UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HUGH REA, OF VILLAGE GREEN, PENNSYLVANIA.
HORSE-COVER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 314,718, dated March 31, 1885.
Application filed January 17, 1885. (N0 model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HUGH REA, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Village Green, in the county of Delaware and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horse-Covers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to an improvement in horse-covers; and it consists in a cover having the peculiar conformation shown, to which are secured in front buckle -straps and in rear straps and snap-hooks, the former being designed for buckling together the cover under the horses neck, and the latter. for attaching the cover to the breech-rings or breech-straps; and it also consists in the peculiar construction, combination, and arrangement of the parts, substantially as hereinafter more fully shown and described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the cover as attached to the animal. Fig. 2 is a plan view of my invention, and Fig. 3 is a detail view thereof.
In constructing my horse-cover I form in the cover A the neck-recess B, and secure to ,the laps B by ordinary means the buckle strap 0, holding the buckle O and the coincident buckle -strap These straps are buckled under the horses neck. The straps D, to which the snap-hooks E are sewed at E, are riveted to the cover on its inner side, the head of the rivet F being enlarged upon a metallic washer, F, on the inside of the cover, and upon a leather washer, G, upon the outside of the cover, which prevents the blanket being torn where thus secured. The snaphook E, having the strap-eye H and the curved fixed jaw I, is also provided with jaw J, pivoted in the slot is, and actuated by the coiled spring L, and in attaching the cover the snap-hooks are caught in the rings of the breech-straps, as aforesaid. Thus constructed, a cover is produced at little cost which cannot be accidentally dislodged from the back of the horse.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A horsecover having a strap, D, secured to the under side of cover A, upon each side, by rivets and washers, and having snap-hook E, designed for attaching the cover to the breech -strap or its rings, substantially as shown and described.
2. A horse-cover having straps and snaphooks for attachment to the breech-straps, secured in the manner as described, in combination with the strap 0, having buckle O and strap 0 substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
