No. 168,731 Claims. (Cl. 40-15) This invention relates to neckerchief holders and, more particularly, to such a holder of novel construction, of pleasing and attractive appearance, and so formed that a tab may be interchangeably inserted therein for identification purposes.

Neckerchiefs are now worn by a great many young boys and by certain organizations such as the Boy Scouts, Cubs and so forth. Boys like to have their neckerchief holders or slides not only of pleasing appearance but adapted to identify the troop or other unit to which they belong. It is usual for Boy Scouts to be organized into patrols each of which bears some name, number or other identification. A neckerchief holder, slide or woggle, in accordance with my invention, is constructed so as to not only display a designating numeral or the like, but one which can be changed in case the identification of the unit is changed or the boy transferred to some other unit.

An object of my invention is to provide a neckerchief holder or slide comprising a transparent front emblem portion, an intermediate pocket portion extending from the rear thereof and opening to interchangeably receive an identifying tag visible through said front portion, and a rear portion projecting from said pocketed portion and having a neckerchief-end-receiving opening.

Another object of my invention is to provide such a slide wherein the front portion is of transparent plastic and through which the identifying tab is visible.

A further object of my invention is to provide a neckerchief slide, such as above described, wherein the tabreceiving pocket opens only upward and wherein the rear portion has a cylindrical opening which is normally vertical.

A still further object of my invention is to provide a slide as above described wherein all parts are formed of plastic, such as Lucite, either cemented together or as an integral device.

These and other objects and advantages will become apparent from the following detailed description when taken with the accompanying drawings. It will be understood that the drawings are for purposes of illustration and do not definethe scope or limits of the invention, reference being bad for the latter purpose to the appended claims.

FIGURE 1 is a fragmentary front elevational view showing how a neckerchief slide embodying my invention is worn with a neckerchief, the ends of which project through the rear portion of the slide and down the front of the wearer.

FIGURE 2 is a front elevational view of the neckerchief slide to a larger scale.

FIGURE 3 is a plan of the slide of FIGURE 2.

FIGURE 4 is a side elevational view from the right side of the slide of FIGURES 2 and 3.

Referring now to the drawings in detail, a neckerchief holder or slide 11 is shown in FIGURE 1 worn by an individual who may be a Boy Scout. The slide is, therefore, shown outlined as a Boy Scout emblem and the neckerchief 12 worn therewith has its ends 13 extended down therethrough and frictionally held therein.

In the embodiment illustrated, the slide 11 comprises three parts which may be separately formed and secured together, or as one integral device. The outer part 14 I of the slide may be constructed in any desired shape, such as that here illustrated. That is, it may be decorative and/or organization-identifying. It is formed of some transparent material, such as glass, but desirably unbreakable such as transparent plastic.

Secured to the rear surface of the portion 14 is an intermediate portion 15. This portion may be generally rectangular in elevation and have a rectangular pocket 16 formed between it and the rear surface of the front portion. Thus the pocket 16 may be defined by the rear wall of the portion 15 and flanges or ribs 18 projecting forwardly on three sides therearound. One side, preferably the top, is left open as indicated at 19 for the reception or removal of a tab, label or the like 20, bearing a number, letter, symbol or other means for identifying the troop or other unit to which the wearer belongs. Such a tab might also identify a special event, including Jamborees, Camporees, hikes and special awards of merit.

On the rear surface of the intermediate pocketed portion 15 is secured a rear portion 17, said portion being adapted to function as a neckerchief slide and providing an aperture 21 which may be cylindrical, slightly conical, or other desirable shape to receive and frictionally hold the end portions 13 of a neckerchief 12 when worn and used therewith. When so doing, said neckerchief holds the slide with its axis approximately vertical and thereby consequently cooperates with and positions the pocketed portion 15 with its opening at the top, so as to conveniently receive the identifying tab 20 without danger of loss. This rear portion, although indicated as integral with the intermediate portion 15, may be formed in one piece therewith, or it may be separately formed and cemented or otherwise secured to the rear surface of said intermediate portion.

Having now described my invention in detail in accordance with the requirements of the patent statutes, those skilled in this art will have no difiiculty in making changes and modifications in the individual parts or their relative assembly in order to meet specific requirements or conditions. Such changes and modifications may be made without departing from the scope and spirit of the invention, as set forth in the following claims.

I claim:

1. An interchangeable tab neckerchief holder comprising a transparent front emblem portion, an intermediate pocketed portion secured to the rear surface thereof and opening to interchangeably receive an identifying tab for viewing through said front portion, and a neckerchief slide portion projecting from the rear surface of said pocketed portion and having an opening extending from the bottom in the direction of pocketed portion opening for receiving and frictionally holding the ends of a 3 neckerchief, whereby when in use the slide portion cooperates with the pocketed portion for holding, it in upwardly opening position to safely house the. tab for convenient viewing, Without danger of unintentional removal.

2. A neckerchief slide as recited in claim 1, wherein the front emblem portion is formed of transparent plastic material.

3. A neckerchief slide as recited in claim 1, wherein the opening in the rear portion is cylindrical about a normally vertical axis. 7

4. A neckerchief slide as recited in claim 1, wherein all parts thereof are formed of plastic and cemented together.;

Claims

1. AN INTERCHANGEABLE TAB NECKERCHIEF HOLDER COMPRISING A TRANSPARENT FRONT EMBLEM PORTION, AN INTERMEDIATE POCKETED PORTION SECURED TO THE REAR SURFACE THEREOF AND OPENING TO INTERCHANGEABLY RECEIVE AN INDENTIFYING TAB FOR VIEWING THROUGH SAID FRONT PORTION, AN INTERMEDIATE SLIDE PORTION PROJECTING FROM THE REAR SURFACE OF SAID POCKETED PORTION AND HAVING AN OPENING EXTENDING FROM THE BOTTOM IN THE DIECTION OF POCKETED PORTION OPENING FOR RECEIVING AND FRICTIONALLY HOLDING THE ENDS OF A NECKERCHIEF, WHEREBY WHEN IN USE THE SLIDE PORTION COOPERTES WITH THE POCKETED PORTION FOR HOLDING IT IN UPWARDLY OPENING POSITION TO SAFELY HOUSE THE TAB FOR CONVENIENT VIEWING, WITHOUT DANGER OF UNINTENTIONAL REMOVAL.
