CLOTHES LINE FASTENBR. No. 315,312. Patented A rpv, 1885 Zak. 5
INVENTOR: 3
ATTORNEYS.
UNITED, STATES PATENT OF ICE.
THOMAS MCCOY, OF LAWVRENGE KANSAS.
CLOTHES-'LIN'EFASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 315,312, date d'April 7, 1885.
Application filed November 20, 1883. (No model.)
ener formed of a pivoted lever with a fork at.
its upper end and a cross-piece at its lower end, which lever is combined with another pivoted lever having a cross-piece at its upper end, between which cross'pieces the rope is clamped after having been passed over the fork on the upper end of the lever.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming apart of. this specification,
in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a face view of my improved clothes-line holder. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of the same on the line :0 m, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a rear View of the same.
Between the two jaws A, formed on a forked plate, B, a lever, G, is pivoted, which is provided at its upper end with a fork, D, and its lower end with a cross-piece, E, the said lever being pivoted; at about onethird of its length from the lower end, and being bent outward from the pivot toward both ends. A bearing-plate, K, on which the pivot of the lever G can turn, is held under the same and under the plate B, as shown. On the lower part of the plate B two downwardlyprojecting forkprongs, F, are formed, and restagainst the wall, standard,-&c., to which the plate B is fastened, between which prongs a lever, G, is pivoted, which is provided at its pivoted upper end with an outwardlyprojecting crosspiece, H. The lever G is provided with a straight part, H, adapted to rest on a plate, J, held between the prongs F. When the lever G hangs down, the free edge of the crosspiece will be adjoining the cross-piece E.
The'rope is adjusted in the following manner: The free end of the'rope Lis passed over the fork D from the front toward the rear side,
then over the front of the lever O and under the cross-piece E, the lever G beingraised.
The rope is then drawn taut, and the lever G is swung down, as shown, thereby clamping the rope between the cross-pieces E and H,
whereby the rope will be held securely. 1f
the rope is to be slackened, the lever G is. swung upward, thus permitting the rope to.
be drawn from between the cross-pieces E and H. As the upper arm of the lever is longer, p
than the lower arm, the arm-piece E at the lower end oftheleverOwillbe pressed against the rope K with great force, and thus the rope will be clamped securely between the crosspieces E and H, the lever G bearing by its i.
straight part H upon the plate J.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- 1. A clothes-line or rope holder made substantially as herein shown and described, and consisting of a pivoted lever provided atthe upper end with a fork or loop, through which the rope can be passed, and at its lower end with a cross-piece, combined with a lever provided at its upper end with a cross-piece, between which two cross-pieces the rope is jammed or clamped, and an attaching-plate, as set forth.
2. In arope-holder,tl1e combination, with the plate B, of the lever 0, provided at its upper 'end with a fork, D, and at itslower endwitll a cross-piece, E, which lever is pivoted on the plate B near the lower end of the said lever, and of the lever G, pivoted to the plate B,and provided at its upper end with a cross-piece, H, substantially as herein shown and described.
