WITNESSES i INVENTOR BY wgfgf ATTORNEY AMBROSE PLAMONDON, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
GEAR-WHEEL.
' SIPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent' No. 314,472, dated March 24, 1885.
Application lili d October-12,1883. (X0 model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, AivrBRosE PLAMoNDo-N, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State ot' Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in GearVhecls, of
which the following is a specitication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to an improvement in gear-wheels. The object it has in View is to lessen the wear on such wheels; and to that end theinvention consists of the noveldevices and combination of devices, as will be described and claimed.
Reference will be made to the accompany ing drawings, in which Figure l is a vertical section, and Fig. 2 a plan of the wheel constructed according to the invention.
Like letters referto like parts in each view.
A represents the hub of a gear-wheelcast with a suitable flange, a, as shown in Fig. l.
B represents a plate or disk formed on its outer edge with a downwardly-sloping liange, b, upon which are formed the teeth c. The
central opening with which the plate B is pro- I vided, and th rough which the hub Ais passed, is of such a size with respect to said hub that a small space is left between the edges thereof and the hub, asimilar space being left between the inner edge of flange b of said plate and the outer edge of flange cot' the hub, the parts being thus arranged to permit of a certain amount of elasticity, as will be understood.
Between the plate B and flange a of hub A a series of layers of paper, C, are placed, said paper iirst being subjected to the ordinary process of preparation, and the parts are then iirmly held together by bolts d, the paper being arranged to receive all the pressure.
As a new article `of manufacture, a gearwheel consisting of a hub, A, formed integral with aplate orilange, a, and aplate, B, provided with a central opening, and upon its outer edge with a toothed flange, b, the parts being so arranged and the central opening of plate B of such size that there will be a space left between iianges a b and between plate B and hub A, and the spacebetween plate B and flange a heilig filled with elastic material C, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
AMBROSE PLAMONDON.
