United States Patent 3,151,337 TGILE'I TANK WATER VALVE John A. Deniz, 87243 Auyong Homestead Road, Nanakuli, Oahu, Hawaii Filed Aug. 29, 1963, Ser. No. 305,356 6 Claims. (Cl. 4-34) This invention relates to tank valves and more particularly to a double valve for toilet tanks.
It is a primary object of the present invention to provide toilet tank water valves which, when necessary, will flush only one half of the tank of water, thus preventing waste of water.
Another object of the present invention is to provide water valves for toilet tanks which will release all of the water contained within the tank when two handles are rotated.
A further object of the present invention is to provide toilet tank water valves which may be installed easily by the layman and will require a minimum of effort to operate.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a toilet tank water valve bearing the above objects in mind which is of simple construction, has a minimum number of parts, is inexpensive to manufacture and efiicient in operation and use.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a front view of the present invention shown in operative use;
FIGURE 2 is a side elevational view of the wire cage enclosure shown removed from the invention;
FIGURE 3 is a top plan view of FIGURE 2.
Referring now more in detail to the drawing, a toilet tank water valve made in accordance with the present invention is shown to include a circular wire cage 12 having a pair of parallel, spaced apart clamps 14 and 14a. Clamps 14 and 14a are fixedly secured externally to cage 12 and provide a means for supporting cage 12. A vertical tube 16 is received within clamps 14 and 14a and a pair of threaded bolts 18 are received through clamp 14:: and threadingly receive a pair of nuts 20, thus securing cage 12 to tube 16. The lower end of tube 16 is fixedly secured to one side of plate 22, and plate 22. is provided with a concave valve seat 24 which intersects outlet opening 25. An elongated, plastic valve 26 seats upon valve seat 24 and is provided with a conical valve seat 28 in its upper extremity which receives a plastic valve 30. A pair of cross braces 32 are fixedly secured to the outer periphery of sleeve 34 which provides guide means for rod 36. Rod 36 is freely and slidably received within sleeve 34 and is fixedly secured to a rubber disc 38 which is springingly urged upwardly against the bottom of seat 28, by a coil spring 40. Coil spring 40 is freely and slidably received over the upper extremity of rod 36 and abuts with the bottom of disc 38 at one end and abuts with the upper extremity of sleeve 34 at the other end. A rod 42 is fixedly secured to the external surface of the upper extremity of valve 26 and is provided with an eye 44 which receives a chain 46. The other end of chain 46 is secured to the end of an elongated arm 48 which provides lip means for valve 26. An external handle 50 is secured to the other end of arm 48 and provides handle grip means for the operation of valve 26. Rod 42 is freely and slidably received within an elongated opening 52 in wire cage 12. Valve 26 is freely and slidably received within cage 12 and thus valve 26 remains in alignment with valve seat 24. A rod 54 is fixedly secured to the top of valve 30 and is provided with a ball stop 56 on its upper extremity. Rod 54 is freely and slid- 3,153,337 Patented Qctfi, F964 ably received within a sleeve 58 and ball stop 56 on the end of rod 54 prevents valve 30 from being released from within sleeve 58. A curved rod 60 is fixedly secured to the outer periphery of sleeve 58 and is fixedly secured at its other end to a pin 62 projecting from an elongated rod 64 which is provided with an external handle 66 which provides a means for lifting valve 30 from seat 28.
In operation, when the user wishes to use only half of the water contained in the toilet tank, he grasps the handle 66 and pivots it upwardly which, through its respective linkage, urges valve 30 upwardly and away from valve seat 28. Disc 38 prevents the surging of air in valve 3t) and seat 28. When valve 39 is lifted, water passes through and into valve 26 and out through opening 25.
When the user wishes to release all of the water contained in the tank, he pivots handle 59 upwardly which, by means of arm 48, chain 46, and rod 42 will lift valve 26 from its seat 24, and thus all of the water contained within the tank is released through opening 25.
It will be noted that if both of the handles 50 and 66 are moved simultaneously, all of the water contained within the tank is released through opening 25.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.
What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. A toilet tank water saving device comprising, in combination, a wire mesh cage providing sliding encasement of a pair of plastic valves, a pair of circular clamps carried by said cage providing support means for said cage to a vertical tube, a pair of cross braces carried within said cage providing guide and support means for a rubber disc, a coil spring carried within said cage pro viding a means for urging said disc upwardly, a chain, carried within the toilet tank providing a means for securing one of said valves to a rod and handle for operating the lower valve.
2. The combination according to claim 1 wherein said cage is circular in configuration and is suspended above a lower valve seat in the base of said tank and said clamps secured to said cage receive a tube which is secured to the base of said tank and the upper clamp secured to said tube in said cage receives a pair of bolts which threadingly receive a pair of nuts, thus securing said cage vertical to and above said base of said tank.
3. The combination according to claim 2 wherein an elongated plastic valve is received upon said seat in said base of said tank and said elongated valve provides release means for all of the water contained within said tank when said handle secured to said rod that is secured to said chain is operated and the lower end of said valve is semicircular in configuration and receives said valve seat which is concave for mating engagement with said valve, and a rod secured externally to the upper extremity of said elongated valve is slidably received within an elongated slot within said cage and said elongated valve is slidably received within said cage.

The combination according to claim 3 wherein said chain is received through the eye of said rod secured to the upper extremity of said elongated valve and the other end of said chain is secured to an elongated rod and air leakage is prevented by means of a circular rubber disc, said disc being secured to a vertical rod which is received within a sleeve centrally in alignment with said elongated valve, and said disc is urged upwardly against a conical valve seat in the upper extremity of said elongated valve by means of a coil spring urging downwardly upon said sleeve secured to said braces.
5. The combination according to claim 4 wherein said conical valve seat in the extremity of said elongated valve receives a comically configurated plastic valve, andtlle conical upper extremity of said valve is provided with a rod which has a ball stop on the end, thus preventing said valve from being released from Within a sleeve and said sleeve is secured'by rod means to a short arm having an extending pin and a plurality of openings in said short arm provide adjustment means for said valve having an upper extremity of conical configuration.
6. The combination according to claim 5 wherein said short arm is secured to a handle which provides hand 10 3,041,630
4 grip means for'operating said upper valve and said upper valve provides a means for releasing a portion of the Water contained Within said toilet tank.

Claims (1)
1. A TOILET TANK WATER SAVING DEVICE COMPRISING, IN COMBINATION, A WIRE MESH CAGE PROVIDING SLIDING ENCASEMENT OF A PAIR OF PLASTIC VALVES, A PAIR OF CIRCULAR CLAMPS CARRIED BY SAID CAGE PROVIDING SUPPORT MEANS FOR SAID CAGE TO A VERTICAL TUBE, A PAIR OF CROSS BRACES CARRIED WITHIN SAID CAGE PROVIDING GUIDE AND SUPPORT MEANS FOR A RUBBER DISC, A COIL SPRING CARRIED WITHIN SAID CAGE PROVIDING A MEANS FOR URGIING SAID DISC UPWARDLY, A CHAIN, CARRIED WITHIN THE TOILET TANK PROVIDING A MEANS FOR SECURING ONE OF SAID VALVES TO A ROD AND HANDLE FOR OPERATING THE LOWER VALVE.
