a description of the same, and of the manner of constructing and using the invention, in such full, clean/concise, and exact terms as to enable any/person skilled in-the art to which it appertains to construct and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of the specification, the principle of the invention being herein eX- plained and the best mode in which I have contemplated applying that principle, so as to distinguish it from other inventions.
My invention is an improvement in sapboiling apparatus, and is designed to facilitate the process of boiling by heating portions oi' the sap before it is put into the boilers by means of heat from the boiler.
The drawing is a vertical sectional View of my device, sho-wing it as in use.
A is the furnace, with chimney a..
B is the boiler, seated upon the furnace, and has the top I detachable, but so shut down by means of flanges around the top edge of the boiler as to conne the vapor of the boiling sap sufficiently for the purposes of my device, and is' provided with the open-top cone d.
C is the heater, seated upon said top and provided with the separate chambers C', D, and E, The bottom of heater G is convex and provided with central opening, b, through which cone d projects.
C is the sap-heating chamber, and is traversed by the lues c, which open at their respect-ive ends into chambers D and Chamber E is provided with the discharge-pipe c, opening from the top E', and projecting downward into the furnace. Said pipe has the slip-joints e and ci, adapting it to be shortened or lengthened as desired. The lues c may be of any desired number. The design of pipe e is to convey away the vapor of the boiling sap after it has reached chamber E.
Chamber C is provided with the. supply- (No model .l
pipe F, having funnel f and stop-cock f and the discharge-pipe G, the latter having stopcocl; g. Through pipe F sap is introduced into chamber C to be heated, and through pipe G it is drawn off into the boiler.
Top E is formed conical; but I am not conned to that form, and the top may be of any preferred form. Neither am I coniined to the termination I have given to pipe e; but it may have any preferred direction and termiuation.
It is well known that the escape of the vapor from boiling sap out into the building where the process is going on is objectionable; hence the utility ofmy device for conducting it away outside the building. In addition to this I utilize the passing vapor for heating the sap in chamber C by heating it in chambers D and E, and by passing it through the tlues c. Also, I do not coniine my device of top E with pipe e, having the slip-joints c and e2, to sap-boiling apparatus; but it may be applied equally Well to other similar processes, and to diverse articles of analogous use, such as the kettles of an ordinary domestic stove. Said top device can also be utilized for the ventilation of rooms or even houses.
Vhat, therefore, I claim isl. In a sap-boilin g apparatus, the combinatiou, with boiler B, of sap-heater C, operatively connected with said boiler and provided with sap-holding chamber G', located between vapor-chambers D and E, said vapor-chambers connected together by dues c, traversing charnber G', said combination. adapted to heat the sap in the latter chamber by the vapor in chambers D and E and lues c, substantially as set forth.
2. In a sap-boiling apparatus, the combination, with boiler B, of sap-heater C, operatively connected with said boiler, said heater having the chambers D and E, connected together by fines c, `and having also sap-chamber C', located between the chambers D and E, said chamber G, traversed bytlues c and provided with supply-pipe F and discharge-pipe G, chamber E, having outletpipe e, connecting with furnace-draft, said pipe having slip -j oints e e2, all for the purposes set forth and described.
3. In a sap-boiling apparatus, the combina- IOO tion, with the boiler, of heater C, operatively connected with said boiler, said heater having the vapor-chambers D and E, connected together by suitable vapor-conducting devices, said heater having also the sap-holding charnber G, located between chambers D and E and in operative connection with said vaporconducting devices, chamber E being provided With escape-pipe e, discharging into the furnace-draft, substantially as set forth.
4. In a sap-boiling apparatus, the combination, with heater C, of the detachable top E, having the discharge-pipe e, provided on its horizontal arm with slip-joint e and on its vertical arm with slip-joint e2, substantially asset forth.
