UNITED Sramns J. FRANKLIN STUGKERT, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
SUPPORT FOR GUTTERS OFSKYLIGHTS, ROOFS, VAULTS, 800.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 316,413, dated April 21,1885.
Application filed October 8, 1884.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J. FRANKLIN STUOKERT, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Supports for Gutters of Skylights, Roofs, Vaults, &c.,which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a side sectional View of my improvement, taken on line 00 m, Fig. 4. Figs. 2 and 3 are similar views showing modifications of means of attachment of the bearing to the roof, also showing different forms of slides and gutters. Figs. 4, 5, and 6 are plan views of the tops of roofs shownin sidesection in Figs. 1, 2, and 3, respectively. Figs. 7, 8, and 9 are views at right angles to those shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3, respectively.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
The object of my invention is to provide a new method of and means for securing to shy lights, roofs, vaults, and other structures the gutters or drains, so that the leakage between the parts of the roof, and also the condensed vapor on the under side thereof, may be carried off as desired.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a portable bearing or dripping-piece for the plates B, of glass or other material, to rest on, and is made of any hard substance and of any suitable shape and size, and may be continuone, as shown in Fig. 1, or detached, as shown in Fig. 2. To its lower part is attached, by means of slide 0, the gutter D.
The slide 0 may be a separate piece from the bearing, or it may be integral therewith, and consists of a main part, c, havingad0wnward slope from the outer part to the base of the bearing, and arms 6 bent either at aright angle or inwardly, so as to embrace the outer sides of the gutter. If bent at a right angle, a screw or other fastening is employed to attach the gutter thereto. The arms may also be bent outwardly if the form of gutter is used as shown in Fig. 3, where the bent arms are placed inside of the sides of the gutter, said arms being secured to the bearing A by abolt having a washer, f, between the arms and the bearing.
(No model.)
The gutter D may be of any proper shape, three different forms of which are shown in the drawings, and is lined with a thin piece of non-corrosive metal, Esuch as lead-to prevent the action of acids thereon.
To the top of the bearing A, Figs. 1 and 2, is firmly secured a bent wire or staple, F, through which a pin, a, is inserted, having its ends resting upon the plates B.
A coveringbar, G, of either metal or wood, may be employed if desired, butis of little importance, as the joints are so narrow that they may more advantageously be filled with putty or cement.
In the drawings, Fig. 3, a screw, 0, and nut d are shown as a means for securing the bearing to the plates forming the roof. By this means of attachment the drip from the upper side and the condensed vapor 0n the under side of the roofare conducted by the drippingpiece or bearing into the gutter.
Having thus described my invent-ion,what I claim as new, and desired to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A bearing, in combination with a gutter, plates forming a roof, and means for connecting said plates to said bearing, the said bearing being pendent from said plates and not sustaining the said roof, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A hearing having the adjacent edges of two contiguous plates ofaroofin contact therewith, in combination with means for binding said plates to said bearing, a gutter,a slide having arms sustaining said gutter, the said bearing being pendent from said plates, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. The bearing A, in combination with slide G, gutter D, and plate B, substantially as described.
4. The combination of bearing A withslide G, gutter D, plates B, and covering-bar G, sub stantially as described.
5. The combination of bearing Awith plates B, means for attaching said bearing A to plates B, slide 0, and gutter D, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
