JOSEPH MARSDEN, OF FAR ROOKAVVAY, NEV YORK.
WELL-PUMP TUBING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 317,557, dated May 12, 1885.
Application filed August 2l, 1884.
To a/ZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, Josnrn MARsDnN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Far Itockaway, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Well-Pump Tubing; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which-- Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of my improved welltubing, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one of the tubes or pipes with a portion of the same broken away for the purpose of showing the invention more clearly.
The same letters refer to the same parts in both the gures.
This invention relates to well-pump tubing, and more particularly to the joints of the same; and it has for its object to construct the said joints in such a manner that the sections of tubing shall thereby be easily set 7 or connected together in such a manner that they cannot accidentally be dislocated or pulled apart, and in such a manner as to render the said joints tight and water-proof.
Vith these ends in view my invention consists in the improved construction and arrangement of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings hereto annexed, A designates a section of my improved well-pump tubing, which may be constructed of earthenware, or of any other suitable material, and which consists of a cylindrical tube, B, one end of which is enlarged inthe usual manner, as at O, for the reception of the end of the next adjoining section. The enlarged end or collar C is provided on its inner side with an annular groove,l D, corresponding Vwith an annular groove, E, formed upon the outside of the small end of the cylindrical portion B of the tube. The inner side of the said small end is beveled, as at F, to correspond with a beveled annular projection, G, formed at the other end of the tube within the collar O.
H designates a metallic cap, which is fitted (No model.)
over collar C of the top pipe, and which serves to connect thereto a nipple-joint, I, which forms the pnmp-connection. f
The operation and advantages of this invention will be readily understood from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings hereto annexed.
It should be noted that the interior diamethe exterior diameter of the small end of the pipe. Owing to this construction, the pipes are easily set in position, and guided to proper position by the beveled projection G, entering and engaging the bevel F, as clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. In this manner a smooth an'd tight joint is formed, which is .fills the grooves `D and E, thus serving not only to form a waterproof connection, but also to bind the pipes together very securely.
My improved well-pump tubing is simple in construction and inexpensive, and the improvements described are capable of being successfully applied to tubing of small diameter, thus enabling me to effect a considerable saving in the expense of boring.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- 1. As an improvement in well-pump tubing, a tube-section having at one -end an interiorly-grooved collar, and at the other end an exterior annular groove corresponding with the groove in the said collar, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. As an improvement in well-pump tubing, a tube-section having at one end a beveled projection surrounded by an enlargement or collar, and having `its other end interiorly beveled to correspond with the said beveled projection, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. As an improvement in well-pump tubing, a tube-section interiorly beveled and exteriorly grooved at one end, and having its other end provided with a beveled projection surrounded by an interiorly-grooved collar or enlargement, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
