SPRING HANGER.-
N0. 315,644. Patented Apr. 14, 1885.
faz/f/yfzr j MM ' JAZ -nay WIfiAfLESES UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE-O JACOB ANSEL MACK AND CHRISTIAN HANSON, OF MADISON, WISCONSIN.
SPRING-HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 315,644, dated April 14, 1885.
Application filed November 30, 1883. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, J AOOB A. MACK and ()nnrsrmn HANSON, citizens of the United States, residing at Madison, in the State of W'isconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring-Hangers, of which the following is a specification, to wit:
This invention relates to an improvement in hangers for vehicle-springs; and it con sists in certain peculiarities of construction, substantially as will be hereinafter more fully set forth. V
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which our invention appertains to make and use the same, we will now proceed to describe its construction, referring to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a bottom perspective view of our hanger applied to part of the frame of the vehicle'body, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same. i
A represents one of the cross-bars forming the supportingframe of a vehicle-body, to the under side of which is secured a spring-hanger, B, intended to take one end of a platformspring. This hanger B consists of a main plate, 21, having ears b b formed on each side, which are bent up and clasp the side of the bar A, and through which is passed a bolt, 0, as shown. This plate is formed also with a rear extension or lug, 6 through which and also the main body of the plate are passed bolts a of, the latter of which serves also to secure in place the step-plate C on top of the cross-bar. From the plate I) extend down two arms, D D, which are bent toward each other, and between their lower ends is pivoted by a bolt, (1, a yoke, D, which stands within the arms B, and between the arms of this yoke the eye in the end of the spring is secured by a bolt, d.
The device described is a firm and simple means of securing the springs of a platformvehicle, and gives the spring ample play in all its motions when in use, and the plate 12, being bolted to the cross-bar in both directions, is very strongly held, and not liable to give way under any sudden strain.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a hanger for platform-springs, the plate 1), formed with ears I), clasping the side of the D, in combination with the yoke D, hinged between the lower ends of said arms, and provided with the bolt (1, all constructed and arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
In testimony whereof we affix oursignatures in presence of two witnesses.
JACOB ANSEL MACK. CHRISTIAN HANSON.
