No. 234,166 1 Claim. (Cl. 156'72) This application relates to gift wrapped packages and particularly to combinations of packages and means for ornamenting and protecting such packages.

FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a package to which is affixed a means for ornamenting and protecting it, the same comprising a bundle of sheets.

As stated above, the drawings illustrate one embodiment of the invention. In this embodiment, as disclosed in such drawings, there is included in combination a gift wrapped package illustrated more or less diagrammatically at 10 together with means also illustrated diagrammatically at 11 for ornamenting and protecting it. Such means comprises a bundle 21 of alined thin paper rectangular sheets, adhesively secured in a thicker tear oif pad by an adhesive backing 22 so that one or more sheets may be removed from a pad. The sheets are alined as shown in FIGS. 4 and 5 to form the pad and each is of thin paper. Each sheet has a small portion of its length unslitted and the major portion slitted to be fringed with the mass or fluff of fringes being referenced 25 where a bundle of individual fringed sheets removed from a pad is put together so that their fringes form the mass or fluff 25.

In use, a bundle of as many sheets as desired is removed from a pad of such sheets and is laid down on the package as shown in FIG. 3 with the unslitted parts of the sheets centered on the package and this part of the bundle is adhesively secured to the package then the nited States atent fluif or mass 25 is bent back over the unslitted parts 21 to overlie these unslitted pants and with the mass fiufied, as in FIG. 3, to form a spongy, fiuffy mass 25 centered on and overlying and concealing the unslitted parts 21 and in surface contact with the package as shown best in FIGS. 1 and 2. A plastic adhesive tape 26 may be used to hold down such a pad of sheets, such as shown for the pair of oppositely arranged pads 21 of FIG. 6; the latter form comprising two separately applied, and subsequently applied, oppositely arranged pads, which are separately fiufled towards the center to form the construction shown in FIGS. 6 and 7.

In the final form, the package, when viewed, shows nothing more than the package itself plus a fluffy mass resting on and in surface contact with the package to ornament it and protect it and with the flulfy mass centered on and overlying and thus concealing the unslitted parts which are themselves adhesively secured in a bundle to the package and then concealed by the fiuify mass 25.

Such fluffy mass 25 which may be of any desired color, thus ornaments and protects the package as well as concealing the unslitted parts of the bundle of sheets from which the fiuffy mass is formed and by means of which the flufiy mass is secured to the package.

Now having described the invention herein disclosed, reference should be had to the claim which follows.

I claim:

A method for forming a rosette from a thick supply pad of a large number of alined thin tissue paper oblong sheets, with such pad having more than half its length longitudinally slitted with many closely spaced slits to be fringed, and the remainder of the pad being unslitted; said method comprising:

(a) splitting the thick supply pad into two thinner pads, each of a desired thickness having a desired number of sheets;

(b) adhesively securing first one of the two unslitted parts to a surface, and then adhe'sively securing the second unslitted part on top of and to the first; with the two unslitted parts alined and the two slitted parts oppositely extending;

(c) bending the two slitted parts over the unslitted parts to overlie them; with one overlying the other;

(d) flulfing the two slitted parts, one over the other.
