UNITED STATES PATENT Enron@ EDWARD BURTON HAYNES, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, ASSIGNOR TO ARCHIBALD C. HAYNES, OF SAME PLACE.
PIANO-STOOL.
SPECIFICATQN forming part of Letters Patent No. 315,779, dated April. 14, 1885.
(No model.)
To all whom it riz/ay concern.-
Be it known that I, E. BURTON HAYNEs, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of' Baltimore, State of Maryland, haveinvented a new and useful Improvement in Piano-Stools, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly broken away, ot a piano-stool embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a front vienr thereof. Fig. 3 is a top or plan view thereof, partly broken away.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures. My invention consists of novel features in a piano-stool, as follows: an adjustable back, a removable back, a seat adjustable in height, and a foot-rest adjustable vertically and to and from the instrument.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the seat of the piano-stool, and B the stem depending therefrom; C, the base on which said stem is sustained; D, the foot-rest, and E the back thereof. On the sides of the seatframe are longitudinally-entending plates F, in which are T-shaped grooves a, to receive tongues b, projecting inwardly from the sides of plates G, which are secured to the frame of the back E. In order to connect the said plates G with the plates F, I emplo'y bolts H, whose .heads are tted in the heads of the grooves a., and whose Shanks pass through the tongues b and platesG, the ends of the Shanks being provided with nuts J for tightening purposes. It will be seen that by loosening the retains the part in adjusted position.
nuts J the back may be moved in and out,and thus adjusted to the requirements of the occupant of the seat.
In order to adjust the height ofthe seat, the 4o stem B is formed with a series of openings or notches, c, to receive the point of a screw, K,
'which is passed through the base, so that when the stem is raised or lowered, and the seat accordingly adjusted in height, the screw The foot-rests D are provided with sockets D', through which are passed the lower and vertical limbs of L-shaped arms L, the upper and horizontal limbs thereof being fitted in sockets 5o L',secured to the under side of the seat-frame,
by which provision said arms, and consequently the foot-rest, may be moved nearer to or farther from the instrument, or toward and from the front of the seat, said rest being also vertically adjustable relatively to the requirements of the occupant of the seat, the several parts being held in their adjusted positions by set-screws.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secureby Letters Patent, is-
A stool having the seat A, provided with sockets L', in combination with the angularshape'd arms L, and the adjustable foot-rest 65 D, having sockets D', the vertical limbs of said arms passing through said sockets D', substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
EDVARD BURTON HAYNES.
