Description

1965 MANYOSHI HlDAKA VERTICAL ADJUSTMENT DEVICE FOR BURNERS OF GAS-COOKERS Filed Feb. 20, 1962 United States Patent 3,169,573 VERTICAL ADEUSTR BJNT DEVICE 50R BURNERS 6F GAS-COOKERS Manyoshi Hidalta, 3678 Z-chome, Minami-cho, Nerima-ku, Tokyo-to, Japan Filed Feb. 2% 1962, Ser. No. 174,537 1 Claim. ((1. 158117) The present invention relates to an improved vertical adjustment device for burners of gas-cookers, in which the gas burner is adapted to be vertically adjusted in position in interlocked action with the opening operation of the cock for the gas inlet tube so that the flame extremities, the combustion temperature of which is the highest, may constantly and automatically strike the surface to be heated, and the distance of this surface from the burner may be corrected as to meet the possible particular change in pressure in a local or time-table gas supply program.
In the conventional gas-cookers, it has been proposed to adjust beforehand the distance of the bottom of the pan or pot from the burner or to adjust the burner vertically in its position, manually, in accordance with the flame as this is developed in combustion. However, these gas-cookers are very inconvenient, because adjustment of the burners cannot be automatically and effec tively attained.
Furthermore, the conventional manual vertical adjustment device for the burner is based on such mechanism as threads, cogwheels, etc. Moreover, this device necessitates a mechanism for stopping the burner at a predetermined position. i 7
Accordingly, an object of this invention is to provide a vertical adjustment device, wherein the flame extremity where thercombustion temperature is the highest is always, automatically brought in contact with the surface to be heated. This object has been attained by providing a device for carrying out vertical movement of the burner in a state of interlocking with the opening operation of the cock for the gas inlet tube, proportional to the size of opening of the said cock and a mechanism for correcting the said vertical movement in response to variations in the gas pressure.
Another object of this invention is to provide a vertical inclined with the rotation of thesaid conical cam so as to make the burner move very smoothly upward or downward.
The mannerin which the foregoing as well as other objects and advantages of the present inventionmay best be achieved will be understood more fully from consideration of the following description, taken in connection with 3,169,573 Patented Feb. 16, 1965 ice , pivotally supported on supports 4, with its one end being the accompanying drawing, in which the same or equivalent numbers are designated by the same numerals and references, and in which: V I
FlG. 1 is a full perspective view bf a preferred embodiment of the present invention;
FIG. 2 is a partial longitudinal view, in section, of the burner mounting pat of the embodiment of FIG. 1;.
FIG; 3 is a schematic diagram illustrating the relationof the embodiment .of FIG. I; and, i
V be movable up and down; an equilibrium plate 3 is provided with a weight 5 and the other carrying the burner 1; and guide pieces 6 are associated with the sides of the burner 1, projections 7'of the burner 1 being fitted in guide slots of said guide pieces 6 whereby the burner 1 is made to slide up and down freely along the slots by means of a ring 8 provided on one end of balance plate 3.
An eccentric conical cm 9 is provided with an axle lever ltl which passes eccentrically through the cam 9 so that the cam rotates with the axle lever 10 and is slidable in the direction of this lever, said lever 14 being directly connected to a cock 11. p 7
A screw lever 12 is rotatably mounted in supports 13. The part of this screw lever mounted in the supports is threaded and engages a correspondingly threaded shaft of a movable piece 14. Piece 14 has an end which engages with a circular slot 9a on cam 9 so that the cam is made to move along lever 1G by the forward or backward movement of piece 14. As can more clearly be seen in PEG. 3, at least a portion of lever 10 within cam 9 is of rectangular shape and at least a portion of the corresponding aperture in cam 9 is also of rectangular cross-section. Cam 9 is therefore supported on lever 1:? so that cam 9 can be moved along lever 10 and can be rotated together with lever 10.
The eccentric conical cam 9 is disposed over the balance plate 3 at a position between the supports 4 and the weight 5 so that the rotational moment of the part of the balance plate 3 on the side of the weight 5 is slightly smaller than that on the side of the burner 1, whereby the eccentric conical cam 9 is made to be always in contact with the screw projection 15 on the balance plate 3, with the effect that the balance plate 3 is held at its stop position, and can be slightly inclined either leftward or rightward by the rotation of the cam 9, thus causing automatic up and down movement of the burner 1 with the rotation of the cock 11.
According to the above-described construction, when a gas is supplied into the burner 1 through an air mixer cylinder 2 from the gas inlet tube 16 by the rightward turning of the cock 11, the eccentric conical earn 9 rotates rightward while sliding at its periphery on the screw projection 15, and the part of the balance plate 3 on the side of the weight 5 is made to ascend, thus causing the burner l to descend.
The extent of descent of burner 1 increases in proportion to the extent of opening of the cock Hand reaches the maximum when the cock 11 is opened to its full extent. Accordingly, irrespective of the extent of opening of the cock H, the flame extremity of the burner 1 is brought in contact with the surface tobe heated.
The length of the flame depends upon the gas pressure .in the gas supply. It is necessary, therefore, to'correct the distance between the burner l and the surface tobe V heated in order to realize the object of this invention.
variation ofthe inclined or balanced position. Thus,1the
burner 1 is corrected up or down so that the end of the heme may be brought into contact with the surface to I be heated;
Although there is a gap at the fitting position between the burner 1 andthe air mixer cylinder 2, gas does not escape from said gap because the internal diameter of the upper part of the said cylinder 2 is reduced, and; said upper part is tapered. Rather said gap causes inflow of 1 the ambient air. j V i As described above, with the present invention, the opening operation of the cock is interlocked with the descent of the burner 1 in proportion to the extent of opening of the cock so that the extreme tip of the flame is brought in contact withthe surface to be heated. Accordingly, the present invention has a high thermal efficiency and permits economical use of fuels.
The present invention may be used ideally in all cases, since the distance of the burner and the surface to be heated may be corrected to be appropriate to the length of the flame by purposely operating the vertical correction device, even if the supply pressure were to be altered locally or by timetable.
In embodying this invention, it is possible to reduce the friction between the eccentric conical cam 9 and the projection 15 by adjusting the weight of the weight and reducing the difference between the rightside-and leftside rotational moments of the balance plate 3, whereby it is made possible to carry out opening operation of the cock 11 almost without resistance. As a whole, the device of this invention is very simple in its construction and sure in its action.
Although this invention has been described with respect to a few'particular embodiments thereof, it is not to be so limited as changes and modifications may be made therein which are within the full intended scope of the invention, as defined by the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
A vertical adjustment device for burners of gas stoves of the type wherein Said burners are fed by an inlet tube controlled 'by a gas cock comprising in combination;
